There's a very small crowd of Sydney support coming over for the first match, most of them if not all have not made the trek before.

The usual suspects & some will be over for the game in Dec.

Can't really take the foxsports article linked on the homepage seriously.

Sure it quoted Dura, but if there's no Threak it's shoddy journalism as far as I'm concerned.

I know we are still a few weeks away, but I'm starting to really ponder the lineup for this first game.

I've got a feeling that Ifill wont be fit, and its sounding like Sanchez wont be either.

So based on those two both not being available, I think we will see something like this:

                       Moss
Bertos Sigmund Durante Lochhead
                Lia         Muscat
 Brockie         Smith            Totori
                  Huysegems

If either Sanchez or Ifill are fit, you would swap out Lia and push Smith back deeper. But otherwise theres not really any other guys more worthy of starting for me. If both are fit then I would expect to see Totori slip to the bench, but I doubt Sanchez is gonna be fit

Sanchez can only just walk, so wouldn't count on him for a while.

This is going to be a really interesting match attendance wise. A good turn out matched by a good home result will really help it getting the new fans back in for the next match and keep the turnstiles turning.

Hoping for 15,000.

If Ballack signs on to the A League i can see him being an even bigger draw card. Heskey not so much... like him as a player (think he's unfairly targeted - sets up alot of good attacks) but lacks the star power of the other two.

How do I redeem my free ticket offer with the Season Ticket?

You will be able to request your free ticket from Monday 13 August. You will get a ticket of an equivalent category to the season ticket purchased e.g. a Silver Adult season adult ticket qualifies for a Silver Adult match day ticket.

The following is the free match day ticket offer by season ticket option:

  • One adult match day ticket per adult season ticket;
  • One child match day ticket per child season ticket;
  • One adult and one child ticket per Family season ticket and1 Adult/2 Child season ticket.

Note: Concession season tickets, the Flexi Six Pack and the Nova Energy offer does not qualify for the free ticket option.

Tickets must be used within the first three home games of the season.

When requesting your free seat we will endeavour to allocate the closest seat to the member as possible.

There are 3 ways of redeeming your ticket (for all options you will need your membership card at hand)

  1. Call Phoenix Line 04 384 2457 and an ezy ticket will be sent to you
  2. Visit the Michael Fowler Centre and collect your free ticket
  3. Collect your ticket on match day at the box office

Good grief - those things are horrific, granted I wasn't in a Fever Zone type area for the game in CHC on Sunday rather was with my kids in the family area, but they did my head in.

Seriously they need to be banned, wait till all you guys experience them, I'm sure you'll feel the same...

They handed them out over the first three seasons or so.  We have experienced them - that is why they are un-opened.

You know nothing of these death sticks until you've been to a basketball or netball game played within an enclosed arena.

Also just found this on stuff: http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/7730910/Del-Piero-misses-out-on-trial-matches

"Alessandro Del Piero might have excited the masses upon his arrival but awkward reality is that the Italian star may go into the A-League season without playing a single trial game.

With just 10 days left before Sydney's first match, away to Wellington, there is concern Del Piero will be severely lacking match-fitness leading into the clash."

Went to the Breakers pre-season game 2 weeks ago and experienced them there, actually thought they were worse at the football. The people who promote them need to spend 90mins in amongst them!

Seems they played an interclub game instead and he set up a couple of goals...http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/7733345/Del-Piero-sets-up-two-goals-in-practice-game

Would be cool if the nix did an official pre-season 1st XI vs 2nd XI open to the public. A serious full intensity game.

The one thing that I wish I could see more of, is our young players up against A-League quality to see how they are going. But the preseason games are never in Welly for me to see so only see them against local sides. Would be cool way to end / begin the open day

Given his current level of fitness, what say he slides gracefully over the half way line and falls over his laces claiming a penalty from the half way line?

Give him no space, put him under the gun, take no prisoners!

Come on Phoenix!
