Vukovic was red-carded and as a result now automatically faces a suspension for Violent Conduct. The length of that suspension is at the FFA's discretion.

Griffiths received a yellow card for his "incident' An isolated  yellow card does result in a  suspension and the referee is deemed to have seen the incident during the game and dealt the appropriate sanction as he saw fit at the time. FFA statutes then prevented them taking any further action in that case. If the referee had taken no action, it may well have been that Griffiths could have been 'cited' after the game in much the same way that other players, e.g. Ross Aloisi, were during the season.

Which is why Griffiths didn't get suspended and Vukovic will

"The referee is deemed to have seen the incident " trouble is he never saw the incident. The linesman cocked - up and got duly dumped from the A-league and Griffiths carrys on his merry way. Further action should have been taken, so FFA should change the statutes for the good of the game.

Fair enough, maybe I should've written "was aware of the incident and dealt with it in accordance with his incompetent Assistant Referee's report". I agree that it's something that the FFA should be looking at.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

After seeing the "hand ball" replay Shields needs to get dropped to a learning grade, cos that was so blatent! he linesman saw it called it surely the ref has to go with what they say - and the o4ther linesman wouldn't have seen it cos his attention would have been focused on the other part of the game behind the ball.

just wondering what Jag, GingerEdjit and any other refs think about whether Shields 'should' have acted on the lino's call ?

It's the Ref's call, end of story. Anyone who's ever run a line has been over-ruled by a referee at some time. Even me!  He doesn't have to go with the Assistant. He obviously thought he was in a better position and over-ruled the Assistant. IMO, the other Assistant shouldn't even have been consulted, far too far away.
