Has anyone else noticed how similar the Wellington Lions new kit is to the Wellington Phoenix?
What's the deal with that?

Is it wrong for me to say I kind of like it ?

I wouldn't wear it, but I do quite like it.

Nah I quite like it too... Very smart.
I know we've been playing games but I haven't really looked at our new kit to be honest...
Is it any different?

Gutting... That sucks.

Nah, I think Reebok make all the kits and decide when to change them, I could be wrong though

A number of reasons.

1, Reebok are rubbish.
2, The FFA run the whole thing not the clubs.
3, All strips changed at the start of last season, there is sort of a gentlemans agreement not to change yearly and fleece supporters.

That rubbish... Hopefully things will change and eventually teams will have their own choice of brand/uniform provider...

Reebok agreement ends for next season, I'd expect big changes for the 2009 season, for the nix that is not the lions

Don't hold your breath.

The FFA like the revenue share opportunities and the control they have over one vendor.  There is a chance that the supplier will change but I can't see the clubs being allowed individual brands.

Also (pretty sure) it's five years so it would be the end of next season.

5 years? I thought I read that is was due to expire end of this season, and hasn't TP SAID that our home shirt will be changing for 2009?

I think you're correct Prof - I'm sure the Reebok deal finishes at the end of this season. The sooner the better so we can go for the black/gold stripes!
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

The Reebok deal was for 5 years, wasn't it? So that would mean it'd expire at the end of 2009/2010 season.
The home shirt may well change in 2009, but it would still be dictated by the FFA and Reebok templates. That's my understanding anyway.

Rbk has the deal for the first 5 years, this season coming up is year 4 - therefore there will be 1 more year of rbk after this one.

I would imagine though that it is likely that rbk will change the strips for all A-League clubs for the beginning of the 2009-2010 season, given they changed all the strips after the first 2 seasons, and they would want 1 last chance of making money.

WRU will say there was 21,000 as they count all stadium members that don't turn up. The Phoenix could do that as well. That could make the average crowd 25,000!

That crowd tonight looked smaller than the CCM match, but then again they do scatter around the ground rather than one side.

now now people it shouldn't be about the code. more about the city(provence) surely. the rugby fans could do with some lessons in how to support a team yes but as a welligtonian they are still our team

I am a season ticket holder for the Canes and the Lions as well.....but opted for a night on the couch with a few Guinness last night instead and gave my tickets to a workmate to take his son....

I would NEVER even contemplate doing that for a Phoenix game...!!!!

if done properly stribes are fantastic, but anyway to bring more yelow into the strip would be great

surely a closer look at the club logo would give a hint that black/yellow stripes may be a good prospect!!  I for one would welcome that!

Its not stripes persay but you guys must have noticed the walkwise people walking around Wellington, looking at their jackets that are yellow with a bit of black and silver on the front - IMO something along those lines would be a good playing strip.

Wonder if Canterbury NZ will be one of the kit sponsors to put a decent bid in for the A-League licences, assuming all kits are of the same brand again.  That's a couple years off of course.
