APFA kids attend NTC I think

This is great. Good to see WPX doing the sensible thing and partnering up with folks who have the infrastructure already in place. I didn't know this was anywhere near ready to go, but yay that it is.

Could do something similar with Ole perhaps?

Yes I imagine Ole would be next in line - do their kids go to FTC/NTC? Not sure how they'll go about things in Auckland.

APFA kids can go to NTC but have to go to TOL each time as they aren't being monitored regularly via FTCs.

APFA kids excluded from FTC intra-fed and inter-fed tourneys, eg National Age Group tourney at end of year.

The APFA does look impressive in terms of coaching and resources, plus the results the kids get academically is very high as well which I think is important.

APFA does offer scholarships to particularly talented players which is where I see the NIX coming in and paying some of the costs involved to move players down there.

Potentially APFA may also benefit financially should any players move on to the Nix and beyond through a percentage of transfer fees etc... not that this should factor into any decisions as it can not be effectively predicted.

Does this mean they will send players from other regions that they identify down there?  Or are they just trying to get dibs on players that this academy produces?

I think the plan will be to set up 'strategic alliances' with other academies in other regions - ole in wgtn, wynrs and a couple of schools perhaps in Auckland. That way 11-16 year olds can be identified around the country; with the best heading to wgtn at the right age for FSE - 16/17.

I think that is pretty accurate.

Its good to see / hear about an increased level of communication and talent spotting happening around the country. Hopefully this results in more players of potential getting noticed and more opportunities being provided.

How many academies are there now for footy compared to 10 years ago???

Never use to hear of them, and now they seem to be everywhere.

I think the latter two are National Training Centre, Federation Training Centre. Basically FTC is all the top kids in your region that train together during the week, although still play for their respective clubs, schools etc and then (If I'm correct) the top tier from each federation go onto NTC, which there are three of around NZ. Basically if you want to be in NZ U17s, you'd be an NTC regular.

Yep, Luis is right. TOL is Talent on Location. For players moving down from/up to NTC from FTC but i think players at private academies have to got to TOL to get to NTC (well at least in Mainland fed; not sure about other feds).

Just hoping we see other Youth Development Partners around the country announced soon. Looking like they will all be private providers though.

Most of the academy set-ups will have players in teams playing in Napier. So comes the (suspected) reason for a Nix game in Napier.

Nah, you're adding 2+2 and getting 900 there. The game in Napier is because it's a good idea to have a game there.

They don't need to take the entire team there to scout a few players at Napier U19s. They've been doing that for years.

This is a bit of a truism because NTC hosts over a hundred players nationally in each age group. So pretty much if you one day want to play ASB Premiership or Central League/Northern League you'd be an NTC kid, or thereabouts.

How many nix games were not on the same weekend either wgtn or away.  And who went.

Right, so they are moving the entire "Brother Loves Travelling Salvation Show" on the road to Napier to watch a couple of Acadamy kids, who they see on a very regular basis play a couple of games...... Yeahhhhh Nahhhhh!!!

Might help define a bit of affinity with the club though. These kids are from all over the Country and meeting with/seeing the Nix players and the game might just make them want to play for the organisation as their first aim instead of maybe buggering off to the US or elsewhere.

The APFA thing happened. Heard nothing about any other regional centres in other locations (unless Ole is already a de facto one)
Any update Blew on TW FSE?

Doyle was a defensive midfielder originally  but played a lot at center back I think

Did Tom Doyle suck noticeably compared to the other players, or may this be a "disciplinary" thing?

Pretty much. most a CM but has filled in at CB for Teedubs and Miramar.

Not really sure. I have not seen him play. Has he had disciplinary "issues"?

Think he may have been on the older side with Rowe - not eligible / good enough for under 20's.
From the limited amount I've seen of him, he probably wasnt going to step up to the A-league level - although you could say that about a few of the other remaining guys - however some have youth on their side and have shown improvement

Who do you rate their playwithfire?

Tom Doyle is older than the original FSE objective of players up to age of 20.

I assume you are asking which of the FSE kids I rate?
I havent seen much - a few games early on and then a couple at season's end (good way to judge improvement I guess)

Depends at what level I guess - at ASB Prem, most of them can do a job.

I thought Solomons improved quite a bit last year - initially thought he would have no chance at ASB Prem level.
Think Biss is okay but not as good as some seemed to think after his Nix debut.
Watson can definitely do a job for TeeDubs but think his size has a big part to play in where he has got.

I think Gulley, Rowe & Basalaj would be able to adjust to A-League with a bit of time - not saying they would be superstars though!

Yeah i probably agree with the last three
I'd like to see Ryan Thomas and Alex Rufer join the FSE. Maybe Ridenton but thats based on word of mouth as opposed to having seen him in action

What sources are actively/successfully feeding into FSE?

Private academies like Ole? Wynrs? APFA?

Or the NZF NTC programme? ASB Youth?

All of the above? Other?
