That will have been him up front then.  Perhaps Plan C?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Yeah, Dodd was pretty busy too when he came on in the 2nd. Didn't see all that much of Bertos, but I suppose it was just a training session really, and pretty early in the peice.

Funny as seeing Lia fire up on the dude who up-ended him. Guy got a "Stupid f*#king c**t!" and a slap on the head for his troubles...

Daniel Mcbreen

His previous clubs include Newcastle United Jets and Universitatea Craiova. He walked out on the club in 2004 after they refused to honour his contractual obligations.[1] He signed for Falkirk after receiving international clearance in September 2004.[2] He signed a new one-year deal with the club in June 2005.[3]

He signed for Sc**thorpe United on a two-year deal in August 2006.[4] At the end of the 200607 season McBreen was told by Sc**thorpe manager Nigel Adkins that he was free to look for a deal with another club, despite having a year remaining on his contract.[5] He joined York City on a month's loan, with the option of a possible extension, in October 2007.[6] He was recalled from his loan spell by Sc**thorpe on 5 November 2007 due to the departure of on-loan Millwall player Ben May.[7]

He joined St. Johnstone in January 2008 until at least the end of the season. It is a permanent deal not a loan, as previously thought.[8] On 20 April 2008, McBreen scored the opening goal in St. Johnstone's Scottish Cup semi-final against Rangers at Hampden Park, on his debut in the competition. He was released by the club at the end of the 200708 season.[9]

Bit hypocritical from Lia - he made some terrible two footed tackles last season..

Saw the game...my thoughts.

Durante and mcCain are quality signings...they look calm and asssured in defense...heaps of time on the ball which is always a sign of a good player. I was particularly impressed with McCain. Looks a good athlete with lots of pace. Is'nt afraid to come forward with the ball(almost scored from a run from his own box). The defense is going to be significantly better this year...what a relief!!!

Lie Lie Gao looks class. Great touches..shoots well with either foot. Not afraid to have a crack from outside the box(shaved the bar with a couple of cracking shots).

Dodd looked organised and composed as a defensive midfielder...did a lot of talking and distributed well.

Daniel and Lockhead were as good as ever and Coveny was full of running in the first half.

Leo looked a bit short of a run and poor old Tim Brown spent the whole game shuffling round the athletic track...poor guy still looks injured.

It is early days but I saw enough good signs to suggest we are going to be a real force this coming season. Still a bit light up front. Smeltz got a good goal but we still looked tentative at times.

Not to mention the karate kick in the head tackle against the under-20s in Masterton last year.

How'd Ferrante do ?
Interesting to see him as captain :o

I am so relieved that Ricki has shown faith in Ferrante. He always struck me as a classy player and is just the sort of man we need to supply our attacking players with quality ball. He's one of my first names on the team sheet :)

Yep Ferrante is a good player. Sure, he can't shoot for crap most of the time - but apart from that he's quality. I'll admit that I was on his back after a few terrible misses earlier in the season but I think he proved his worth.

i thought ferrante ran the show really well in the first half. looked really calm and composed and did a lot of talking. he seems to me like the most viable option for captain as he would seem to be the most likely one to get lots of game time

Yes it was. I was actually very disappointed with Lia, the tackle was hard and late, especially for a pre-season game, but his reaction was epitome of petulence.

He also gave a big expletive-filled mouthful to one of the young lads who was playing left-back for the selection XI in the first-half after he accidently clipped Lia on the calf while trying to play the ball. Certainly doesn't strike me as the kind of guy I'd wanna have a beer with. Although admittedly, as long as he does the job on the field, that's all it matters, doesn't really matter if he a complete t**ser.el grapadura2008-05-26 20:02:04

i haven't met vinnie lia, El grap, but on the three times i've seen him at training he seemed like a bit of a character - good sense of humour and keen, I wouldn't judge him on his reaction to one tackle

I'd still have a beer with him as you put it

- as for his own tackling last season - as  noted by someone else - he led a charmed life at times (i expected to see the ref reach for a red card at least once)

Well, if it was just for the reaction over Woody's tackle I'd have been over it, but there was no need to yell at the young lad when he accidentally clipped on the back of the calf. That was very poor imo.

hopefully he shook hands with the youngster and had a decent word after the game

Definitely Woody then

It was Mikey Halikias's white boot that got launched over the fence.  That was  amusing...he looked absolutely astounded that it had actually happened and, surprisingly, didn't try and get two feet in to say thanks afterwards.

Maybe Lia has been taking Red Mist lessons from Feverish.

I think he has surpassed the master on this occassion.
Lia seems like a top bloke from the times that I have met him -so just cos he red mists during a competitive game - doesnt mean he isnt a good geezer

Read in Dompost this morning that Daniel McBreen (ex St Johnston) was playing in the game. He is on a one week trial.

Dompost described McBreen as a journeyman - I note that no one at the game had anything to say about his play. Thought there might be more comment on this  striker trialling. Was he that ordinary?

I didnt find it very amusing at all. It was just a waste of time, poor sportsmanship and Lia just being a total dickhead in my view. If he tried something like that in Cap he would have followed the boot over the fence (or through it).

To be honest I did not notice him...I thought he was just a ring in from a local club to fill in the numbers. Ordinary would be an accurate assessment!!!
