what an odd decision after such a tumultuous season...i note the canes are playing on the friday surely that doesnt matter...i would have thought that after the first home game of the season being played in wellington the last home game being played in wellington would be the second most important home game of the season...what a slap in the face to the fans who bleed yellow and black to miss out on the last game at home specially if against all the odds it is a game with a play off position riding on it...seems like moronic management 101... wonder what the coach and players think of that...
What's really wrong with the Wellington Phoenix?
I'm seething, apologies to anyone offended by I am offended by the stupidity of such decisions. Like Razza, I am committed to the game on March 17th but this really is taking the piss.
Camel with a sore back and lots of straw lying around here.
The biggest blunder in recent times has been the non recruitment of Darije in the middle of last year.
Makes me angry every time I think of it. It has wasted pretty much a season and a half of time. The last half of last season was wasted by him not being here to look over the squad to build what he wants in the off season, and this season has been wasted while he actually does that.

It's not hindsight when there were plenty saying it at the time (myself included)! Not about Darije specifically, but about the waste of time having Des and Greenie see out the entire season if a coach was/could have been already in. Same with the goalkeeper situation. Alarm bells were ringing everywhere when Italiano was announced as the no.1 with Sail as the backup.
When people don't show up in Wellington, then I can't blame them for trying to recoup costs elsewhere.
1)If the team was winning, people in Wellington would show up. People aren't going to come to watch the bottom placed team.
2) Are people really going to show up in Auckland to watch a losing team, I can't imagine.
3) You can't take the LAST home game of the season away. That is a complete slap in the face to loyal fans in my opinion. Honestly I find that pretty disgusting.
Bear in mind, this benefits me as i'm in the Waikato, so I will be able to go - I just don't believe it is good for the club.

I wish I could "This point" 100 times. And if I hear the excuse that the sponsors wanted the game there, then I would suggest the club grow some balls and tell the sponsors NO.
Who runs things? The club or the sponsors? The sponsors know what they are in for before they negotiate a supportive contract. If the sponsors want games in Auckland, let them start their own team up there.
Ps: I hope our local iwi were consulted!
The thread should just be changed to David Dome

There has been every reason for fans to turn up this year. Yeah Right Just more evidence of aclub that really dosnt give a shark about its loyal fans.So PO with this its a joke. Likely to be Duras last game and they take it away as for attendances as LG says not sure what he has been smoking.
The Durante point is one I missed and so very true. Thanks Domey! Gone from seething to livid!
couldnt agree more mr gunman...changed a lot of things round to get to welly from the bottom of the sth island for that game...cant be bothered adding another 1300 km to the trip ..was meeting sis and bro in law who are also out of welly...well i guess theres always next year...theres something sad about the club at the moment..seems to me its been down hill since motor mouth morgan fudgeed up the small stadium...
Nix can shove their fudgeen memberships up their arse. This is a dumb call!
A month and a half out taking our last game of a shark season where I've still turn up week in and week out. Leaves Wellington with two games, one in February and one in March. Likely Dura last game now out of Wellington that I can't attend as I'll have a new child and can't afford it.
Bugger having a membership, I'll just get those $10 or free tickets instead and choose if I turn up.
Yep another example of not thinking of the fans wonder if there are many away fans who booked to come here for the last game.

Why take a swipe at Iwi?
FFS seriously if you read that as a swipe at Iwi you really have issues.
yep ballane..way down south..specially planned.. plans now shot to shark..what winners the club management are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Most certainly not a swipe at them but the club have just slapped them in the face. I am sure when the Iwi came on board at the start of the season they were not expecting this. I feel for the Iwi and i feel for fans down here and fans that would have travelled here for that game.

Beginning to really question just why i bother.
The Phoenix website still has this game advertised as being played at Westpac Stadium.
I’d booked flights down for it back in the Air NZ sale.
Now what am I supposed to do...
cos you are a loyal decent dedicated fan who will be around long after prima donnas like kosta and players of that ilk and grandstanders like morgan and managers like dome..i salute you
Plus poor Melbourne fans that booked flights and probably got them when cheap ages ago. Hope they forked out for insurance as well.

Travel insurance wouldn’t pay out for that.

At our next game at Westpac (February 17th) Can I suggest the zone "sit down" for the game as a peaceful protest??
Jesus. What idiocy. If you don't want games in Auckland then get Wellingtonians to go to fudgeing games. If they can go to Auckland and it costs them nothing but playing here gets less people and costs them 50k of course they are going to go.
If you are serious about your indignation protesting a common sense decision for the viability of the club isn't the answer. It's getting another 6k of your football mates to go and watch them

What a load of crap. Short term gain (arguably) for long term cost.
I see your point, go to Auckland for a 5,00 crowd or stay in Wellington for a 6,500 crowd. Makes sense to me. Gave fans a chance to say farewell to Durante and probably a few others. Hmmmm yep, good call.

yeah what a retarded thing to say - of course it costs something to go to Auckland! they paid for the stadium already....any changes is an additional cost - 5k or less at Aucks is going to be a waste and a bigger embarrasment.
in general terms i agree but the final game of the season duras probable final game etc i dont think so...just another short sighted management decision...perhaps the club should look for an optometrist to add to the list of sponsors...enjoy your trip to auckland

As a matter of interest have you seen the attendance figure for games taken out of Wellington the last couple of seasons.
Don't let facts get in the way of your tears and angst.
If they have to play in Auckland a couple of times a season for free to keep the club alive then fudgeing do it, they told us all along 2-3 games would be outside of Wellington before anyone renewed you can't then whine because two of them are out of Wellington.
FFS seriously if you read that as a swipe at Iwi you really have issues.
I read it as a sarcastic remark, maybe I spend too much time with racist dick heads.
Why would the Iwi care?
making an assumption - iwi gave us as official welcome as a new club/identity - with a Maori quote - perhaps they'd be upset with being associated with such an abysmal mess????
Iwi because they wished to build a closer bond with the club after the club said they wished to build a closer bond with them? Yes, to the other comment.
On one hand, I'm happy to have a second Auckland game.
On the other, I 100% encourage protests against Dome's management - eg the "sit down" already mentioned. Not because I necessarily think 2 AKL games is a bad call, but because 1 minute of REAL PUBLIC PROTEST ACTION is probably more use - and definitely more healthy - than whinging and tearing each other to shreds on forums.

how does getting less fans than at home to the aucks game help??
Can't wait to say bye to Dura behind a 7 pixel stream!
do you seriously think andrew durante wants to play his final HOME game for the club thats been his home for ten years at a venue 650 km from where the club is based...very very sad call...2 games a season in auckland is fine but i think maybe foolhardy but this game away from wellington...give me a break
lets just focus on whats important here! we are mad at the club and players for disappointing us as a fan base .
Need to get the popcorn out for this thread. Forummers offering out other forummers. Classic.
