I posted that Ferrante was crap after the warm up game at Masterton and everyone jumped down my throat. He is indeed crap at this level. Dont think we are gonna be seeing to much more of him thank goodness.
I like Cleberstons determination but needs to learn how to pass a ball, to our team.

Ferrante was actually pretty damn good vs Melbourne in pre season. I think that's why he's starting.

Actually, that'd be four - Daniel and Brownlie in the first game, Aloisi and Felipe in the second. If you got points for hitting the wood, we'd be top of the table now

We started brightly and Cleberson for me looked great until the first goal (no blame for the result in my eyes), which was taken extremely well but the blame falls squarely on the right backs shoulders.

The second goal was even worse and playing without a right back forced Cleberson to sit deeperthan he would have liked, D'Or did not impose himself on the right at all or even in midfieldwhere he kept sitting and at 2 - 0 game over - Cleberson subbed becuase the game was over

The third was just a demoralised / heads down goal which everyone conceeds when you know you have lost to a better team before half time, but has Moss  actually ever saved a shot this season ?

Ferrante was poor, Aloisi and Coveney have no pace and Smeltz does not anticipate just preferring to react to flick-on's etc, but we still hit the crossbar and maybe Felipe will give us that zest our attacking play lacked in the first half of both games when he gets to start.

Still belive we will beat the Jets next week

...and I suspect to give O'Dor some time at his natural spot and get some confidence back.

As I said pre-match, that Mariners side is a very good side.  If they remain uninjured they will be well in it by the end of the season.

Definitely we need more defence.

The squad has six strikers which is too many - we should have another defence option instead.
Barbarouses is unlikely to get on the pitch this season, let alone Greg Draper!

I'm not sure how our balance of strikers vs other positions compares with other clubs (Liverpool certainly have a few!)

but it is probably fair to say that strikers get injured more often, get dropped more often and come off the bench more often (than players in defence or midfield) so it might not be the logisitical problem that you believe it is

I would expect that our last squad place might go to a right sided defender, or a holding midfield player

Yeah true, but Liverpool also have heaps of Central Midfielders too and no cap on players or salary. The Phoenix did go into this season a little heavy on strikers.

When I first came onto this site many people wanted a 3-5-2 formation I didn't see the point as I personally think 4-4-2 is better usually. But looking back and looking at this squad now, knowing more than before, it seemed logical with 4 decent centerbacks and only one recognised left back, who is probably useful as a central defender and in the midfield.

As for holding midfielders we have Johnson Aloisi and Brown (supposedly Christie but I'm not sure what position he really is). Right back maybe if we still have a spot left, but its still early days, things may work out.

fair enough about the holding midfield players , I'd forgotten about Johnson, and I fully expect aloisi to miss a game or two - but Johnson could partner Brown if neccesary (i.e we are away) on those occassions

Sort the defence out.  Cleberson had a shocker, but played well against Melborne, so i would give him another go.  Right back.......needs sorting.  Brown or Fileppe in for Ferrante (He was CRAP)
