Bertos, Smeltz or Siggy. Probably Siggy.

How can it not be Ferrente after tonight? Absolutly sensational, can't see him staying in this league for much longer

No doubt. Siggy. Stepping up from the NZFC and being a real force at the back. Plus in the last two games he gets forward well too

I didn't vote for him I voted for Siggy, my comment was sarcastic. Feverish perhaps you can remove Ferrente and his results.

Siggy. Think he would've been better with a solid CB partnership but was still pretty terrific. IMO Durante + Sig should be the preferred pairing.

Where's the Vince Lia option? He didn't play a bad game this season IMO!

Sigmund. played well all season.
Muscat was great find I thought had goood season.
Moss played well when on.
Smeltz had stunner scoring 12 goals. some of them class(the long range aagainst melbourne and the chip against newcastle)
karl dodd also very very solid at back

overall though sigmund played bloody awesome and derseves the player of the season

Seamonster!! What a player! He is someone who gives 200% every game. He has the skills, he has the power and the heart.

I really feel he could be one of the best players in the A-League if he had been playing professionally since he was 18-19. It's a real shame he didn't make it big till this year. NZFC doesn't really teach you much, does it? Besides, I've always wondered why a player who played for the AW's quite often would not be playing outside NZ. Personal choices I suppose. Seamonster said he even thought about giving up footy, didn't he?

I'm just glad he didn't!

yea was talking to him at one fo the signing sessions at the nix store and said was thinking hard one stage and stopping football and joining rugby.

can you believe it??? I mean he knew he was good. Not many NZFC players earn a cap with the AW's, but I guess motivation is all in football. Suppose he might have been frustrated that he wasn't playing professional whilst having the skills.

Again, I'm stoked he didn't give up and hope he'll stay with the club for a good number of years. He would make a fine captain in a couple of years time!

yea I hope he sticks with the club for a few years. he's a great talent. although I was looking at an old poster i had of the kings in the 02/03 season i think it was...adn good ol' siggy was there. that's proffesional football.

Sigmund was a fantastic find, but how can you look past Smeltz? I guess it's because he is leaving. Were he staying on I suspect he would be ahead in this poll. Smeltz scored 12 of our 23 goals this season, just over half, and some of them were absolutely spectacular (Melbourne and Newcastle come to mind).

I am pretty sure if you asked the other clubs which single Phoenix player they would most want in their squad the most common response would likely be Smeltz. Forwards who score regularly are a rare thing, and unless the club does some seriously good work in the off season we may yet learn this the hard way.

Anyway, thank you Smeltzy, you were fantastic.

Sigmund and Muscat were the finds of the season. Kwasnik was awful, Dura underachieved and the less said about Gao the better. However, McKain was absolute quality, Hearfield developed the more he played, Costa has potential and Bertos was pretty decent as well. Fingers crossed for next season, because while we improved (especially at the back) we have very little invention going forward and with the standard of the league improving we will need to bring in some better attacking players if we are going to stand a chance.

I'm voting Manny, partly cos the Seamonster has too many votes for anyone else to catch him. Manny has plugged what for us last season was a huge problem position, and despite not being quite as consistent as Siggy, he really has made it his own.

i reckon sigmund played consistanly well. game in game out played well

smeltzy had off games but than scored a goal....although that is a sign of a good striker taking oppertunitys. I think shane smeltz might be found out now and teams might have found out how to defend him(put him on his left)

Sigmund has to be the surprise package of the whole A League, few knew of him, few expected too much from him and what an impact on your debut season. That man has certainly stepped up to the mark and found it comfortable at this level - considering he still has a few things to learn and improve on. His rapid impact is nothing short of breathless. He  almost scored two goals last night but for someone getting in his way.

Ricki must have a wry smile on his face when he reviews the season with Terry & Tony. Well done Siggi, you have deserved all the plaudits and gained all of our respect.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

completely disagree, sure the first part of the season he was mainly just on pens, but he is a player who no matter how tightly marked will probably always be able to pop up and score as long as he's around his current form He has great positioning and usually doesn't have to rely on creating his own opportunities like against Melbourne, and with the other players around him  at GCU he'll have even more chances to score.

Muscat just fails at crucial moments for me. ALWAYS gets caught out of position and CB's have to go over and cover him. Sigmund for me.

...course that doesn't include the times he gets pulled inside to cover for the CBs or the midfield player in front of him leaves him exposed!

He'll learn. He's had a good season.Jag2009-01-25 13:13:33

gave Bertos my vote because Siggy's casting a pretty big shadow there, he's had a solid season and played whenever fit, much more thsn Moss or even Sig. He never really had an off game either but both him and Lochead need to work on more consistantly good delivery-work
