Why did Ricki sign Christie?

Jeremy Christie must have a few admirers, Ricki Herbert, Wynton Rufer, John Adshead, Kevin Fallon and Ron Smith have all used him in their respective teams. Rufer and Fallon both used him as captain of the NZ under 17's team. As well as this he managed a few seasons at Barnsley with David Mulligan, Leo Bertos and Allan Pearce. He definitely isn't the 'plodder' you guys call him either, he is quite a talented natural sportsman being quite a good cricketer and a New Zealand age group basketball rep (there isn't too many slow basketballers either) before he went to Mount Albert Grammar. I'm not pretending he is going to set the world on fire, but I think he deserves more respect and a chance to prove himself in a Phoenix jersey, like all the others in the squad. My rant over for the night hahaha Chiefy2007-05-31 23:07:34

Good point chiefy.

Give him a shot, if he doesnt pull his weight then pass. Easy enough.

Pre-season cup around the corner.

I wonder if Christies on more than $11.25 an hour?

It would only be proper and fair that he's on the minimum wage until he proves himself. So far he is the only player that doesn't excite me in this Phoenix squad. Never impressed me yet in all the games I've seen him play. Anonymous in the All Whites game v Wales. I think this is the last thing I will post about JC. I'll let him get on the park and let his footballing prowess do the talking.
Should he impress then I hope all the critics including myself will give him his dues. That is the only way it should be. At the end of the day if he does well it's a positive thing and if he doesn't then he will be looking elsewhere as he will be replaced. That's football. But sometimes coaches see different things to us fans. I could never understand why Norwich City persisted with Robert Rosario - one of the worst strikers I have ever seen, although he did give me one of the biggest laughs at a game when he scored with his arse. The Canaries finally lost patience and flogged him off to Forest where he did nothing. Probably flipping meat patties at a Little Chef in the Midlands now....

I do not agree with this but Ricki has come out and said he will be played as a fullback so looks like right back, as Lochead will be left back.

He might be an OK squad player, able to cover in the middle or at the back.

Yeah, but I'd still rather him than Vlahos, Richter, Harnwell and a hundred others I could name.

Forza Plodder !  Might even get Plodder on the back of my Phoenix shirt instead of the traditional...

Ah, the way things were!

I stand by that.  He's not great but there have been plenty of worse A-League players - many of them at the Knights.

How's my driving? - Whine here

Plodder wasn't as bad as made out. Not gifted but there was worse at the nix back then. George "Kenny Cunningham" Paladini springs to mind

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!
