(I am new around here and am not sure if I am posting this in the right section!)

But anyway, alright guys!

I am a UK-based sports writer and I am currently working on a series of articles called 'Could this team be the team for you?'- and for Part 2 it will be based on the Wellington Phoenix!

I think the Wellington Phoenix is a really interesting club and I want that to come across in this article, I mean I don't know many clubs that have a website with a forum like this for one!

But yeah, if anyone would have time to speak to me or go through the cool things about your club that would be great!

Thank you for your time and here is my Part 1- based on Argentine club River Plate!

Nice read on River Plate. Was actually in Lima late last year (pre Covid), when the city was teaming with theirs's and Flamengo (Brazil) fans for the Copa Libertadores final. Dramatic scenes as Plate were 1-0 up until 89th min, to concede twice in 4 mins to lose 2-1. So 1966 was not their only 'choke' for biggest price in Sth American club football.

Because the final had been moved at the last minute from Santiago (with all the civil unrest in Chile at the time) to Lima, fans had had to buy last minute flights. Most were then stuck in Lima for another 3-5 days waiting for flights home (often the long way return through Panama). So another 3-5 days of misery for the Plate fans, amongst all these drunk Flamengo hinchas

Someone told me that below scene in superb Argy movie 'Secrets in their Eyes' was filmed in Rio Plate's stadium.

This Copa90 video from 4 years ago had plenty of info as well as interviews with fans, staff and players. A bit old now so doesn’t have anything about the club since the Ernie Merrick left/the badge rebrand which many fans would probably regard as the beginning of a new era. But plenty of info from 2007-2016.

Reading your article reminded me of that friggen freezing night at the Ring of Fire when we smashed Boca Juniors juniors 2-1 and Dura scored...

How stupid does this whole thing look now considering the state of the league?

I know tonnes about the "SaveTheNix campaign but what is so bad with the league since then. Would you mind expanding on that?

FFA, poor decisions would be a good starting point. Instead of improving things or moving forward with the A League, feathering their own collective nests appears to be more important.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Falling crowds, falling TV viewership and a hugely reduced TV rights deal.

Lack of real star quality visa players since del Piero (spp). Though not saying signings like that were sustainable. Lowy family staying involved too long.
