nerves shot.
voice gone.
that equaliser...

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Yeah, Popovic should have got a straight red for the elbow on Coveney.  Especially since he compounded by going after him like a mofo.  I don't get it, Elrich gets sent after Seo does his best Kevin Costner impersonation for something I still haven't seen an elbow for, it's blatantly obvious Popovic elbows Coveney, yet he then gets a second yellow for something that was totally innocuous.  Some of the inconsistencies are baffling really.

How great was the save from Moss on Brosque's header?  Wow!

Popovic did absolutely nothing for the second yellow, Daniel went down like a dying swan.
The linesman clearly signalled that there was no foul - the referee decided that he'd seen something.

But the elbow was worse than Elrich's.

yeah, i was worried that the ref was running over to book Daniel, but i was on the opposite side of the field so can't be sure - doesn't matter though popovic should have been off earlier - as you say

a-league needs better reffing!

Thoughts on the ref? Interesting to see that he's not copping too much flak overall.

Pretty much the best we can hope for these days.

Felipe, showed some amazing control, and superb flicked passes - the lad is a genius in my view and can take any risk he wants in the attacking third!

I thought he was pretty good. Got the Popovic incidents wrong, and missed a few both ways, but then who doesnt?

When Coveny and Popvovic were having that tussle did anyone wonder why the linesman/ref's assistant played NO PART in the proceedings? Closest and with a clear view... yet no flag nor any chat withe ref....

Ok Lads, IMHO..........

I was sitting in Aisle 21, Row D. The YF seemed a little short on numbers today, possibly because of that  lady turning every second person away, maybe because of the 8,064 attendance. (Oh and Tony P, you owe me a prize, I told you that we'd get 8,000. I'm surprised too, perfect weather, pitch and the players, well what can I say?) The missing fans missed out on a treat.

Ok, we drew thanks to a last minute penalty. Gutted about that. But what a treat of a game. EVERY Phoenix player played very well. Rees has given me a new confidence in the defence yet it wasn't because Plodder was missing, but Rees covered Dodd and Old. Old, what can I say? Dumb ? After getting the yellow he was pushing his luck but seeing how upset he was as he approached the YF Zone, you could see he knew what he'd done. I felt sorry for him. Other than that, he had a pretty decent game along with everyone else. Lia showed class, Ferente had his best game in our shirt, he, Daniel & Felipe (Cool haircut too by the way) were everywhere and I was not surprised our two Brazilians ran out of petrol. Johnson held the midfield well and our Captain had a very good game. What an awesome volley, what a goal. Well done! Covney lasting the full 90, held the ball up extremely well and really gave their defence a hard time. His card I felt was over the top, a 50/50 to me. I saw the Sydney guys go down with lesser challenges.

A very positive performance. If I had one critism to make it is this.....

Why are our guys so scared to pull the trigger and shoot? From 5 yeards or from 30 yards, have a go. We seemed to spend too much time trying to create the perfect chance. Their keeper wasn't that good and I reckon a few long range efforts would have really panicked him.

They might had had the better of the first 20 minutes but after that, we had them under the kosh. We need to shoot more and shoot with confidence. I was suprised Johnson went off. Surely his best game for us too - a game of a lot of firsts I guess. Young BBsos did ok, you can see he needs some Gym work but he's got a good turn of speed and frankly speaking I don't expect much from him at this stage in his career. Definately has the goods, just needs them honed! Well done young fella. Brownlie? Held the ball well but again, scared to pull the trigger and if he had a left foot, he would have scored but he kept trying to get the ball onto his right foot and thus lost out on some shots. I want the guy to do well but I think he can be his own worst enemy. Shoot man, that's your prime role!

Honourable mentions to the Fans, the singing was good for most part. I see Aisle 23 tried to out YF the YF Zone. Classic, good to see the singing spreading around the ground. Top marks to those whom took their shirts off. More than ever before. I would have taken mine off but I didn't want to steal all the very attractive female fans from the male populous. (Yeah right!)

Maybe I have got the game wrong but this is how I saw it. I really enjoyed the game despite the result. You can really see that is in fact a talented squad that can go on to better things for sure.  It wa scool meeting up with fans at the Backbencher and at the game too. As we all get to know each other, you can feel the family atmosphere developing. new friends, new aquaintences. Good stuff.

I've left Moss out of this as you can catch my view on him in the MOTM vote. "Surpreme" is one word I'd suggest.

I agree with Lonegunmen  and his comment about "the game despite the result". ... I really got into the game. My friend who came with me had never been to a sports match before, and she really got into it. She was thrilled by the atmosphere and made our night by saying "is it ok if I come to the next one with you?"

Lonegunmen, I agree with your analysis of the game (sorry I know having a Manure fan agree with you is not exactly going to make your night!)  Our team missing so many first teamers through All Whites and suspension really stood up and played well.  Juninho?  As we all said - who r ya?  Pretty invisible.  One bad decision at the end , ah well.  Really proud of the boys.  I think the lower crowd probably also reflects the Galaxy weekend coming up.  We need to remember that outside of our group of football heads who prioritise our expenditure around the Nix, many familiies make a more careful assessment.  If Mum, Dad, and John and Joanne Average are planning to go the Galaxy that's a fair bit of coin.  Suspect the Sydney game wasn't going to get a look in.  Maybe a similar turnout for Perth.

Anyway, my daughter enjoyed the experience.  I think she was a bit shocked when Dad kept leaping to his feet and joining in the chants, but she's ready to come back.  (Very keen on the merchandise stall - must be something genetic in that.)

Was definately a card. Blatent dive. Worse than any dive Daniel's done this year haha

I thought Felipe looked like the only one willing to shoot from range. Had one in the first half that wasn't bad and had a great shot in the 2nd that was deflected

I was suprised Johnson went off. Surely his best game for us too - a game of a lot of firsts I guess.

Johnson was injured/tired. Was limping a bit when he went off

What I liked is that with the new formation we actually had more of a game plan.  Usually we just look a little clueless.  Maybe we just had more attacking/playmaker type players today but again i loved having Coveny up front for the target and he (and Filipe) seemed to get much more support from midfield, while they still also got back for the defence.

As everyone has said, damn gutting, can't believe poor old Old, but it is a point.  Will be interesting to see who plays and what formation next week now.   There is certainly some great competition for positions which can only be a good thing!

Harsh game to have taken away from us. Luck of the draw/that's sport/yadda yadda, etc etc. I haven't seen the 'Nix play as well as they did tonight -- there were moments of shear individual brilliance (Moss, Moss and did I mention Moss?) as well as some solid, nitty gritty teamwork too.

Steven Old, up until that moment of carelessness (and that's all it was) was starting to show why he's considered one of the top prospects for this sport in this country. He's a confidence man, and he was thriving on the C stuff tonight  and more than earning his keep. And then... yeah.

I hope someone pulls him aside and has a quiet word with him, because I'd hate to see what happen tonight completely shatter the confidence that's come into his game over the past couple of weeks.

We played too defensively once we got ahead. For most of the game we were back passing the ball rather than moving it forward and whenever we got near to the goal we seemed gunshy to take a shot at goal (which I think has been a problem all year). Unfortunately it was from such a back pass that Sydney swooped on and made us pay. We were clearly not the best attacking team out there yet we were a few minutes away from a win (thanks to a supreme effort by Moss). If we continue to play like this the crowd will start to waiver. Lets get back to all out attack like we did early in the campaign and bring the excitement back to the Stadium.

Thought Aloisi had a great game.
Rees looked the goods at the back
Moss - unbelievable
Old - Bad error of judgement for the penalty. Just saw it on the telly and looked like the Sidney player's first touch was taking him wide. Thought Old did alright apart from that and hope this doesn't lead to him being crucified.
Why didn't we send the ball into the corners in the last few minutes? I don't remember ever seeing a goal scored directly from a goal-kick.
Overall I thought it was decent performance and one 2nd half move when we basically took the piss out them for a couple of minutes was absolutely superb.

Talking of the telly, interesting to note the different ways that TV1 and TV3 reported the game:
TV3 - A last minute penalty led to heartbreak....
TV1 - The Phoenix blew a chance to win.....
TV3 - The result leaves the Phoenix 7th on the table...
TV1 - The Phoenix will go last if Perth win...

p.s. The "We've Got The Best Turtles In The League" chant was quality

was it just me or were those subs a little bit crazy?? 2 strikers for 2 midfielders (ironically win thrown away in the midfield 92nd minute)?? 17 year old for your captain??? sure team was tired and first sub could of been excused for daniels injury but is there something im missing here

Johnson at least, and I suspect Aloisi were injured or destroyed.  Johnson quite obviously limped off.

Remember Aloisi has been out for 4 weeks injured and Johnson had to pass a fitness test yesterday morning so they may could well have hit the wall.

It was a choice between a 60/70 % fit looking Johnson/Aloisi or the players that came on. Think he made the right choice tbh.

Highlights here

Didn't recall much of the game tbh so good to see in the harsh light of (semi) sobriety. Moss was incredible, Old was an absolute ass to give such a blatant penalty away.

Why do the players treat us (the supporters) with such contempt, we pay our well earned dollar to watch a 90 minute game of competitive football, not watch some dopey pratt, play silly buggers, wasting time holding a ball up by the corner flag.

WHY did the Phoenix stop playing on 60 minutes, was it because they thought Mossy would keep the result. (which he almost did)

Just on the crowd thing.  When I got tickets for the family from Ticketek, They said the whole side from aisle 17 to 28 was full!!! i had to sit in aisle 16 and then to see there was only 8000 there was a bit dissapointing.  Did anyone else have the same problem?
