Just going off what they put on their IG story of the players walking down the stairs there doesn’t look to be any atm. A couple guys I didn’t recognise, but one I assume is Mauragis (looked close enough), and two ‘keepers. One looked a tall unit so probably Alby Kelly-Heald as third now Henry Gray isn’t there, and I didn’t see Sail there so maybe Callum Kennett/Talay’s son to make up the numbers today.

Just going off what they put on their IG story of the players walking down the stairs there doesn’t look to be any atm. A couple guys I didn’t recognise, but one I assume is Mauragis (looked close enough), and two ‘keepers. One looked a tall unit so probably Alby Kelly-Heald as third now Henry Gray isn’t there, and I didn’t see Sail there so maybe Callum Kennett/Talay’s son to make up the numbers today.

I don't do the whole Instagram thing anymore. How many were actually involved overall? I'm guessing the senior guys (Wootton/Bally) and the ones who had AW's involvement may have been afforded a little longer in terms of their holidays?

Is there confirmation Krishna is not coming back? All that I have heard is he's training with an Auckland club before confirming his next move and someone on the forum commented he is keen on playing in the A-League and not going back to India.

Yeah we all meme’d the Lasogga stuff but that’s just a nature of a long off season, fans are gonna speculate and wonder what we might look like in the season to come.

I seem to remember I made a big long list of potential Dávila replacements last season and people enjoyed it. Sandoval wasn’t on it so it was all in vain in the end but it was just a bit of fun. No need to make Wusty out to be ridiculous when he’s at least giving us something to talk about during this dearth of Nix content.

Auckland’s a great place, but if he was having a holiday I’m sure an island in Fiji would be better then our winter

I remember Finnbogasson from his time at Heerenveen. Was highly thought of at the time and moved to real sociedad. Think that’s when he faced the dons but didn’t do much in those two games. Could be interesting, but hasn’t played or scored much over the last 6 years. 

Will grigg was great for Wigan, totally hyped then flopped from memory. Not sure what’s happened since, maybe believed his own hype? Again, would be an interesting signing, and has a great song 👍

I guess you can forgive Finnbogason for not playing or scoring much in the past few seasons as he has missed quite a few games through injury. Last season he did manage 2 goals in 10 games which is obviously not amazing by any means but still a decent ratio for only a short number of appearances.

Talay has bought probably the best 2 import strikers to Nix, in his time at the club. He got Hemed in the midst of the pandemic, and also got Hooper to return when the Nix were still stuck in Aus. Though Hoops maybe signed up, pre Omicron when it seemed the Nix would be back in NZ, sooner than transpired. Uffie and Gill have form.

It's probably the toughest signing gig in the ALM, getting a quality import striker. I imagine a fair amount of luck & patience is needed.

That list will quickly shorten, as you cross off the guys who have no desire to relocate to NZ (many), are too expensive (many), fail the 'no dickhead' policy (a few), have an injury that's likely career ending/making them a shadow of their former selves (a few), sign with someone else just before you make an offer (a few).

It's no doubt a tricky process, and the time of year when Gill especially earns his salary! But in him & Uffie I trust, and with time hopefully they sign another Hooper or Hemed. It may not happen until close to season start date (early October), but I'd rather it's late in the piece and another Tomer, rather than now and some unimpressive sounding guy from the Israeli 2nd tier (aka Glory). Patience.

It's no doubt a tricky process, and the time of year when Gill especially earns his salary! But in him & Uffie I trust, and with time hopefully they sign another Hooper or Hemed. It may not happen until close to season start date (early October), but I'd rather it's late in the piece and another Tomer, rather than now and some unimpressive sounding guy from the Israeli 2nd tier (aka Glory). Patience.

All I hope for now is we have another signing or two announced before our Australia Cup opener and that Talay and Gill currently have some potential options in mind for an import striker who is just as prolific as Hooper, Hemed, and Greenacre were.

Greenacre (19 goals in 84 Nix games) ain't a good example of a prolific striker

Bloody good point! We can hopefully get a much stronger team than last year, even a few imports, maybe bringing a few wahine back from overseas/other ALW clubs, but still give the young stars of last year a good run?

as mentioned before - not my job to spend my days scouring transfer market for random players that will have ever heard of the nix let alone NZ.

I am sure lots of past import signings had no idea about the Phoenix before the coach had a discussion with them. I like looking on transfermarkt to see who is available because I want a good replacement for Hooper like everyone else probably does should Krishna not come back. If Talay and Gill are interested in anyone, it would be great to know.

Pretty sure Gill and Talay arent gonna advertise who they are looking at before the ink has dried - telling us who they are hoping for would just lead to a whole lot of angst and disappointment when someone didnt sign for some reason. It's just not something that's done.

I understand what you mean, it is just really hard to wait patiently when there have been so many signings from A-League clubs in recent days and the only thing that has happened for us is a loan for a player from Newcastle who is probably just going to return there after this upcoming season.

Is there confirmation Krishna is not coming back? All that I have heard is he's training with an Auckland club before confirming his next move and someone on the forum commented he is keen on playing in the A-League and not going back to India.

Talay has bought probably the best 2 import strikers to Nix, in his time at the club. He got Hemed in the midst of the pandemic, and also got Hooper to return when the Nix were still stuck in Aus. Though Hoops maybe signed up, pre Omicron when it seemed the Nix would be back in NZ, sooner than transpired. Uffie and Gill have form.

It's probably the toughest signing gig in the ALM, getting a quality import striker. I imagine a fair amount of luck & patience is needed. 

Lasogga was a good suggestion, but is no doubt just one of dozens of players Talay & Gill are poring over videos of. That list will quickly shorten, as you cross off the guys who have no desire to relocate to NZ (many), are too expensive (many), fail the 'no dickhead' policy (a few), have an injury that's likely career ending/making them a shadow of their former selves (a few), sign with someone else just before you make an offer (a few).

 Would be nice for sure, but I'm not to worried if we don't. Like others have said, if we can get better players but at a later date I'd be happy. We really have quite good depth already, especially for a cup game. Sail, Sutton, Wootton, Surman, Payne, Lewis, Ugarkovic, Old, Barbarouses, Ball, Waine - Elliot, Mauragis, OVH, Pennington on the bench - that's definitely a strong enough team fot the cup

ALW doesn't start until November 18th, 5-6 weeks after the ALM.

Also from memory ALW squads are only 18 players. Expect the Nix Women to retain around 12 of last year's squad as a wild guess. So they may only be looking for 5-6 new signings (maybe even less) plus scholarship players.
