Bertos owned his coffee shop whilst he played... Fallon ran his ice cream franchise whilst still playing.
Then there are the ones who invest in different things and take an active role in decision making, like Chris Wood and his horses in Cambridge, to those that also study for life after footy. I'm sure Brown did study here in NZ before accepting his place at Oxford as well.

People need an outlet.
Rory's ice cream shop was basically just a freezer planted on a pram while he was still playing and it only happened at the very end of his career. It helped him a lot that most ice cream here in Blighty is bang average compared to the kiwi style ice cream which he peddled.
I thought Kosta's partner hated wellington, which is why he snaked the second time around?
Yeh. I'd have thought he burnt his bridges at the Nix. And I'd be surprised if any at Nix management want him back after the last debacle. Add to that he was on super high salary at SFC. Think he will be wanting alot of $$. If there was an option for a non visa player. Would prefer we spent the money on Roy Krishna. Even though Roy is older and likely toward the end of his playing days. Kosta's season was disrupted alot with the break injury. So I'd say he will still get a good gig somewhere and likely perform well. He'll probably turn up at Macarthur or Brisbane.
Massive no to Kosta from me... Also regarding players who run businesses/prepare for life after football on the side... I think the big red flag for many (me included) is that Champness already took a break from his football career to pursue music. So he wasn't really running both "side by side". He seems to have had a change of heart. So I'd have him in a flash.. But I agree with those saying that his head would need to be in the right place.
Why can't he be focused on both... lots of players run successful side businesses and enterprise.
Think having a business is a bit different from trying to work on a music career. Not as if he can employ someone to run it while he concentrates on his football. Just me i dont think he can do justice to both at the same time and frankly if he isnt 100% focused on his football i would rather we didnt sign him. Also after his last stint dont get how people can call for Kosta to be signed.
Face it- if he came back, worked hard and scored a few you’d all be celebrating the home town hero again. His family still here?
If he came back he’s a senior pro, not a headliner. We’re talking David Ball levels of application required.
If he came back, surely a salary offer that is much lowered with add ons.
If he came back- Uffie would have to want him. Which means he’d have a plan about the kind of performances he expected. Some on here think he’s not great in Uffie’s formation.
Players returning are great fun. Smeltz, Kosta and Krishna with Burns on the bench was cracker- but not consistently winning.
Would he be forward or ten?
But basically for me is does Uffie want him? If so, fine. I never felt he threatened the Nix much when we played Sydney this year, but he has played in the amazing Ange champion teams, and perhaps wants to be near family and make amends for his poor showing last outing.
Confirmed that Sotirio and McGarry are going and Sandoval is going back to his parent club so I doubt we're trying to get him back. The good news is that Piscopo isn't confirmed to leave yet so may still be a chance we can resign him.
List of released players has just posted on Insta- Jaushua Sotirio, Gael Sandoval, Gary Hooper, James McGarry, Matthew Bozinovski, Kurtis Mogg and George Ott
Thing is does his family really come into it as apparently thats one of the reasons he left last time as there was some tension. Yep things may have been mended but for that reason and his form just dont think it warrants the potential risk. I have faith Talay and his staff have plenty of time to get the players they want. Lets face it Talay has a pretty good record of identifying potential talent and getting them to play for him. Hopefully he gets to assemble the team he wants and they perform like that 1st Covid season team did. Yep they may have gone out with a whimper but pre shift to Australia if people remember they were flying and i for one have no doubt that with home finals they would have been a real threat.

No Reno yet. He is considering his options.
I am genuinely gutted Sotirio is offski, he's come on leaps and bounds under Talay. But very interesting to see Reno not on that list. Fingers crossed, i'd rather we were able to get him to sign another couple of years, he has a stormer next and get's us a fee from some European or Asian team.
It’s a balance with Reno. Huge fan of his creating 30-35 metres from goal, but look at the XG for long shots. I’d like to see an increase in his goal contributions/attacking opportunities, because he’s damn sure good enough. Part of that maybe a new striker on board and getting on the piss with Waino, Bally and Oldy a few times (assuming they drink) in the off season. But yeh I’d be very happy to see him back. Unpopular opinion, but I think Sandoval has been more clinical on the break than he has in turning attacks into chances. But you don’t shoot, you don’t score and a shot happy forward sure isn’t the worst thing in football! When’s he’s playing the game is worth watching.
I'd say US College system more likely, or try for some gig in Scandinavia. Mogg's 21 & Ott 20. They have just had virtually a full season in Australia, training as a pro day in day out, but seems Talay & Co decided they unfortunately didn't make the grade. Pro football can be brutal.
Doubt they really have a future at the Nix. For some relevance Waine is 20, Sutton 20, Van Hattum 20, Old 19, Paulsen 19 & Surman 18.
And don't think club need to sign any more Weenix players for next season. Wouldn't surprise to see them sign some older guys with ALM experience released by other clubs. Or the odd NZ domestic/NPL player offered a trial.
All Piscipo has said is he wants to go back overseas. If nothing materialises in Europe then I assume we've got a good chance of retaining him. He has improved quite a lot, he was in his best form for us towards the tail end of the season.
There are quite a few interesting players released by other clubs - Parsons from Brisbane is one I'd look out for, Buhagiar from Sydney would be a like for like replacement for Sotirio etc
Calem Nieuwenhof too, who's been injured but is a promising player.

I can't see him making it overseas tbh, doesn't have the engine. Depends where he goes, I suppose.

not unhappy with those departing TBH. Will be interesting to see how Sotirio does at another club. The rest are replaceable and with the expectation of a normal home and away season we should be able to bring is some good ones.
Champness wouldn't shock me. I think Sotirio worked well in uffies system, but a team like jets that counter attacks will suit him.
If piscopo stays and we get decent ball playing midfielders who defend well he will be immense. If we retain him we need players who will suit his style, that is why I could see kosta being somewhat appealing (if he is cheap)

I thought the rule was you couldn't go play in a US college after signing a professional contract?

Yeah I think you are right. Though from memory is someone in the US College system now, who dabbled in pro football?? Ronan Wynne who had a few games in the Danish 3rd tier, but is now back in the College system I think??
Mogg didn't play a minute in the ALM, though I think he played at least one FFA Cup game?? Ott got 24 mins over 2 ALM games.
Mogg was born in the UK, so that should help him get to Europe if that interested him at all.

If scholarship deals are equivalent to youth contracts, then they might be able to, but I’m not certain. Looking at some European players who play NCAA, they have experience in professional clubs, with even one guy I saw (Martin Vician) having 36 first team appearances for a Slovakian side. That being said, I’d expect them to be in Central League, or head back home to Hamilton/Auckland and join teams locally in the meantime.
according to https://www.capology.com/club/psv/salaries/, Thomas was on 11,000 euro a week, yearly 580,000. And I have no idea who accurate that website is.
Yeah, those websites are crap - I googled it to see if the amount was known, salary sport has 4,700 gbp (5,500 euro), euro football rumors has him at 6,000 gbp (7,000 euros) and capology has him at 11,000 euros.
Doesn't matter, he's going to stay in Europe, he's got an English passport so if he can't find anything in the Netherlands, he should probably make his way to the UK.
An English passport?? I'd like to see one of those. No such thing mate!

You know what I mean, one of his parents is English.
