With this contract extension, Bally makes the Nix legends XI for me. Not an XI of the best players but the most committed, heart on their sleeve, Nix legends.
Krishna Ball Ifill Daniel Brown Lia Muscat Sigmund Durante Fenton Sail
With those players in their primes, that's actually a pretty decent team. I recon they'd give a good chellenge for the toilet seat.
I do think Davila should be there too with Lia on the bench. I think it was only a big 🥕 from Australia that drew him away.
Some more A-League transfer news: hearing that A-League All-Star and Cameroon international Olivier Boumal is being pursued by both the Brisbane Roar and the Wellington Phoenix.
I hope we don't go for him seemed very inconsistent at the Jets and they didn't seem to mind letting him go and that's with most likely losing their other import Penha
20 games or the jets and 4 goals, either they didnt know how to use him or he is as about as good as Sotirio when we got him. Looking at his career he has exactly set the world alight with a lot of goals, one positive is that hes a winger so he'd fit into Talay's style.

Glad you put Daniel in your team. Close to one of my favourite ever Nix players and he often gets forgotten when talking about our legends!
Smeltz and DaVila have to be considered too. Anyone who leaves for another A-League team (Durante is in that lot too) loses major points though.
Reports from Indian Twitter stating that while Roy Krishna has offers on the table from two ISL clubs, his wife wants him to "play in Australia".
Roy Krishna has offers from 2 ISL clubs. One of them is East Bengal who has offered him a lucrative deal but his wife wants him to play in Australia. Let’s see if EB can crack this now that the investor has been officially announced .#teamaikya#JoyEastBengal#IndianFootballpic.twitter.com/c6rXHHCuUF
Hoping that's just a Chinese whispers-like error, and they're unaware the Phoenix are from NZ. I'd absolutely love the idea of Roy and his family coming back here.
If Roy signed for another A-League club, I'd be gutted.
Obviously, loyalty doesn't go far in modern football - especially with the $$$ being thrown around the place - but you'd have to think no one else would have taken a punt on him were it not for us in the first place.
Not saying he 'owes us', but I'd be pretty dark if he went anywhere else. Come home, Roy!

He'd be an import for any Aussie ALM club, but not for the Nix?
And as an aging import (will be 35 when new ALM season kicks) who's raw pace was always his greatest asset, could be seen as a risky punt for Aussie clubs. As others have pointed out former stars returning to the Nix/ALM like Burns, Smeltz, Barba haven't gone so well. 37 yr old Bobo is another I can think of was not the same player returning to Sydney 2nd time around after 3 years away, including an ISL season. Roy won't be the same player he was 3 seasons ago.
At least at the Nix he wouldn't take up a valuable visa spot, but would be risky for Nix to then sign him in place of some quality visa striker a bit younger, coming from a stronger league. ISL looks & sounds pretty rubbish. Not sure Nix would have the cash to sign both, but I guess would depend what wages Krishna wants.
Would he play a deeper role like he pretty ineffectively tried to play for a weak Fiji team against the AWs?
Not ruling him out as an option but I'd be wary especially if he demands big wages. Des Buckingham would be a useful guy for Uffie to talk to, if Roy is interested in a Nix return.
I think he'd still be worth taking a punt on as he doesn't take up a visa spot but if he wants a lot of $ that would eat into our import slots too so i think its really up to how much he's wanting. He has declined each year with his output 21/22 - G/A per 112 mins 20/21 - G/A per 99 mins 19/20 - G/A per 85 mins
She probably said Australia to mean the A-League not specifically a state or country. But, Google says he's on about 1 milion NZD, so if a team is willing to pay anywhere near that they'll be willing to give up an import slot on him.

I think based on the loose criteria you have got that legends team about right. Davilla was a great player for us but LIA played 150 odd games for us, right from the start. A true legend!
I love Roy for what he did for the Nix during his time here and what he's done for Fijian football but at 35 years old, and how we all remember Burns' return during the Rudan season went down like a lead balloon when push came to shove. I'd rather we take a punt at an import slot up front or even a younger home-grown talent.
Roy's been the best striker in India for three years now. Definitely still up to it, it's obvious he keeps in incredible physical condition and doesn't seem to have lost his pace at all yet. I think there's zero reason to not offer him a deal, gives us potential marquee-level production without using a visa spot.
Krishna will be 35 next ALM season. As good a player as he has been (and may still be), it's to justify offering a marque contract for him at that age.
There is definitely talk in India that Krishna has offers from other Indian clubs and also the A League. Plus this quote from an article : Meanwhile, Mohun Bagan management is looking for an alternative to Roy Krishna. It is learned that Green-Maroon is considering signing Serbian forward Alexander Prizovic. He is currently playing for Western United in the A-League in Australia

Tbf with Burns only had one standout season in his career and he struggled with injuries after even Hooper in his season in the Indian Super League had an G/A average of 154 compared to Krishna's 112 + he had injury problems as well. Krishna has only had one injury it seems during his time in India too. So I don't think Krishna returning will be a likely flop maybe not as great in his last season here but I think he will still be effective.

I’d say that’s a fair call, especially if he is injury free. A good player (maybe still more than good) but not the guy he was in that last season under Rudan. I’d rather sign a younger visa striker coming from a higher class league if it’s one or the other. The ISL is shark with a light work load - 20 game season, that I don’t think has had any taxing on the body travel demands for awhile now ie hub setup
But if could get both players great. However think Roy’s wage expectations would make that unlikely.
Again Des Buckingham knows both leagues well. Any interested ALM club (including the Nix) should make a ph call to him, on where Roy is likely at.
Also hey check this out. It’s a graph of the minutes leaders for the Nix last season with the yellow bars reflecting players still under contract and the black bars reflecting those who’ll be leaving. Note how the majority of the most used players last term are all returning... All things considered that’s a pretty decent rate of retaining.
I assume that this is the Gentleman in question. He seems to have good history and maybe useful late in matches. I wouldn't think that he'd be a visa player though.
Maybe played with Uffie when he was younger and Uffie talked up AusZealand while he was there. Given Turkey is a mess finacially, especially in the footie world, maybe he wants one sound paycheck before retirement.
Biggest question is how good are his kebabs? Kababs back home (NZ) quite grim as a rule compared to Turkish, Iranian and Russian offerings.
Roy has been linked to ISL club Mumbai City coached by Des. Williams reportedly has joined them.
Roy's a tough one. He's a club legend but he'll be 35 in August. He had an underwhelming 2021-22 season which was disrupted by injuries and COVID. Is his body telling him that maybe its time to hang up the boots?
Juan Mata 34, leaving United on a Free. Imagine that as a coup to shore up our midfield.
Newcastle, West Ham, Sheffield, Oxford, Cambridge, Leeds, Carlisle, Scodhorpe, Peterborough, Sutton, Southend, Torquay, Colchester, Hartlepool......could you be more specific? No wonder no one likes ManU fans.
Steven Ugarkovic has left WSW, and was one of their better performers. Would want him here but I'd assume he'll stay in Aussie
WSW fans thought he was off to Sydney a month ago, haven't seen any other sauce suggesting a destination.
Starting to look like Heward-Belle at Sydney will looking for a new gig for next season. If Sail gets an overseas move & Uffie wants an experienced Keeper to compete with Paulsen, he might be the best option.

Didn’t realise how many 34 year old Juan Mata’s there were kicking around, I’d only heard of one.
Anyway, it’d be far too expensive, even considering the wage drop. You’d have to get some of the league marquee fund, and even still, given the little revenue for two years, be a massive ask.

besides which whoever is making these decisions would find a reason not to let us bring Mata in - that's only for Sydney or Melbourne clubs.
