Mason Greenwood might be available. I say that tongue in cheek but what would you think if we signed him? I can’t remember the name of the Ex Serie A Italian who was in purgatory for match fixing (I think), do people deserve a chance at redemption?
You are thinking of Marco Rossi. I suspect Mason Greenwood might have to go somewhere they do not speak English or at least read English newspapers. I rather suspect that no matter where that lad goes, there will be fan revolt against him.
It’s a tough one- but I wonder how long that lasts. Just I was listening to a podcast and there was an interview with a murderer who had done his time and was now a tour guide. Mason Greenwood is likely never going to be able to benefit from the profession he’s trained for, once he’s gone from United. There’s a lot less famous who’ve done worse and been rehabilitated, or are famous and had name suppression and we never found out it was them. The charges being dropped in many ways do him no favours as justice is not seen to be done. I don’t excuse the behaviour, but I thought if we can rehabilitate a murderer, surely we can rehabilitate these young men?
Not what I said, though, yes well spotted, I could have been more clear. And many may believe murderers shouldn’t ever be returned to society, which is a valid view.
A court would try to determine the severity of the offense against the benchmarks society has set and give him a chance to do his time.
I was wondering how just the process that is playing out now will be. But I suppose he’s still a wealthy young man with his liberty, just unable to play a sport or do much that requires publicity. It’s not that much of a punishment in that context.
Everyone has the right, once they'd done their time and paid their debt to society/their victims, to be accepted back into society. That does not mean they have a right to whatever riches or privilege they had before they did their crime.
I kinda agree with that, if their wealth has been gained by criminal means then absolutley they should not be allowed it after they've done their time, but if their weath has nothing to do with the alleged criminality then it can't/shouldnt be confiscated and they should be able to access it once released.
Once they've done their time they have the right to whatever employment they can get, if that employment is professional football then it is what it is. That is the nature of western justice systems.
If we sign another local CB we'll definitely be lining up an import forward then. Midfield spots are covered with the players we've got so can't see them signing an import CM. Maybe an import RB but not sure if we've ever signed an import fullback from recent memory.
What are peoples thoughts on him/his level? Never been sold on him, but I believe he is left footed and left sided centre backs are fashionable nowadays.

Haven't watched him play for a long time. So only speculating, but would have thought he'd be a similar level to Laws maybe...... Probably not an upgrade when you consider Laws is now playing in Europe and Brotherton is playing US third tier, but he is a NZer.

Average at best.
Well he ain't doing much at Forward Madison (FM) who are 5th in the USL League One - basically 3rd tier stateside. Only 5 starts across the season in 23 games.
FM have a RB by the name of Payne, maybe that's the selling point.

And that Laws assist for Zawada last season was tip top.
Question is is he better than Payne. And again probably not is the answer. We need at least two CBS better than Payne to be doing well. Surman will be pushing you’d think, but not yet.

Could it be that one of his ex team mates at ACFC like Nathan Lobo or Joe Lee has been signed by the Nix?
Chiefy did say they would be looking closely at some NZ Domestic players when he was appointed. There just has been no word on anyone trialling, apart from that Bayliss guy - and he's come over from Oz.

I know I've been out of the loop the last couple weeks but what Bayliss guy? The NZ u23's called up an Aussie Bayliss kid but he is contracted to the Jets.

We do have that young Fijian kid on trial
NZ u23s have called up Lachlan Bayliss who plays as an attacking midfielder for the Jets.
Nix are currently trialling Lachlan’s older brother James Bayliss. He’s 23, plays for the Mariners (mainly reserves atm) and can cover defensive midfield, left back and right back.

these are the children of Skip Bayless - not sure how they qualify to play for NZ

Interesting. I wonder why they spell their name different?
James has “I have Australian an New Zealand passports…” on his LinkedIn page, and Lachlan is about to play some Olympic qualifiers for New Zealand, so would on the face of it have rights to New Zealand citizenship. Perhaps the boys have at least one parent who was not Skip Bayless do you think?

Ahahaha of course we have been providing lip service by saying we are looking closely at domestic players.
I'll believe it when I see it... the Nix prefer to look after their own interests and promote from the academy (or get some Aussie rando that our coach used to coach)
Singh and Marinovic were dickheads? I'd be interested to know why you reckon they were dickheads?
I'd probably say Oli Sail but can't say I'm an excellent judge of character, especially when I haven't even met them, just watched them
Yeah, I want to hear details on all three of these too. Especially Singh, because, let's face it, goalkeepers are naturally 20% more dickish than outfield players

yeah Oli is probably the only one I'd call a dick and that was really only due to his behavior in the last season. Even then it wasn't directed at the fans, his team or the club, more the opposition. Singh?????? Marinovic? I mean, I never liked the guy as a player but nothing would scream "dick" about him.
