Oscar Faulds. He's a 22 year old striker born in Sweden who was in the squad for an Allsvenskan club's U19 team before coming to play for Napier City Rovers. Also apparently has Swiss citizenship.
Done incredibly well so far in the Central League, 18 goals in 13 games, has aparently been rumored for a little while now to have recieved interest from the Phoenix.
That'd be a rly good transfer but seems out of our reach? 25 y/o playing regularly in the Brazilian top league usually we see players from there who are out of favor come to the A-League like Penha. We'd have to be offering him a nice pay increase for whatever he is on now for it happen.

Had a look at his highlights - very good player, maybe too good for the A-League. Only reason I can think he might turn up here is because the A-League has a higher visibility in Europe and he wants to get there as an end goal. But then, why wouldn't you just try your luck in the MLS? Maybe he has heard of New Zealand famous meat pies 😋
Seems like a signing for a new cashed up team honestly...

Excuse my ignorance (not seen any NCR games this year) but is Oscar Faulds a big unit? If he is all for giving him a trial - the "Zawada" option is something we are lacking right now in the squad.
Otherwise, looking at CL options ... Hamish Watson ... come on down!

chief has said we're changing tactics and formation so while we need options out front it won't necessarily be a like your life replacement
Atlético Goianiense look like a small club in Brazil's Serie A, sitting 19th of 20 teams. Play out of a 12,500 seater stadium. Maybe their wages ain't so high. Met a Brazilian guy at our local playground on the weekend after spotting his son in a Gremio (18th this season) top. See him again I'll ask about Atlético Goianiense. He had the usual rant about lots of corruption in Brazilian football. Pimping the national team around the world, for bucket loads of cash, but having them rarely play at home.
Chiefy after signing Rojas talked of trying to play more stylishly this new season. Might explain the rumoured interest in Baralhas. And then yeah Baralhas like Salas, might want to showcase his skills outside his home country.
Big part of why Mariners have been successful the last few seasons. Their quality recruitment of unheard of Latino players (mostly Brazilian) who have shone in the ALM.
Edit - oh and the Brazilian guy before coming to QLD, had lived in NZ for 15 years (Gisborne & Cromwell) and his son was born in NZ. Got assaulted by a gang member and decided to leave.
Wow, yet again all our best players are moving on. Its hard being a Nix fan sometimes.
I hope we can find decent replacements but it sure is looking grim at this stage. I haven't seen or heard of too many young kids coming through the academy recently which is a worry. At least last year there were Kelly Heald, Old, Paulsen etc.
Those kids moved on a year or 2 too soon imo but after a season like that it was bound to happen.
Bit worried about what we have in the pipeline now though...
It would surprise me zero if he showed up at Auckland FC. He wants to stay in NZ and would be a great signing.
Yeah this is what I thought as soon as I saw the news he's not re-signing.
You would imagine AFC would be his first choice as they likely have the money and it keeps him in NZ, but another Aussie club could also be attractive to him as it keeps him close.
So disappointing hes gone to another A-League club shows that he was keen to stay in this league rather than go back to Europe we should've just paid what he wanted tbh. He's a known quality A-League player so now we gotta dip into the volatile import market and hope we find another gem.
If we are going to bring in a brazilian (south american) visa replacement as speculated yesterday. We really need them here early, to settle in culturally. Bringing some like Salas in January just doesn't give them the time to adjust. The likes of Salas, Sandoval and Sasse could have all been very good quality A league players given time.
If the Nix want their visas to stay long term, then they should just stick solely to Brit imports. They are the only ones who consistently hang around.
But then again as the Mariners have shown last few years, you only need your Latino guys in for 1-2 seasons to win silverware. However yes get them in early, so they have time to settle.

we don't have the revenue that other clubs have, and with the substantial drop in tv deal we have to make hard decisions.
