Last time we played Adelaide. Yes we got thumped, but we actually played some pretty decent football at times. It was only our poor defence that let us down. If we can sort that. Who knows....

Yeah, defending very solidly is always going to keep us well in there in any match, it's really crucial.

So, while this is our record in Adelaide (unfortunately I've seen many thumpings live), like Ranix said, there are many positives from the past time we played in Adelaide.

Now that United are slightly out of form, it's a great opportunity for us to do something.

Then again, we say all this and then we lose 4-0, so, whatever happens happens 😛

Zawada to score a double hat trick, Scott Wootton to have the most dominant defensive performance in A-League history. Kraev to spontaneously regrow his man bun and regain the associated early season form.

After the game Nestory Irankunda will announce that he’s changed his mind and is turning down Bayern Munich to play for the Nix in 2023/24.

Adelaide will be nervous. They’ll know they got away with one last time against us. We’ve got to give them nothing easy all game and make it them that implode, not us.

Come on Phoenix!

The boys looked good at training yesterday. Very focussed. Even those whom are departing. What did surprise me is that some whom usually don't take shots during a game, were having a few themselves and I can tell you, some of them should be doing it during the games. We know Sam Sutton is capable, but there are a couple of others can hit a decent shot.

Good on them, I hope they spoil the party and go for the win. They have the potential.

Hopefully they have a few surprises up their sleeves. Certainly didn't embarrass themselves last time they were there (scoreline excluding) so hopefully they take confidence from last weeks ground out win. Getting more and more excited for this one. COYN!

Watching the highlights of the last time we played them was really encouraging minus the mistakes in the first half. Even if you include the first two goals we shouldn't have conceded we should've scored twice Sasse shot straight down the middle and Kosta open goal miss. That would've changed the way we went into half time and even when we conceded softly off the corner straight after half-time we would've still been in the game and we did get that pen straight after instead we were 3-1 down at that point chucking everything forward and got caught out due to that with their last two goals. We also didn't have Zawanda and Lewis for that game too. So I'm optimistic we could pull an upset but also won't be surprised if we crumble.

Our main issue against Adelaide is opening ourselves up to counter attacks with Adelaide having quite a few pacy players that can cause us issues.

I'm stunned by the positivity so far in this thread - I was half expecting it to be dominated by the usual naysayers, lambasting the team and explaining to us all that we'll get smashed and should give up now.

It's allowing the excitement of finals footy to build nicely with the hope of a home and away series against City!!! 2.5 days and counting!

We'll either score 5 goals or hit the post 4 times only scoring once - Zawada scoring that one of course (3 post hits from David Ball and 1 from Yan Sasse I reckon).

It is a weird one because we've obviously not been playing great leading into these finals but neither have Adelaide now. Looks like they'll be without 2 of their imports that played the last game against us (Clough and Ibusuki) and we'll have Lewis and Zawada. Their youth has been performing but they'll be relying on them a lot to show up in a finals game so maybe the pressure could get to those players.  I honestly think Adelaide is the finals game we'd most likely win out of them, WSW and CCM.

Adelaide hit the post and crossbar 4 times and Kosta redeems himself with xG 0.01 goal for a 1:0 win.

I'm feeling surprisingly excited about this one. I've been watching old highlights and random football content all week even (which is unlike me).

The late night matches in Victoria always give me some dread, but away to Adelaide (despite them having a cool stadium, and passionate fans) doesn't hold the same feeling.

Adelaides defence has been rubbish lately so I'm sure we will score goals - the key will be shutting down Goodwin (and Irankunda I guess, given the hype) so we conceed less. Goodwin's had a long season (played the WC break of course) and hasn't looked as sharp lately in the Adelaide games I've watched. I'm picking 3-1 to us with a huge team effort and Sail MOTM.

I’m not sure if I share the same optimism as people on here to be honest. We haven’t shown anything all year to suggest we can match teams like Adelaide and City in away games. Last time we played them, we had nice looking nice stats on paper, which is more concerning we lost 5-1 to be honest. While they haven’t been great either, they haven’t received drubbings like we have and only a few weeks ago beat wanderers on their home deck. The key is so to start well. If we concede early like we tend to there, it will be long night. The longer we hold on, the more of a chance we will be. Can not afford to do any silly mistakes like we have done all year, Goodwin and co will punish us. It will be one of those games I think were we hold on for a super narrow win with all hands on deck or a comfortable Adelaide win. I will be in attendance, and hopefully its a different result to last time we were there

You do have many good points and I'm probably overly optimistic (how else could I still be a fan after all these years), but to correct one point, they have received a Nix like drubbing - they lost 4-1 to Central Coast (their only goal in 90+3) just last friday! And despite drawing did conceed 4 the weekend prior at Perth too.

Are you sure about our record in Adelaide been worse? I had a quick look on https://www.ultimatealeague.com/ and we have a bad record vs Adelaide at Coopers (16/72 possible points, 4W 4D 16L) but a terrible and even worse one vs City/Victory/Western away (didn't work out exact numbers, but at a glance it looks like a clearly lower ppg) when filtering by AAMI/Marvel/Mooshead/Mars. At AAMI/Marvel combined for example we only have 3 wins in 43 matches!

TL;DR: Our record in Adelaide is better than Vic, reasons to be positive!

if we base it on AAMI park, which were nix mostly play, we have played 34 times, won 3 drew 11 lost 20. At Coopers, we have played 24 times, won 4, lost 4 & lost 16... They're both bad lets be honest

Yeah both are bad, but South Australia is slightly better :) Include Marvel (I edited my comment above before I read your reply) where Victory used to play and we are 3/43. Anyway, not trying to derail the thread, so I'll stop now. Still glad we are playing Adelaide rather than a team in Melbourne though!

Did they practise penalties?

Yes, but I have been asked not to say who. After that session, 3 coaches had some fun with a Goalkeeper and I can say Ufuk & Chiefy can take a mean as penalty too.

While Ufuk's ability at penalties does not surprise me (I remember watching him play for Nth Qld Fury when Robbie Fowler played there), I am surprised Chiefy could do that... no disrespect to him but clearly I have underestimated the skills learned during a law degree (although financial penalties are covered in there) :-)

Sail is a good pen stopper (so is Paulsen!) but if it goes to Pens I'd be very surprised if we win. Nothing would make me happier though than by winning in pens with Goodwin doing that stupid stutter runup and softly chipping it straight into Sail's arms.

So, uh, I just received a Members email with a discount code for tickets.

While I do appreciate the sentiment, tickets went live for General Admission Tuesday 6:30pm NZT, and I only received it 8am. You cannot wait on tickets in this state for good, undercover tickets (it gon' rain), they will go fast.

So... Thanks Nix, I guess 🤷‍♂️

All the teams in the A-League miss plenty of scoring opportunities, but yeah, we've got to make more of scoring chances, especially in the playoffs... but if we don't show the real urgency that's needed in defence our chances of winning this one is going to be very slim & none.
