I will be there. Keen to see James McGarry, I imagine he will be the main outlet forward from the backline with Tim Payne gone. So I'd best get re familiar with how he plays.

Bill Tuiloma posted pictures and yes, it was a Wests logo on an opponent shirt. I wonder if they are trialing more players?

Good to see Ben Trenberth get a run (and a goal!)

Looks like they gave a few of the other academy lads a run too - A few unfamiliar faces in there but managed to pick out Hayden Thomas, Luke Mitchell and a couple others that I didn't immediately recognise to go with several first teamers - Rufs, LKH, Gray, FRC, Hughes, Sheridan, Cassidy + OVH was along for the ride too. 🔎

Is this Callum Cooke btw anyone?

I probably could have done this check myself, but it was late, and I am lazy. 😆

Plenty of time to trial when he's suspended for asking a ref how much the opposition paid him

That’s a problem Pennington had in Italy. He was losing his rag and had committed an offense against a ref, iirc.

Players have to come to the A League for a reason. If Greenie says he’s not a dickhead, good enough for me.

At the least seems like a squad player with plenty of experience. At the best could be a diamond in the rough who’s well drilled and will do a job for us.

Perhaps as well he’s been told there are other contracts that might come through, but if he waits and nothing does, he’s back in the pro-game.

Who is our assistant coach? This seems like an important job for keeping the squad together and everyone happy.

Well said. Beggars can't be choosers and he's done extremely well with Rovers in Central League. In Greenie we trust!

They should sign him, and then move onto the 2 more foreign players. Maybe 1 attacking midfield, 1 defensive midfield.

Cooke will be filling one of those roles either DM or AM so whichever one he's signed for, we should sign the last 2 as a ST and the opposing midfielder position Cooke is signed for.

Depends on Kazuki Nagasawa too, he's 34 now. I'd prefer they get another attacking midfielder or they could regret it by January. Had Ramy Najjarine, Sander Kartum, Sarpreet Singh, GSR leave, must get at least 2 experienced replacements surely.

Yeah they all left but none were locked in starters and didnt play many games. Do agree they must bring in some players preferably with experience. Not desperate yet but would certainly hope they have someone locked in shortly or we are going to be starting another season with players having buggar all time together. That surely has to put them behind from the start.
Can see the noise increasing if the club dosnt start matching what they have done for the woman.

With the delay due to those 2 players that canceled I imagine they won't have the full set of 5 foreign players until middle of September most likely. No rush of course if they sign Dylan Gardiner/Ben Trenberth (if wanted) since they are already in the system, but the time is starting  to get short for the next 3 foreigners. Reno Piscopo? I know he's probably not got the endurance to play 26+ games now but maybe they will be forced by lack of available experienced Aus/NZ.

I think they’d anticipated LBS doing a lot of running this season! Luke and Kazu is a balanced attack. They need a bit more explosive pace or energy in that striker or ten to complement Nagasawa with Brooke-Smith gone.

Still missing perhaps 2/3rds of our goals. Unless Piper fills his boots and more!

Yes. I imagine a new starting attacking midfielder, foreign. Nathan Walker has energy/speed to help, but he is still a substitute level winger. Whoever is substitute for 34 year old Kazuki Nagasawa is ideally much younger than 34.

I like Walker too. Has been injured since scoring in that World Cup. Hope he’s part of the answer there.

Lets hope Walker can throw off his "made of glass" tag and really show us something. From what i hear early signs are promising

Really enjoyed watching him come through that 2nd season under Chiefy, was a nice surprise in his first game against Western United, up and down that left wing.

First injury was when a Brisbane player crashed into his leg in the Australia Cup qualifier. I try to separate something like that in match contact, from Nikola Mileusnic non contact frailty type stuff.

Walker, when fit, is class.  He's more of a front player in the 4-2-2-2 than a creative 10.  He has real gas and we need players that can put him through.  Expect him to get decent minutes this year if he stays fit.

Young player in their late teens can have injury problems they grow out of..hopefully he's grown out of his issues.  Would be great to see him in full flight this season.

Yes, he will. Don't want a "stuck in the mud" attacking player that dithers on the ball, cheap giveaways etc as some latter day Chief players had. Get out of there and run forward towards the end line. Maybe Cruz Peterson will be a next attacking junior next year.

Stumbled upon some images from last night's game v Wests.

If someone wants to tidy up the link and make it more concise, while also teaching me how to do the same, then that would be great too. 🙂

Here ya go:

https://lightroom.adobe.com/shares/5a37ed9f0cb9423eb0e4472d86d81956

Usually anything from the question mark onwards (the "query string" component of the URL) can be deleted because it's just passing extra tracking info back to the server (in this case I'm guessing the link is from Facebook because of the "?fbclid=..." part).

This isn't guaranteed to work because sometimes bits of the query string are actually used to select the destination page, so you'll always want to test your cleaned-up link (ideally using your browser's Incognito Mode or equivalent, to simulate a brand-new visitor to the site). It does work for Instagram reels, which have a "?ig..." query string that you can delete with impunity to deny Zuck a tiny bit of stalking.

Steve Coleman has returned to the club from overseas as "Lead Assistant Coach". Had a stint in the USL first with Loudoun United as assistant manager, then moved to Tampa Bay Rowdies, was assistant and then caretaker for 13 games. Previously involved with academy so will help with bedding in a few of the younger lads coming through. I expect that Luke Tongue will also remain involved in some way.

Pretty sure Luke Tongue is still there, think it was confirmed at the same time as Coleman

Just realised this is on at the same time as the Kate Sheppard cup final.  Tad annoying.

0:0. Closest the Phoenix got was an academy player but canceled for offside. Chances saved and
missed by Rafael Duran, Nathan Walker, Corban Piper. Ruthless wind through all match, zero shelter. Alby kicked the ball and it swirled back, Bill Tuiloma had to header the ball back to him.
