Yeah, it ruins the fun of goals. Even that Forest goal vs Man City in the EPL that Wood scored 2 weeks back.... lacked that instant joy as I (and possibly Chris himself) thought he was offside.
That was quite strange half of football. We did hit the post but basically we are two up from a keeping error and a very poor refereeing decision. We've been pinned down quite well by the Jets but they haven't really troubled us apart from one shot on goal.
Hopefully we look to put this to bed early in the 2nd half and not do our usual trick.
Zawada always the dude without his shirt on in the change rooms in the half time footage. Makes me question my sexuality tbh. Such a good looking dude, especially when he's banging in so many goals.
Players will appeal for anything and that horrendous decision is the reason they do. And if the ref, who would've seen that incident without any trouble, didn't see it instantly as an obvious handball then VAR should not be getting involved. In my opinion.
What a bizarre game of football. Horrendous watch but with the odd moment of almost greatness (see rufer) but boy am I glad for the 3 points. And keeping sotirio quiet, happy days. Nice to win ugly!

The Rufer thing was the one laugh out loud moment in an otherwise awful game. Awe inspiring spin and turn followed by him carefully passing it straight to a Jets player.
I watched MC v Adelaide last night. Great game, highly entertaining and consistently at a pace we sometimes get to. But largely didn't today.
I though we mostly controlled the first half without looking particularly dangerous. And got it in the box enough to create the goals. Well, just about often enough. A somewhat flattering lead. But WU looked pretty ordinary.
Second half they upped their tempo and press, Evans allowed them to dive in, manhandle and kick the heck out of us (we finally started retaliating with a bit of the same rubbish late). And we usually struggle to play when the opposition is playing Ausbiffball and the ref isn't protecting players. While our defensive strategy was to drop deep, close the lines and give them as much space and time as they could hope for. I hate it. While also getting caught out in transition by bad passing under pressure or a lousy dispossession tackle that the ref didn't call a foul.
We spend games with our good players getting mugged and then give the opposition a free ride. It's like Uffie is a double agent. An Aussie signed for us but actually working for the opposition. I jest. I think.
Anyway, just some somewhat flippant, thoughts.
Useful three points. Not convinced we're good enough to make a GF, but this was hopefully a doing it ugly game and actually, somewhat fortunately, getting the win. We'll need to be better.
So this season we’ve split the points with the Jets 3:3 and they have a +1 GD against us. Happy with the win today, but not with that head to head.
Also, the last time Zawada played a game without a goal involvement was November 6. Or almost 4 months.
He’s third on the goal scoring charts, right behind Cummings in second by a single goal. I personally wouldn’t mind at all if he belted in a couple of hatties before the end of the season to reel Maclaren in and propel us up the table.

Jets aren't a bad team, in this league anyone beats anyone on a given day.
When do the yellow cards reset? Zawada was my MOM, glad he didn't get one. Jets pressed us hard and played with a good plan against us.
"for the period commencing from the Player’s Club’s first A-League Match to the Player’s Club’s 21st A-League Match of the Regular Season, five (5) Yellow Cards equates to a Mandatory Match Suspension one (1) match suspension"

Oskas wife is due next Sunday, which I imagine will involve a week off, hopefully baby's a few days late and he can pick up a yellow next week to get through two absences in one match!

So what you're saying is that in about 16 years time there'll be a thread about a Polish kid who is eligible for NZ teams...

Typical dumb football organisation. So you get yellow in 1,4,7,18,20 you get suspended, but if you pick up yellows in 18,19,20,21,22,23,24 and 25 you get nothing. Football lawmakers are completely brainless. Better to have a system where a yellow card expires after say 10 or 12 matches, like driving demerits, but if you accumulate 5 ‘live’ ones you serve a suspension. Same should apply to tournaments. Yellow card expires 2 games after you get it. The whole idea of the suspension is to stop players doing YC offenses.

I believe how it works is after 21 games the yellow card suspension threshold changes from 5 to 8 yellow card. So your scenario above would lead to a suspension after 8 yellows. Correct me if I'm wrong.

No, that’s correct. But you can still go 7 for 7 if you do it at the right time of the season, which is just illogical.
