As concluded before Danaskos is a cheating cod still grieving that we gave Troy a contract. Two two feeters no ball to Old in 30seconds. Transitions prevented. One foul. No cards.
I think we were lucky not to have Ball sent off. Rufer’s one is harsh. Seems worse than it was and exacerbated by Hore diving and lying on the ground rather than play football.
We sealed this one out. Man I was sure Kosta was onside too. That looked like a great goal.
Played very well. What a season for the Academy production line. A hugely important win. Big ask for the Mariners this week to win two games in 4 days, and even if they did still only draw level with the Nix.
Spoonley says only 1 week suspension for Rufer. How far away are Payne & Hughes from a return? Back 3/5 against CCM?
What a battle, well done team. VAR was clearly trying to get someone sent off and I think rufers was defo the harsher of the two. Nervy but this team have balls of steel. Fudge yes! Can’t wait for the victory home game!
We are top of the league!!! 6 points ahead of CCM so the result against them is almost meaningless. MacArthur 5 points further back. Wasnt the most awe-inspiring performance but I think after the early goal Roar really stepped up defensively and made it difficult for us to push forward. their lack of anything really threatening up front is why they are down the bottom of the table. Paulsen made a couple of brilliant saves in the first half and a few moe in the second. Away game against CCM will be tough without Rufer, but this is the squad that can step up and do well without him. The ref is more to balme for that red, he should have stopped play as soon as the Roar player was holding the ball in his legs whilst on the ground. Not sure what Rufer is supposed to do, he got the ball but had nowhere to put his foot afterwards.
Where was Rojas? did he get injured in the last game?

CCM have a game in hand (played 22 v our 23) which they are playing Tuesday v City. If they win that they'll be 3 behind us, meaning they'll jump ahead of us (on the games won tiebreaker) if they beat us next weekend.

This always surprises me that he is allowed to be a ref for wellington games.
Not a great performance, but still deserved the points. Definitely missed Payne, Salas doesn't seem quite comfortable at RB just yet although had his moments, loved the chase back slide tackle in the middle of pitch but hated his defensive combinations with Al-Taay. Surman was left one on one too often but covered them nicely, he, Wootton, Sutton and Paulsen all had massive games and Sheridan looked good in his minutes too.
A bit disjointed going forward and not enough chances created but we did enough and Brisbane never really seemed to create much at all. I thought the VAR call on the Barbarouses goal was harsh but probably balances out Old the other week. Ball got away with one but I'll never understand how anyone thinks Rufer deserves red for that. If anything the Brisbane player should be penalised for the obstruction before Rufer steps on him in the process of playing the ball.
CCM will be tough without Rufer, hope Payne & Hughes are a chance so we can go to the back 5 with a combo of Pennington/Al-Taay/Salas in the middle.

True, but I'm picking City to beat CCM, especially after the loss to Sydney. Not expecting us to lose to CCM either, minimum will be a draw.

Is he confirmed as a relation to Troy? I saw the question asked on a previous thread but never answered

Tbf we need to take it completely out of the refs control by scoring a third and fourth. He’s not the worst. Imo that’s Alex King.
But yeh that first game when Risdon just got away with everything will remain in the memory a while.

Not sure - we will be missing a few and they are an exceptional team on their day. Considering how the table is looking, I'd take a draw (esp if they fail to win midweek)
For CCM, I reckon they will now have ranked their ambitions for rest of the season as follows -
1. Finish 1st or minimum 2nd (if Nix are 1st) in the ALM regular season, as that will give then Australia's spot in the new AFC Elite Champions League setup. This new Champions League structure has alot more (Saudi?) cash floating around
2. Qualify for AFC Cup final ($US750K) or even better win it (US1.5M)
3. Win the ALM Grand Final - which comes with a cheque for zero dollars
I think is some chance, Mariners will throw everything now at trying to beat both Melb City & Nix this week at home. They do that they are a very good chance of finishing at worst 2nd on the ladder.
After the Nix they have a week off before Western United in Melbourne. But only 4 days after WU they have their big first leg, AFC Cup semi in Kyrgyzstan - a very long travel haul. They could play a weakened team against the Bitumens as the Kyrgyz game is very very important.
So again I see them coming hard at the Nix, and Chiefy going 3/5 at the back in response. Aiming for a draw, or sneak a win. Old & OVH to come on against some tired CCM legs hopefully. That's also with important players Zawada, Rufer & Payne likely all out. Even Hughes is now a first 11 pick when the Nix play back 3/5 on the road. So Nix maybe without 4 starters (not that Zawada has played much this season)
Nerve-wracking but fun in the crowd. Great drumming Patrick! Good voice YF! My player of the day was Sutts. A couple of crucial defensive contributions and exciting on the attack.
Man what a game, very fun in attendance. Paulson is a beast man dude really deserves a chant lmao (don't ask me for ideas I'm not creative). thought Kosta was on side but at least we won regardless
btw just wondering as a new fan, how come the yellow fever stands so far back instead of right up to the pitch?
