Not gonna lie. That first goal made me think it was gonna be a rough second game to an amazing first game.

But boom!  A fudgeing thrashing.  Looooving it!  What a day to be a Nix fan.

Excellent performance by the whole team. Must have been one of Alex Rufer’s best ever games from the Phoenix.

Had to leave just before the fifth, but in my few (6) years of watching the nix, that was probably my most favourite game live. The period in the second half where the lads played it around the back, under pressure, reminded me a lot of the Japanese women’s team. Didn’t feel stressed, for some reason felt they had it under control, and they did. Was brilliant to see. And seeing kraev smilin again, kosta playing like he has the confidence again. Yes, lads, what a fudgeing win.

I could write a book on that performance. Amazing game, a credit to both sides.
Brisbane looked awesome in the first half, I though they may well give us a hiding. So to come back and win like that is just sensational. Paulson kicks the ball so well, it was a key part of our performance. We tried to play much the same way as last week but did it much better today - quite happy to play a few tight passes at the back , and then hit long as soon as we get free. I like it. Zawada was incredible as target man for that approach.  A really enjoyable game to watch, and to come out so far on top of Brisbane is fantastic, they looked really dangerous and always in it until we got the 4th goal. A disastrous backpass from Brisbane was key, but we punished them severely for it

Bar the first-minute injury in the women's game and conceding a first-minute goal in the men's, that was a brilliant day's entertainment for less than $40.

It's my first year season living in Wellington, and if we keep up that kind of form and entertaining style of play I'll be there with bells on; week in, week out.

I really loved the big switches of play, usually by Rufer to Payne or K- H. It balances out all the short passing very nicely. Also, Zawada receiving the ball superbly and laying it off to the runners opened up so much space. Great team play.

Hopefully that performance will bring in a few more next time out. I would be a bit more worried if it was still sitting in the low 6,000's.

Fair play to Brisbane though for coming out and playing their part. Came to play, and like us, they're going through a bit of a rebuild and changing things up after a pretty stale spell playing moonball.

They were a lot better than what a 5-2 loss probably indicates.

What was the atmos like at the game? We are building and playing good footy, surely we can creep back to 10k if the weather does the right thing. Maybe a little but unlucky with so much sport on at the same time tonight (league, black caps, rugby). ‘Busy watching everything on TV’ may have keep a few people on the couch.

Love the concept of a double header with the women’s match. I hope they can draw 2k in Porirua next week and get a bit of a buzz going about them. Some of the goals they’ve been scoring have been eye popping. And Edwards the keeper - what a star!

Atmosphere was decent, there were some tense quiet patches but you're gonna get that with any game.
Rufer was asking the YF for more as he walked off at half time.

The better the game the more distracted people are watching the football.

I remember many a boring game where I insane amounts of fun in the zone.

Yeah. Atmosphere felt decent and the Fever relaxed a bit once we got ahead in the second half - definitely a bit nervy after the first goal.

7k was +1k from last week, and you could tell. So that was great. The kind of performances we have seen the last couple weeks, and winning like we did yesterday is the best way to bring the fans back, and get back to those pre-covid numbers. Long may it continue.

There is definitely some resolve in this squad. 💪

25th April 2021 was the last time we came from behind to win a match. Honestly it felt like much longer than that, we didn't do it much under Uffie.

Aloisi not a happy man afterwards, anyone see that interview? Ha ha. Ok they gave a goal or two away very sloppily, but he was quite damning of his team, and I wouldnt find him an inspirational leader I dont think!

Great result on a fine day.
I really like that we play consistent football in both halves. I'm happy that those slow start into a season must be not the default and I hope we keep going and the won't be any mid season crisis.
I was a big critique of Payne over the last seasons, looks like since his partner in crime is gone he's coming into his prime.
Kraev's goal was fantastic, a confident precise left footer.
Finally a Hattrick for Zawada and what a superb assist from Kelly-Heald, he had Mileusnic pretty much in his pocket.

Bit of a worry. A few years ago the opening games used to pull in 8-10k

Is the cost of living crisis biting? The woman's world cup has definitely done nothing for the A-League

Notable in the after match presser from Zawada. Him pointing out that in this game we continued to press for goals after getting the lead. (That obviously helped in him getting his hatty) Perhaps finally a shift in attitude to the previous seasons.
Not surprising really that last year he never got more than one goal a game when you think how often we reverted to a defensive block and giving away the momentum after going into the lead in games. Not sure this was the coaches intent or a bit of a mental thing.
Turning point for this team perhaps.

Also very interesting he said in the press conference (on YouTube) that he thought Lucas was not playing in his best position - I'm assuming Zawada sees him as more of a centre back?

Zawada was so complementary of the team though! He was complementary last season but I think way more positive this season! A big switch in mindset for the players I think. Uffie may have gotten frustrated during last season and that was probably shown on the pitch with some of the negative football we watched.

Also the end of the presser was quite funny! Well worth a look :D

Onwards to Melbourne Victory! A draw would be a win for us I'd say. If we win though we start to look like a top 4 or even top 2 chance this season.... Huge game!

A perfect hatty as well. Left foot, head then right foot.

3 news might even run a story this week.

Not just football that suffering with crowd numbers though  look at  the recent Womens Rugby Tournament here and even the League Test against the Aussies was poorly attended. Just hope those in power at the Nix take note and dont come out swinging at fans for not attending games as they have done in many past seasons.

I did not renew my membership this year because of the draw.  I am heavily involved in a summer sport and unless it rains, I cannot make a 5.30 kick off on a Saturday and there are a fair few of those in the schedule.  There may be others who are in the same boat.  It is a great shame and i remain a devoted fan. But i am not going to throw away my cash when I cannot go to the majority of games.  For the first time since 2007 i have to rely on my Sky subscription.  I will go to games I can paying cash at the gate.  That could include some of those Saturdays where my commitments are completed on the day on time.

Don't think they can ever satisfy everybody, they have tried a number of combinations of tines over the years. No time has stood out over others think I heard Domey say that this year's draw is based partly on qhat came in from the end of season fan survey.
Have always maintained consistent results and performances will have a bigger influence on attendances than timing. I'm also not saying just streaks of 2/3/4 games either. Do that and people will find ways to get to games.

The biggest issue we have now is that after two home games in Wellington we effectively have 3 games away up next with :
Victory at Melbourne
City at Go Media (Auckland)
WU at Melbourne
Ends up being a month since we've had football in Wellington, which kills any momentum, especially if we lose.

Probably should have clarified it was the combined table.

Personally I find the concept a little cringe, but if we're up top then I'm all about it. 😆

Someone else more in the know could maybe tell me if there is a trophy for this combined championship come seasons end?
