I was wondering if the time the games are on contributes a little bit to the numbers I know they're wanting to do it early to encourage families. But surely 5pm kick-off would still suit and be better for others because I know a few ppl that are either busy in the middle of the day or working.

Seems like the announcer did a bit of prep before the game, and learnt the players names. It made a big difference. Credit where credit is due.

Loved the Freed from Desire chant. "Ben Waine's on fire, your defence is terrified". Absolute classic.

Whoever does the half time stuff (is it the same guy?) Said the charity jersey was giving $20 to charity (it's 10) and you could buy it at the merch stand (you couldn't you have to pre-order online).

I know it's nitpicky, but I was listening in to get the actual info and was like man I learned the jersey existed 50 mins ago and I got my head around these facts faster.

The families is what they are hoping drives more ticket sales.

If you travel from out of wellington it gives you time to get home to the Wairarapa or up Kapiti, and for families it gives them time to get home and have a bed time routine.

There are dedicated peps that come no matter what, when I lived in Masterton I drove home Sunday nights after 7PM and still had to catch a 6AM train back to town for work the next morning.

But I was in the minority, they are trying to find a way to motivate the majority.

And I think it’s fair, they’ve also openly admitted they’ve a lot to do to reconnect with the community. Need to do it all again and hopefully with a team performing, it’ll make that job easier.

But, there's summer sport and you're competing with barbecues and going to the beach.

I guess time will tell, but I'm not convinced all these 3pm kick offs are a good thing, I know I'm struggling to get to them all.

You're not wrong.

I'm glad they are trying something new, and I am enjoying seeing the game at that time, but I might struggle with a couple too.

I missed watching the match live and just caught up on the extended highlights. We scored some nice goals but this one inparticular my first thought was 'wow, nearly all players would try and have a shot there, yet he plays the perfect pass for a tap in instead'. His natural instinct is what's the best way for the team to score, and it's usually right. This isn't the first time I can remember he's avoided a 60-70% chance of scoring and getting the personal glory, for a 80-90%+ chance at a tap in for a teammate.  Legend.

what a fudgeing game! Was super pumped with the lineup to star, Uffie is sending all kinds of "shape up" messages with this! Slow start, but we built nicely., Old's goal was superb. The one we conceeded as soon as the blonde fudgewit came u=on was just typical noix defending and largely Sail hesitating again! There still room for improvement in the back but I think Laws and Wootton did a great job! The second half was brilliant, the subs came on and all made an impact, Ball as always brilliant, Waine too.
Uffie has clearly spoke to Lewis and Ugarkiciv to clarify their jobs in defense, both worked very hard. Kraev and Zawada got back when needed to defend well. whilst he didnt score I though Zawada created space and chances for other players.
This result has been coming, the lads have played together for a month of a-leagu games and are now developing combos - it's all on now!!!

totally disagree, she did a great job, was very good on the repeated fouling stamped it out well, the Macarthur players were the issue, every call she made they went to the good old "charge the ref" - which the wouldnt have done if it was a guy.

Context is important re crowds. There is always a drop off after the first game.
2019/20 season
Game 1 - 8,254
Game 2 - 6,054
Game 3 - 6,790

2022/23 season
Game 1 - 8,325
Game 2 - 7,089
Game 3 - 6,135

That was Uffie's first season.  Along with having an unfit Gary Hooper when he first arrived, we had zero points after the first four games.  Then went on a decent unbeaten run

Correct.  I had cricket commitments yesterday and could not go.  5.00 k.o and I could have made it for the 2nd half.  Recorded it on Sky and watched that on getting home, so still had the "live" experience

I know he's the hometown boy and everyone wants big things for him but I really do like the use of Ben Waine as an impact sub. He's getting results. There's enough healthy competition and depth up front, but I'm not too cut if he's not starting. I'm really  liking these bursts where he comes on later in the game and can seal the deal. Will do wonders for his confidence and will he'll develop and build up his composure in front of the goal.

I think it is gonna be horses for courses this season. Uskok is almost 2m tall, so I reckon Uffie went with Zawada to try and negate that height advantage. For once we have the attacking depth, Uffie can actually adjust the front line based on the tactics he wants to play that match.

We have always been traditionally slow starters.  Wish we weren't but it is what it is.

What I do like about this season's squad is the now clear fight for places.  Two of Lewis/Ugarkovic/Pennington.  Then add Rufer to that mix at well. Then Waine/Ball/Kraev/Zwada/Old/Barbarouses  even van Hattum in the higher up the park areas.  What Uffie does have is players needing to be hungry to get their place.  Then also hungry players coming on as subs.  We have seen it two games in a row now.  Players that are quality starting players coming on from the bench early in the second half as opposition starts to tire and making instant impact.  Uffie also has the option too of changing formations with substitutes.  He standard set up is  4 2 2 2 but after the subs at 1-1 yesterday it looked more like a 4 3 3.

I thgink it looks really exciting for us.  I do pray that the World Cup break is not a bad thing for us

The benefit of having much better depth this season will be massive.

In the last couple of years, Uffie often didn't make subs till the dying stages of the game, and almost never made wholesale changes to the lineup. Both of these have changed this season already, which says a lot about depth and the confidence Uffie has in the squad.

With depth across midfield and attack, we will be better able to manage player workloads/injuries with a strong bench too.

On another note, the more our attack is firing like it did yesterday, the less pressure there is on our defence. Once we got ahead 2-1 yesterday, we didn't make a single mistake at the back (At least that I can remember..). Obviously we are still prone to mistakes at the back regardless, but those fragilities are much more obvious when we are in tight situations. Hopefully as our attack grows in confidence it releases some of the pressure on the defence, which can only be a good thing for the confidence of the back four.

Thought she was poor - but no worse than the usual refs we get... just different in the fact that instead of been over zealous like some refs, she seemed to miss too much.

She spoke to Arzani about diving, so saw it. Should have been a yellow. Didn't give Laws one in the second half when he committed a blantant foul to stop what would have been a very dangerous counter in our half.

Old got clattered and she played on almost resulting in a goal against us (woud VAR have changed it??).

at least she spoke to Arzani, most current a-league refs would have given the penalty and red carded the defender.
yeah she missed a couple of fouls - and played on, but  no more than others.

The understanding of what makes a good referee among the average fan is somewhere between abysmal and non- existent.
Nonmag's comment exemplifies this.
They only notice the referee a few times per 90 minutes and only see one side fouling.
Almost none have ever even read the laws of the game, much less know them.

Lots of horrible sexist remarks on twitter as well, seems like if you're a female ref you have to be twice as good as a male one.

On another note, it's interesting that Ufuk is changing the starting lineup so much. He hasn't traditionally done it, and in fact he's said in the past that his philosophy is to get the same team on the park as much as possible, even if they're not performing, because game time is required to get the team gelling and get the understanding between players.

Along with drastic changes in formation last season (brought on by the injury crises) this is showing his continued evolution as a coach.

If we didn't drop the points vs Adelaide with that last minute goal, we would be 3rd right now. So I don't think we have started slow this season, however the months break is gonna be hard to restart from if we don't head over for some friendlies.

To be fair, I would have called any ref on Earth who saw Arzani's dive, acknowledged it and didn't yellow card it appalling (especially during a game). Although, perhaps my understanding of the simulation rules is somewhere between abysmal and non-existent, so I'm probably wrong.

So for me, I don't see how the referee could only have a talk to Arzani and not book him here if you thought he had dived https://streamable.com/u1sm9a
Overall though, I don't think she was a bad referee to have. Always helps when you win but I don't think there was really much else to question apart from the Kurto call as well.

As for the goals, well I think all of them were beauties in different ways.

I was wondering if the time the games are on contributes a little bit to the numbers I know they're wanting to do it early to encourage families. But surely 5pm kick-off would still suit and be better for others because I know a few ppl that are either busy in the middle of the day or working.

I drive down from Palmerston North for games so the 3pm kick off on a Sunday suits me. I can be back in Palmy by 7pm and its still daylight.
As for the food and drink. I never buy any from the stadium. Have lunch and then have something afterwards somewhere a lot cheaper. If I was at home, I wouldn't be going out to buy chips and a burger at 3pm.
Parking price is ridiculous though. I don't park at the stadium purely because of that but I would if it was $10-$20. I'm sure they would get more people parking there as well = more dollars.
