Still a couple weeks away but I thought I would start the thread now to remind people about the 15th Nov deadline to redeem their season passes for the match.

Wowsers. I hope people come up for the March game. We will struggle to make an atmosphere next weekend. Last year our home against against sydney the fever zone was taken up by warriors fans chanting Ole, ole ole ole, Phoenix the whole game. At least they were into it.
Unlikely. Flights were looking about $300 return when they announced Auckland and it's only gone up.
This could be a good measure of how much support an Auckland based side could produce without a lot of Wellingtonians up there. Too expensive right now with airfares and driving up is also expensive.

But only a small % of the crowds at previous Nix games in Auckland, would have been travelling fans from the Welly region. Even with the 2-3 games the last few years at EP that have attracted 20,000 plus, only a few hundred max of the crowd would have travelled up from Wgtn?? The vast majority would have been football fans from Auckland and nearby, just keen to watch some ALM football.
Of course not all the crowds at EP have been 20,000 plus (certainly not last season), but if the attendance in Penrose is small that will be related to factors like -
current tough cost of living even for JAFAs, lack of real star quality with this Nix squad, weather on the day, and maybe just that Eden Park is a more attractive venue for some Aucklanders than Mt Smart. I'm sure those involved with the new Auckland franchise will be watching with interest.
I have my air ticket and accommodation booked. I have never been to the stadium. Anyone got info on the likely hostelry for Nix fans who make their way up from Welly?

The lilyworld bar out the back of the stadium is fantastic. About a 90 second walk from the back of the west stand
Can anyone who goes to Mt Smart more regularly than I do confirm whether there's bike racks or even secure bike storage there?
I've been once - not sure about the bike racks. If no one here knows try the warriors forum, they're a nice bunch.
I'd maybe warn against biking though, not sure how accessible it is. The roads in are big main highways & industrial roads, not sure if i saw any bike tracks...

I've never seen bike racks or anyone biking before/after a game. I tried a quick google and apparently there were some for the Harry Styles concert earlier this year, but unsure if that's permanent or not. As mentioned, not a great place to be biking.. Trains are handy to Mt Smart though
Cycling is our family's main form of transport (big electric cargo bike, fits 2 kids and a bunch of groceries), so going on main roads doesn't faze us. All we need to know is whether there's a bike rack to tie the thing up outside (with our heavy-duty locks). I don't want to trust Auckland trains, lol.
Is it five we have in the All Whites squad playing Ireland?
Paulsen Payne Rufer Costa Old
Is that all?
Even if they dont play, they are still there facing the trip back. Game is Wednesday morning NZ time. Probably Friday morning before they get back into Auckland, Thursday night at best.
They are all currently starters and will be jet lagged. Do they start and see how long they last, off come off the bench? Especially Paulsen.
I believe that City also have an AFC Champions League clash in Japan only four days after this Auckland match and suspect that things are coming down to the wire for them in terms of making it out of the group after losing to Papas' Buriram United at home.
Makes you wonder if any key players – especially Behich and/or Maclaren – might skip the trip to New Zealand altogether.

Yipe City play Michael Woud's Ventforet Kofu in Japan next Wednesday 29th, and it is a very important ACL match for City.
Maclaren (age 30) & Behich (32) are with the Socceroos in Kuwait, who play Palestine late tomorrow night. Big ask then to fly Kuwait-NZ-Japan for 3 games of football in 6 days. Plus they have just flown to Kuwait from Aussie. They did both just play half a game against Bangladesh. An emotional Palestine will be tougher you think, so Arnie will roll out a 1st choice starting 11.
Win fantastic, Draw id be happy with that I can stomach a defeat,so As long as we don’t get bent over and score blows out like it has in recent years against citeh, and we fight for the entire 90 minutes, not just park the bus and pray mcclaren doesn’t get the ball whilst left unmarked, then I think we should be alright COYN

No one will be left unmarked, though it'll be zonal, tactical marking. Runs will be tracked, no mistakes like the one against Victory (that will not happen again). If it's necessary to "park the bus" then that's what we'll do. Hit them on the break. 3-0 to us.
Not subject to luck. But subject to fair and intelligent refereeing.

We are the best team in the league.
Holy shark are you a new person this season? Did you start taking opioids in the off season? Please tell me your secret.
Honestly though your relentless positivity is making me believe a little bit but I still remain a sceptic for the most part. If we can develop our offence significantly more as the season wears on I'd say we have a chance then.

Opioids No. But plenty of Brandy.
I am very positive. I guess that it is Adam Griffiths who has introduced the tactical defence. But Chiefy clearly knows what he wants and brought in the right assistant. And I know the goals are coming.
There are no opponents in the A-League that will work their way through our defence easily. And we've just started, we'll significantly improve.
I will be very disappointed if we don't win the league. But our squad lacks depth. So injuries will cost us dearly.

Thanks for your insight mate, agree with you re the depth issue. Maybe a signing or two in the January window may help? I hear there will be a signing tomorrow (unsure if contract extension or signing outside of the club).
As always I'm looking forward to your assessment of Penningtons performance after this match, cheers.
Tim Payne playing a full 90 today for the AWs. Won’t get back until Friday NZ time at least. Defenitely won’t be starting on Saturday. Al-Taay into right back and Old starting in midfield?

Seems like the obvious call to make.
Will be interesting to see if Surman starts as well given the travel time, but he hasn't had the same minutes. I'm not opposed to seeing LKH in his more natural position for a game as I'm expecting Sutton to displace him at LB now that he's fit.
Have to imagine AP keeps his place, not the same physical demands required from him on the pitch so probably the least affected by the travel.
