Given where the ref was standing, I don't know how he thought ball committed a high foot foul there. Straight on ball was clearly on the ball first and there was a bit of space between him and defender
Pretty much this... If this was our number 1 line up and the owners wouldn't spend more than this lot, sure. But this is is 4th game in 11 days or something like that, several players out to injuries including most of the midfield and strikers, multiple people out with Covid... It's hardly surprising if we lose.
(edit - not saying you are a fairweather fan, based on your other comments you are not - just that now is a time the team needs support)
Nothing wrong with the ref so far... problem is with us.
No? He’s not operating with the same standard. He’s warned Louis Fenton- although the only proper foul was against him as he was away up the left. We haven’t been great, but the high boot and two or three soft fouls haven’t helped us for sure.
That chance came from a very simple Pennington turn over. There is very little quality in our side atm. Fortunately, it means I can both go to bed early and save money on tickets and fuel and avoid the Auckland game I was thinking of travelling to.
Fair weather fan then? Now is the time to support the team, not abandon them.

The issue is the club needs the fairweather fans to go. The diehards are a drop in the bucket, history has proven the diehards don't cover the costs. If I'm hesitant to drive to Auckland to watch this game than I'd imagine the fairweather fans in Auckland will be giving this a wide berth. I feel sorry for the owners and the club and I really think that even the players on the pitch should be playing better than they are. That is the bit that gets me.
wonder why morale might be a bit low for the nix lads at the moment? not playing in front of your home crowd might have something to do with that, maybe?
Weird vibe in here tonight from posters. It’s been a tough couple of games (and seasons) but I don’t see how it makes it any easier if we pile on each other in here.
think we are all tired of not having the team here to support, I for one am tired of the unfair negativity by some. Yes the team is struggling right now, there is a myriad of reasons why, some of them performance related and should be fixed, others have been well outside of the cubs and players hands.
if it was as easy as just "playing better" then I'm sure we'd have done that and be winning the league.
you do know how to turn the telly and PC off right?
Do you deny it?
tell ya what, when you've been here for 15 years you'll know when you've seen poor. A couple of poor performances does not make the team crap, or poor.

Only 9 years here and i have seen some really poor too.

it annoys me ALOT when those that appear to be new to the nix complain about the team being poor, when all they've really got to go on is the current and maybe last season. That data set is so much better than we have been in past years.

I'm fine to watch the nix even in a bad season. I've travelled to plenty of games and watched bad nix sides. But at the end of the day the phoenix are an entertainment product, the current team with all of the injuries is not a great product. I'll decide in the week prior depending on if the team has some players back. It would be a different story if I lived in one of the cities that was hosting a game, but I won't pay to travel 2 hours each way, parking etc to watch the team that is on the pitch today. I don't think that is unreasonable.
Think most on here are long suffering! Hoping this game is going to be a reverse of the last game and we win the second half 5-0…
Yeah, remember the bad old Ricki days (he had lots of good ones too, I'm not knocking him) when we were so poor there was genuine concern that we were going to get thrown out of the league. Nearly were too.
This is disappointing but nothing like as horrible as its been in the past.

Been a phoenix supporter since day one and held a membership as long as I have worked. You don't hold the monopoly on being a supporter like you seem to think.
They're playing very poor relative to everything else under Talay. That's not an unfair criticism.

This team has played 4 games in 11 days with very little rotation and they have another game in 4 days. They're done, I can't see them winning games until they get a break.

Hopefully I'm wrong.
Think you're bang on the money there. The performances won't improve until the players get a break, this is simply too much football for them with no rotation. Really hope they can turn it around.
Even Uffie looks and sounds a bit subdued tonight. Hopefully he can rouse the boys in the sheds. Need a big lift second half and a bit of magic from Piscopo and Sotirio if we can manage to stay in the game until they come on.

Yeah we've got the rough end of the stick on so many things with COVID disruptions. Probably the toughest times the team has had to deal with in the Phoenix's entire history when you think about it. Basically 2 years away from home now. Big respect to the Phoenix owners and management for keeping the wheels turning even though the road seems permanently uphill.
Been here as long as anyone... my profile only says 9 years because I had to get a new one (didn't work when I was overseas).
This is as bad as I remember it, mainly because I don't see the tide turning anytime soon. No Rufer, No Lewis, No Hooper and no chance to bring in any much needed quality.
Look at our bench, it's a bunch of kids and a semi fit Piscopo who has been underwhelming this season. Who in our starting line up would start for the Mariners currently... Sail, Payne and Wooton... maybe Sandoval. And we are talking CCM here, not Sydney or one of the Melbourne Teams.
I'm negative, because I'm disappointed. I'm disappointed because I am passionate.

Good to see the fans feeling it. We're all looking for better. But It's been a lot worse. We've played this bad AND been likely to loose our spot in the League with half of Aus keen to be rid of us. We've played like this AND been late paying players. And potentially folding w/o an owner able to fund the side.
These guys are doing it hard. Fatigued, illness, over hectic schedule, missing starters. Permanently away from home.

2015 - 2018 were worse, the team wasn't winning and it didn't seem like it had a future. The problems this team faces are completely out of their control, the team itself is competitive and the club has the foundations for success.
Thought Elliot has made some good forward runs. I'd prefer to see Sutton back at LB. Old has had a run of starts, he really needs to be doing better if he wants to continue at this level.
No team would be expected to get results in our situation, for reasons that have already been mentioned. It was always going to be another tough season away from home. And yet, credit to the club and team, we're still higher up the table than some other teams
That's the second time Wooton and Sail have got their communication all wrong. Both times should've been easy pickups by Sail but smashed away by Wooton into touch instead.
yeah we have been much worse than we are now and with less reasons. Those suggesting some rest and rotation to the starters - I ask you with who? We literally had to fly two academy guys in over the weekend so we could have a full bench. Due to COVID and injuries we are at bare bones levels, and we are at the point of having to play stupid amounts of games in a matter of weeks. It couldnt be a worse situation for the team.
