Playing the Snakes this Sunday who have so far only gained 1 point and coming off back to back 4-2 losses. Hopefully we can add to their misery and keep the scoring going.
p[lay like we did on Sunday and we should drill several past the snakes defence, they've conceded 12 goals in 4 games, drawing 1 of them against Macarthur,
One question about snake FC - Do we still dislike them for what was essentially mainly Rudan taking our players? Or is there something else that Western United did that we don't like?
I personally don't like them because of the Rudan stuff plus the fact that I don't think they should exist in the first place. Dumb name, no fanbase, no catchment area, no ground (despite being granted a license on the premise that they would have one), and took a place in the league that should have gone to the Wolves (or Canberra). I feel similarly about MacArthur, although they're not quite as bad.
Overall I just get a weird vibe from Western, them and the Bulls make the league look bad.
well they joined the league, took our manager who said he'd never leave us until the end of his contract, then he proceeded to take our keeper, captain and up and coming midfielder with him as he left us with a month or two before season ending.
I've watched their last two games and they are going to be tougher than some give them credit. They were all over the opposition for vast amounts in their last game. 4 shots, 4 goals, yet WU were outplaying them . It was just one of those games where they played well enough but conceded good goals. Be very wary of them. Complacency will burn the Nix.
Yet those idiots have won more titles than we have in 3 years in existence.. how horrible is that.. jokes on us? For me, it’s all what happens on the pitch that counts, they’ve won a title pretty quickly and deserve to be in this league and I hope they continue to grow and attract fans. Living in Melbourne, they do plenty of great work in areas where AFL is dominate and have a family friendly atmosphere in their games with many kids, their players are approachable and Alino Diamanti is truly a wonderful human being if you meet him, despite the fact he can be a bit of cod on field, I’m not sure what the hate for them is from nix and other fan bases.. to me it’s weird.. if anyone deserves ridicule it’s Melbourne City, who before being purchased by the city group had 0 identity and still suffer from it..
We really should be beating Western if we want to have hopes of being in top 4 contentions. I predicted they'd have a not-great season this year after winning it they added very old players to an already old squad. Diamanti is washed now and Prijovic has been shut out? He was probably one of the most important players and Lacroix looking like a shadow of the player last season. I predict another big win tbh.

they worked with our coach while he was still employed with us, while Rudan was a snake, they also knew he was actively contracted to another team.

Worst named team in the league and they've got no identity, thats reason enough to not like them.
They actually have a large catchment area. That new shiny stadium is what they need, to tap into that.
Playing in Geelong (on a large AFL Ground), Ballarat or AAMI Park basically makes them a homeless roadshow.
But yeah hopefully going forward no more new franchise teams in Sydney & Melbs.
What’s the deal with beer at the stadium? At the CCM game it was only cans? Is that still the case?
Yes, at a healthy $12.50 per can.
Have they said why the taps are off? If it’s a sustainability thing, ok, I get that, but the selection was woeful. Worst I’d ever had at the stadium. On par with the offerings at the rugby.
Does Kāpura / Fortune Favours not sponsor the Nix anymore? Not that I particularly mind Emersons
Shame they don't have a local beer, now that they're based in Upper Hutt maybe they can get Panhead or Boneface or someone out that way to sponsor them and bring in more variety

Lion owns Emersons and Panhead these days I believe.
Western will be fired up for this one, but I'm confident the boys will be more than up for the challenge given our finals defeat to them to end our campaign last time out. Love nothing more than smashing the snakes, so I think we'll be in for a good showing from the lads.
More than anything I'm looking forward to the Kiwi contingent carrying on their impressive form against a struggling outfit. Going out and being assertive from the get go and grab an early goal or two and they'll be chasing shadows all afternoon. We've got goals in us this season and we look a real threat in that final third. I would like though if we could show a bit more defensive solidity in our play. I'd love to see a clean sheet too.
For all the plaudits and headlines that Waineo has been grabbing, and with Old coming along nicely with his play I expect to see them contribute positively again for us. In saying that though, I think Sam Sutton has been bloody fantastic so far this season, he's flown under the radar a lot more than the others, but he looks supremely confident thus far and seems to be building a positive link-up with Kraev down that left hand side. Already nabbed a goal and a couple of nice assists too, all in our last three games - loving the fact they've listed him as a midfielder on fantasy as well. 👀
Early doors for picking a result, but going 3-0 for the boys. Big performance before the break please!

According to the Kiwi Football Fix show, Phoenix Reserves were playing Wellington Olympic at 12pm as a curtain raiser. This is in fact incorrect, they are playing at Fraser Park
Really seems like Aloisi has lost the dressing room at Western United all their star players unhappy gotta trickle over to the other players too and still starting players past their best like Troisi and Topor Stanley I'm feeling confident of a big win this weekend. In saying that it'd be typical for us to lose this one.
Further to this, it's believed that Aleksandar Prijović's desire to leave Western United stemmed from a rift with assistant coach Hayden Foxe. Prijović, Léo Lacroix and and captain Alessandro Diamanti are all believed to be unhappy at Western United, for various reasons. https://t.co/3ZYfKj0E1j
Despite losing 4-2 last weekend. I thought WU still looked pretty dangerous in possession especially when Diamanti came on. And I am still not convinced by our defence, thought we were a tad lucky last weekend. Could have easily been two down after 10 minutes. I think we can win it if we can tighten up at the back. We seem to grow into games, which is fine as long as we are not chasing games where the opposition sit back in a defensive block.. Laws might also be in doubt after going off with concussion symptoms on Sunday. But encouraging to see Sail make some good saves last Sunday.

I don't think so. Once the rot sets in, the atmosphere becomes more and more toxic. WU are there for the taking I reckon.
As always these messes can go either of 2 ways, get worse or somehow bring the team closer together.
Unlike say a Rudan, can't see nice guy John Aloisi (met him briefly once) being a polarising, disliked figure. But whether he can heal all the infighting rifts, who knows.

They are last on the table, no wonder they are not happy. As much as I see them fail, for the A-League it is never good, ah forget that, let them fail! They always play unattractive football, I don't like them. Hope we score a lot of goals against them.
Wellington Phoenix squad: 4. Scott WOOTTON, 5. Steven UGARKOVIC, 6. Tim PAYNE, 7. Kosta BARBAROUSES, 8. Ben OLD, 9. Oskar ZAWADA, 10. David BALL, 11. Bozhidar KRAEV, 12. Lucas MAURAGIS, 13. Out: 3. Finn SURMAN (injured)
Unavailable: 14. Alex RUFER (injured)
Squad analysis: Finn Surman misses out again through injury for the ‘Nix, on another weekend where pre-game focus will centre around which four players feature in Ufuk Talay’s frontline.
In Round 5’s 4-1 win over Macarthur FC, Oskar Zawada, Kosta Barbarouses, Ben Old and Bozhidar Kraev started in attacking areas, with David Ball and Ben Waine coming off the bench, the latter of the two scoring his third goal of the campaign.
Fantasy tip: Kraev is finding his feet in a Phoenix shirt. He bagged his second goal of the season last weekend and said in midweek he’s happy he’s delivering on a pre-season promise to have a genuine impact in the final third for the ‘Nix this season.
Western United squad: 1. Jamie YOUNG (gk), 4. Leo LACROIX, 5. Dylan PIERIAS, 8. Lachlan WALES, 9. Dylan WENZEL-HALLS, 11. Connor PAIN, 14. James TROISI, 17. Ben GARUCCIO, 19. Joshua RISDON, 21. Neil KILKENNY, 99. Aleksandar PRIJOVIC
Ins: 21. Sebastian PASQUALI, 31. Adisu BAYEW, 99. Aleksandar PRIJOVIC (promoted)
Squad analysis: Aleksandar Prijović is once again in the mix to make his first appearance of the season this week as head coach John Aloisi promotes the Serbian striker to his squad for Round 6. Prijović was included in the first two Western squads of the season but is yet to make a match day squad, battling a chronic toe injury.
Fantasy tip: Nicolas Milanović to continue his red-hot form. The 20-year-old has been a rare bright spark for Western early doors, scoring three goals in five appearances and just 135 minutes.
I had to laugh just now. The game is being played at Wellington Regional Stadium!! Why? Because "Paramount+" don't want to use the name of a competitor - "Sky" Stadium.

they're not competitors though, in NZ Sky has the rights to Paramount content.
Hope people and particularly the club don't get upset if the attendance isn't what they want. It's the 2nd of 3 home games in row if you include the womens game. Would imagine a number of people and families have had to prioritise those games they want to attend.

Tbh, the club seems more focused on getting 10k to the Ladies game than pushing these games.
