LB/RB player.

Surprised by this a little, as he will be 3rd choice in either spot currently.

There will be overseas interest in Sutton. He wants play up north, so I reckon he's gone at season end.

May even be some overseas clubs looking at LK-H (an AW after all) and Sheridan.

Loke coming in, is all part of the early planning for next season.

Edit - could Sutton even be leaving in the Jan window? Contract expires end of the season. So if the Nix are to get any fee, it has to be next month.

Players tend to be around the first team for a couple seasons before getting major minutes, so it will be planning for a couple seasons ahead.

Out of all the "newbies" that played in the cup games, he excited me the most with his style of play. Potential is very good. The Academy wins again, producing a decent player.

Agreed...one who looks like he has come on immensely over the last 12 months and great to see young players develop at that rate.   High work rate and effective in defecnce and adds to the attack when he pushes high.

Loke like Sheridan before him is a decent right back prospect who will not play at right back due to the presence of the superior Payne, and his career will probably be similarly stunted as Sheridan's has been. I am not excited about him at all

If Payney gets injured , suspended or is dropped for poor form, I will be perfectly happy with Loke.

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

Loke I understand can also play both sides?? If so there maybe more a opening going at LWB

Sheridan I'm pretty sure was a midfielder in the Academy, debuted at RB for the senior team in season 2023/24 as that's where they had a need, and then most of last ALM season was back being a midfielder. Bit like LKH we don't yet know where he will play this season let alone career long term.

I think Loke has a higher potential then Sheridan and in a season or two will have dislodged Payne if he hasn’t been sold off by the club.

If i was him i would concentrate on playing on the left. More chance of game time with Payne holding down RB. He looks good going forward so  possibly goid option as a left wing back. Hes definitely has the potential

In this interview from the end of last season Sheridan makes it clear RB is his preferred position. He always looked really promising there for me and as much as I like Payne it is a real shame that Sheridan has had so few chances there

Elliot played RB because the coach needed a RB. If you want to play you’re flexible.

Also think he’s likely to dazzle a bit more than Sheridan. Tbf different players and Sheridan has played 3-4 different positions in the last year.

Agreed with all that. Elliot was a 10 before joining the Nix (and for mine is now a better RB than Payne)
IMHO, Payne's not yet recovered his excellent pre-injury form, and may not. Loke is already challenging for RB, and it may be that Payne is shunted to CB, as a third CB, to cover injury, or to make way for Loke.

Loke has been ok in pre-season - so maybe calm the farm a little on the expectations.

Clearly a bit of a leader, having captained the reserves, he will struggle to match the physicality of senior professionals this year. He got bumped at the U20 WC a few times, so if it was an issue there, it will be more so of one in the A League.

I think Loke will be great to push Payne. Stops Payne from complacency. Both get a win win. Like can make it his own should he carry on progressing and want to make it.

The issue of physicality is probably quite similar across this age group, apart from rare exceptions like Corban Piper due to lucky genes.  Loke can work on the physical side of things as he is still young. It gets harder for the older guys of slight build.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Part of it is work in the gym, but also just adjusting body position in contact situations - something that becomes more apparent when playing against adults instead of teens.

Not sure Piper would like his strength conditioning being put down as just 'lucky genes'. I've viewed some of his gym workout stuff on Insta. He trains very very very hard. Was a part time PT I think when at Birkenhead FC.

17 yr LBS's chunky build maybe more a genetic attribute. But then he also has that sprint BMX background, which would be all leg power stuff.

Is no way Loke upsurps Payne at RB/RWB. Not even close.

Good to know that Piper earned his physique the hard way.  Makes it all that more important that he chose to be a professional footballer whereas he could have easily play club rugby instead. I recall watching Siggy playing rugby for I think Sumner (?) off season, way back when.
