Early start this week folks as we cheer on either the bubbly boys or last years Fever scholarship winner Dan Finlay's Three Kings in Big Cup action before the Phoenix match.

Formation and player angst can start here:

Same formation as last week with Siggy in for Manny or Lochhead. Marco on the bench again. Whoop whoop for a play maker.Michael2009-09-14 14:07:24

swap Lochy for Sigmund and I could go with that..id like to see Chen on the bench otherwise fly him home and get a real striker.

A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen

Can Sigmund play left back?

He sort of made his mark there though when he first came into the team.

Even so, he belongs in the middle. Assuming all three of Sigmund, Durante and McKain are fit I would prefer one of the two latter to be dropped. Hard decision but Sigmund as by far the most consistent of the three.

ferkin great!

Despite all the new signings, despite all the talk of positive play, despite our hopes and ambitions it has come to this. After 6 rounds we are playing for

THE WOODEN SPOON

Loose to the Fury this weekend and we will probably be rock bottom. This does not make me very happy. We are not a bad team. We have some very good players. We should not be playing to avoid last. NZ sport this winter is at rock bottom.....we need the Phoenix to put in two good wins....the public is crying out for some success. Thats not too much to ask is it?

I'd imagine unless we see an injury Ricki will keep the same team. He hardly ever tinkers with a successful (enough) formula. Maybe Caeceres on the bench for Rojas though? Seems silly Siggie won't be on though so maybe he'll slot in somewhere, although Mckain and Durante seemed to have a good partnership going.

don't focus on the negatives, focus on the positives. we've been playing excellent, exciting football the points will come.

No Rojas? I sincerely hope not. He proved in 10 minutes what an impact he can make. Nearly created a last second winner.

Times like these that a bench of 4 becomes so limiting. If McKain is slightly dodgy, then Siggy will be on the bench at least. Other two? Rojas & Hearfield I would guess. Maybe time for Chen (instead of Hearfield) to provide a true up front option on the bench.?

I know, I know, its serious!

That's just plain crazy talk. Caceres will get on the bench, or the field, way ahead of Marco. This whole thing threatens to become another "Play Costa" scenario, because?????
If you want him to play regularly, get our youth team running

Well said Smittyz11 that's the attitude.... and while we are on a positive note ...
there will no doubt be a few on this thread who might paint on their sheet....

Robbie Fowler, Liverpool legend...
He knew Manure when he smelt it.
Michael Owen, Liverpool legend...
Has serious sinus problems.

that is ridiculous. can see our midfield falling apart down the middle.

and with our angst of being bottom, we shouldn't worry. We have a squad capable of really being dangerous. and if we had snuck wins from the past two games in which we probably should have won, then we would be 2nd equal!

I think the squad should remain the same for me. With a bench of Caceres, Hearfield and Chen.
Maybe swap Hearfield for Siggy?
Although Rojas was promising, we still should be looking at these other players. Although Hearfield has had a lot of time on the bench.

Don't think we should be breaking up that defensive combo. For me its just Manny vs Siggy for a start and then neither should make the bench if they don't make the starting squad.

McKain going off highlighted some defence probs if one goes down and no cover. If he went off when he first whacked his knee we would have had 15-20 mins with Manny at CB and Lia at RB. That scenario could play out again as we only have Siggy as a spare. If McKain is out for a whole game then we have no cover for CB.

I may be a bit off the mark but isn't that essentially the way we played in Season 1 for a bit mid-season?

I think Caceres could be the missing link in the middle. If he gets on  and is in a good mind set then he could be the one to be creative in the middle.

I reckon Ricki should give him free rein the first game to give him some confidence and hopefully turn into a great creative attacking centre midfielder for us.

him alongside the brut of Brown/Lia would be the creative passer while the other is the hard tackler/aggressor.

exactly, at home we have tended to play a 4 - 3 - 3 line up, with Daniel, ifill and greenacre pushing forward - why reduce it to two, away we use the 4 - 5 - 1, which I hate....

can't see any changes in the starting lineup, caceras on the bench would be ace instead of Ferrante, with maybe Chen - who knows, all depends on how they train I suppose
