Sorry dude but are they going to arrest all 3000 of us?

Nah just kidding. Would the FFA reprimand the club? I'm sure I've seen videos of this sort of stuff from Australia?

Im guessing it would be up to security to confiscate it upon entering, just like other banned items.

That's why we chant Ricki Herbert's Yellow army (and you'll be surprised at the number of people who don't realise that is what those crazy guys in Yellow Fever are chanting).

It may come across as vain, but many are mainly attracted to this "soccer crowd" thing that is happening. So we should behave like one and do what we can to make first timers enjoy it so much that they want to be part of it again ... and again ... and again. Which is happening. Doesn't need gimmicks.

Arm them with no more than the words of RHYA, Who are ya, and Wellington is Wonderful (I've had a couple ask me what the words to that saints go marching in song are) and they'll feel part of it. No songsheets required.

edit- to be fair there are probably worse ideas than encouraging people to wear yellow- but there is theproblem that if people come for the gimmicks not the football, we'll end up with 20% or more of the crowd acting like a rugby crowd - just chatting, singing along with the dj and generally ignoring thew game (so more money and less of a true buzz!!)

Ive kind of dropped the yellow out topic. It was a simple idea. But as always with Ideas, you get people who think that they know what is best for everyone else. and they get shot down. Its the exact reason why the chants thread fails, because everyone thinks they have something better.

Im pretty sure that Shirts off at 80 mins if we are winning is a gimmick too by the way.

Im am also sure that if Greene or other fever execs suggested this sh*t you would all go along with it.Stefan2010-02-26 07:38:34

Sorry no i wouldnt. My conern with this and many of the other ideas posted was it seemed people were losing sight of just what this game was about. It seemed like people wanted to turn it into another sevens party which it isnt.
We see posted all the time on here that pre conceived wackiness is not what YF is about yet it seems to know be being encouraged.
Keep the toys in the cot bud,end of the day as long the lads come away with a win none of us will care what prats people made of themselves.

With all due respect, I think you're the one losing sight of what the game is about - it's an entertainment event that is intended to be enjoyed.  Nobody has the right to tell anyone else how to enjoy the match experience. If people want to do streamers or chicken suits or whatever, let them. Nobody is forcing you to partake yourself.

Good on ya Stefan for promoting discussion. The Fever culture will fail to develop further if it refuses to consider new ideas.

My tuppence - it's very common, from what I've experience, at cup final matches in the UK for people to get done up with team colored costumes, face painting etc - it all adds to the atmosphere of the day.

Neither Stefan or myself when I started the Yellow Armey thread made any suggestion of people getting dressed up in one piece Borat mankinis or dressing up as CHiPs officers, but only wearing something yellow, as per the name of the supporters group ie us.

I didn't hear too many dissenting voices around the white-out for the WCQ game, and certainly no criticism that it was all just an exercise is pre-concieved wackiness, in fact most comments were how impressive the white-out was and how it added to the spectacle of the game

Some folk need to stop sooking lemons for five minutes and look at the benefits, if it becomes a great day out, a great spectacle of finals football with the backdrop of 34500 passionate fans getting behind the team in a colourful, voiciferous way it's a great advertisement of the game and a good way of attracting first time football noobs to come back next season.

When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

I think that being the only club in nz. A lot of people still haven't come to grips with what the A-league is.
Its not a bunch of "football purists", Its not the terraces of England. The A-league, though only young. Has its own way of doing things and so do the fans.
Its a vibrant and colorful league where people are allowed to do what they want.
If people want to dress up, thats fine. But I think that the ones who do dress up will mainly be made up of the bandwagoners and work groups.

One other thing. Im not saying we should be like the 7's. But one of the main reasons why its so successful is because people have the freedom to dress up and have fun. People dress up for the Phoenix a lot of the time anway. Greene did it when he and his group dresses up as animals.
Dressing up isn't really a 7's thing anyway. Its a Wellington thing.

I hear a lot of people saying thing like.. Thats not what Yellow Fever is about.
Well tell me what its about.Stefan2010-02-26 08:41:58

I think people are conjuring up some fairly unrealistic scenarios.  Sure, people might get a bit excited for the playoffs, and so they should.   The regular season won't be like this.  If I went to a hurricanes game I wouldn't go dressed as chuck norris or a boy scout just because I did that at the sevens.

The main hoope is that the regular season will have 10,000 on average, and then 12,000 and so on, as poeple get hooked by games like these, and then get into the regular games.

Let the playoffs be a bit of fun  - lord knows you guys have earned it.

P.s. shirts-off plus man-hugs.  Awkward.

Take a breath Stefan, haters are gonna hate - see the sack Ricki thread! (Sorry Steve-O, I know you've been mister positive here but it is the best example I could think of )

Yellow out will probably end up being done by most even though a few knockers may jump up and down, and i'm personally loving the balloons/confetti idea, dissapointed i'm stuck over in aisle 5 as it took until thursday evening to get numbers sorted, so I won't be able to get involved in that.

Everybody should just do and wear whatever the f**k they like*. What started out as a, reasonably, light hearted thread has become a wail-fest. I don't particularly like attempts to organise "spontaneous" wackiness, but they'll happen whether I like them or not. Carry on Stefan, you're doing a fine job.

That is all!

I don't view confetti as a gimmick at all: in fact I associate it with a Big Football Day Out (Spurs have had more than Hull, Ed!). Which is exactly what this is for the majority of us who won't be able to get to the Australian semi.
