It was kind of a sarcastic comment . Hopefully the FFA will pay us something say per every Australian we have.

yeah it would be proper! We need the youth team very badly! I need it too, another excuse to go to the stadium every second weekend!!

Who would be decent enough for the squad here in NZ?  I'd actually like to see a strong youth squad, not one that would get pasted by the aussie teams.

Smart move by the club saying we will be inclusive by getting 6 or 7 Oz youths in our baby Phoenix team. Means we can feed the really good players into the seniors. Everyone wins. the club gets to look at more talent. The Aussies like it coz we have young Ozzies in the team. Young kiwis get a chance to develop their game. The non playing seniors get a chance to regain match fitness.
TBH the reality is there are probably not enough really talented young kiwi's to fill the whole team to a competitive standard. I am happy to be corrected on this...and probably will be....

Probably a daft question, but where would it be based? Wellington or in aussie to save costs?

If it was in aussie, could it be usefull in getting young kiwi players citizenship so they dont count as imports?

Yeah this will be a big question that needs to be addressed.

I know we all love the idea of developing NZ football, but at the end of the day, the youth team is their to develop Phoenix players for the phoenix.

It would be great if they played in Wellington...say at Newtown park. They could play alternate home games with the seniors...i.e we would then be able to have football at home to watch every weekend. I would pay $10 to see the Phoenix juniors at Newtown.

Do the do curtain raisers? Not sure where/when they play now in OZ

a curtain raiser would be great, get two games for the price of one and a half.......season tickets could get you to both games at the stadium.

An interesting comment by one of the posters at the bottom asked whether we would want to have a womens team as well.  While I agree the youth team is definitely a higher priority, I would quite like to see a Phoenix womens team in the future... especially after all the good press the ferns got recently.

I thought the idea was for the youth teams to play curtain-raisers for first team's games wherever they happened to be. Here, Perth, Sydney, etc. Could be wrong.

Anyone know how the youth team structure has worked in Aussie this season?

Have they played curtain- raisers (assuming whoever would have played the Nix youth team would have a bye)?

Yeah, they do play as curtain raisers to the HAL games... thats why last week, on the same day as the Raw played at Suncorp - the womens final was played at Ballymore (which is about 5k's (and a couple of pubs) away... the Youth game took precedence over the chickies.

Are we planning to announce our youth league team... http://www.wellingtonphoenix.com/default.aspx?s=yleague

Probably just from the template of the other teams though.

And I'm well aware its not transfer speculation but it doesn't really deserve a whole threadchocnut2009-02-04 23:05:40

Lol Stefan, BBBBW + others who were in this thread last time don't make it go where it did before that has to be one of the biggest thread hijackings on this site.

Wow News, way to post as the Fever and yet sound so much like you.  Seriously though folks - on topic please.

Interesting question above - are there enough young Kiwis available of suitable quality to fill a team?

And who would you like to see coach it?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Pevs would be one.

Truth be told you really want someone with a more national view to comment.  Fact is most of the best kids come out of Auckland.

In Wellington there are certainly some.  James McPeake and Jake Gleeson would both be shouts in goal I'd guess.  Central League and Team Wellington aren't overflowing with young talent.  Eagar's name would be in the mix.  Fin Milne too.  Both off to College soon though.  Cory Chettleburgh is young but impressive, I'd have him in.

Not an age group I know much about though.  Ricki and Stu would have to get back together I guess.  Stu knows (you'd hope) that group well.  There are others in Napier too - Andy Bevin etc etc.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.
