I know he doesnt stand out to get man of the match awards, but Rees certainly deserves a mention. Since he came on board, we have turned our season around

I'm thinking moss because most of the goals hes let in have not been his fault but his defense. Tonights match was a prime example where hes a great keeper as that penalty save wasn't a fluke he saw it early.

Smeltz for me, even though he hasn't often been the standout man of the match he has been our most consistent performer, banging in goals right throughout the season.

people have to remember that after about a third of the season, many (many) people were calling for Moss to be dropped.

Only because there is a lot of tools on this site. A lot of people were also bagging Smeltz.

Moss is incredible.

And some of us still are. Hopefully we get someone better for next season.

Semltz for me. Consistantly good porformances, high work rate, and a avg of a goal every 2nd game.

A dog with a bone :)

I cant remember the Moss bagging.

But the MOTS for me is Moss.

Moss, Smeltz.

I didn't like Dodd at the begining of the season for some reason (poet and I didn't know it) but have really warmed to him. I dont know why I didn't like him, I just did. But he quietly got better (I guess I started heckling Old more) and I really started to admire him once Rees came on board - in my amatuer opinion I think Dodd started really showing what he could do once Rees arrived. So Dodd is my number 3.

But considering we signed an entire team from a pool of players who were mostly on contract anyway, 6 or so months from a start of a season at the end of the day I think they all did pretty darn well.

Moss, Smeltz, Dodd for me. Dodd stands out in a shambles of a defence. I still don't really rate Rees - he's better than O'Dor and Old but gets caught ball watching too often and can't deal with pace.

He would work much better in a back 4 in the centre but we don't have a right back though.

Oh God. Back to the Pacific Blue website then!

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I agree, however I do think that Rees plugged a little bit of a hole in the back he still isn't fantastic - otherwise I would have picked him over Dodd.

But because of my brilliant powers of observation, I was saying that I only really started to notice Dodd once Rees arrived.

Better not be R18. I'll be going for my restricted that day so if I get it I can drive there.

Totally agree with this post. Its Moss, Smeltz and Dodd for me too.

Lochhead was superb until we started playing 3 at the back

players that standout for me

Daniel
Smeltz
Moss
Dodd

Yeah I'm pretty much the same. I dont think daniel would quite be there for me although he would be right behind them

Moss - well YF took the words straight out of my mouth last night when they said: " We've got the best keeper in the A-League"

Smeltz - Been great all season scored many goals and is right up their for highest goal scoring this season.

Dodd -  By far our best defender, he is bloody great. He has a bit of a defender but pretty much always comes through when we need him. too bad he had to get a virus and missed a few games.

I don't think Lochhead can be overlooked. Overall a really good season at this level for him. He's shown he has a lot of ability as a defender, with an attacking option down the left. He's impressed me what's been a troublesome defence.

Smeltz - he shoots, he scores
Moss - he plugs the last defensive hole
Daniel - Revs the crowd up and is actually pretty good tactically

Lia and Ferrante - most improved, when allowed to play their natural positions.

Daniel for me.

Highest assists in the A-League, great attitude, good work rate, great crosses, good football brain, good passion for the club, the fans and the city.

He's done a huge amount for the club and football going around the schools. The kids love him.

Winston Peters owes NZF bigtime over the Fiji fiasco.....best repayment he could make would be to get Daniel a NZ passport so he can play for the AW's in the WC qualifiers

Daniel must also satisfy the FIFA requirement that players representing a country with an assumed nationality must also have been resident in the country for two years - introduced when one of the middle east countries tried to give citizenship to a team of Brazilians overnight!

Man of the season has to be Terry S, no contest.

Player of the season? I'd  go for Smeltz as well. I reckon he's got a lot of weaknesses in his overall game, but he's paid to score goals and he's done that all season. After him, a toss-up between Moss, Daniel and Dodd. As others have said, Lia and Ferrante have got better as time's gone on and both of them have finished the season well.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

It would have to be Dodd or Smeltz. I would say that Lochead would be the most overrated at least on these forums. Ahead of him in importance are Moss, Lia, Daniel, Felipe(but more as an impact player) and possibly Ferrante. I don't think he is a midfielder but would be fine with having him at the back left in a 3-5-2.

Man of the season? RUSSELL GRAY!! Russell wasn't on the bench on Friday. Anyone know what was up with him?
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

1. Smeltz
2. Moss
3. Daniel

Smeltz over Moss as early on we conceded a sh*t load of goals.

I concur with Arsenal,  Smeltz deserves it.

and with everyone else saying that Daniels a good guy. I meet him at a Phoenix afterparty a few weeks back and he bought me a drink and we had a good chat even though i was just same random star struck skank at the Estab. Great guy.

Its gotta be Smeltz for me.
Mossy has been tremendous and those two players stand above the rest for consistently good performances for me but Smeltzy edges it with some brilliant games.

Couldn't agree more. Smeltz for being the difference between the goal scoring drought that was the Kingz and the Knights and Moss for being the best keeper in the A-League.ScoobyD2008-01-08 18:08:47

Smeltzy for me, and with a couple more goals he is still a chance for the League Golden Boot.

Daniel gets a honourable mention, not just for his football, but for the work he puts in off the pitch.
