Why do we never play our youth players?

Is it time for Rojas/Musa to get a run to mix it up a bit? I mean look @ how good Kosta is for Brissy. Real shame we let him go. Other than Hearfield our team is quite old isn't it?

I don't know, just another talking point I suppose.

i wonder if you could draw a parallel with Perth....they are old and they are average. Melbourne will need to rebuild soon too

no game time to really show that they are any better than main squad.

But you'd have to think that Rojas isn't better than Bertos and that Musa isn't better than Sigmund. But we need a shake up. Vukovic in goal is a big one for me.

Why not give them a try and find out? Otherwise what exactly are they doing there?

Three for me, and two for them.

I guess we'll see what they can do in the ASB tourney.

Exactly the same thing that Kosta was doing there....living the life of a pro footballer and learning.

I really hope people aren't advocating putting James Musa into the starting line-up ahead of Sigmund or North.  However, I fear that's exactly what people are saying.

^ This. Some of the knee jerk responses I've been reading on here today are laughable.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

There's gonna be a whole lot more knee-jerking going on this week...

1. I believe that replacing an experienced International player by throwing in an 18 year old, who has no experience at anywhere near this level, isn't the right thing to do. It would be a risk if we were playing well, putting him into a back four which is clearly not functioning merely makes it an even bigger risk

2. At what point did I say that YOUR post was laughable? I said that some of the things I've been reading on this forum today are laughable.

Suggesting that James Musa should be assigned the job of marking Thomas Broich.

Advocating throwing a 17(?) year old that last year was playing centre midfield in Mid Central 1 into the lineup after only a few months of professional football is fairly laughable. If he shows enough in training (or in the reserve games to come) to earn a bench spot then great, and anything can happen from there, but I don't get the 'if we aren't going to play him then whats he doing there' attitude - he's a youth player, he's there to develop.aitkenmike2010-11-04 13:14:50

I don't know if anyone is saying they should be thrown straight into the starting lineup, but I absolutely agree these guys need to be considered at some stage.

I mean, is there harm in giving them a 15 minute run at the end of the game when we are losing by three? While I'm not advocating giving up on the game as soon as we go a few goals down, I think it needs to be considered.

I agree that it can't be knee-jerk, and to be fair I know hardly anything about either Rojas or Musa, but I've been wondering this for a while.

Also, will Siggy (or others?)get suspended soon for yellows? Could be worth a bench spot at that stage imo. Something has to change right?

The problem is that with a four man bench, no coach can put a guy on the bench in the chance to use him when the game is outta reach.

Yeah I realise that makes it tricky. This isn't an attack on the coaching staff or anything I just figure there has to be an opportunity to give these guys a run at some stage

I'm sure they'll get their opportunity, personally I don't feel that now is the right time.

^ This. It's not panic stations just yet, but if we keep playing like last night, something has to change eventually

Maybe the rules could be changed so that you could carry one extra player on the bench.....a youth player who could be bought on for experiance when the game is truely won or lost. The way our season is heading Musa and Rijos would get lots of game time.

Right, so when the young guys fail and we lose, at least we can say 'oh well at least we tried'. Then maybe we can try more things until we win. Or we could just stick with putting the best players on the park and try to make it work - radical idea, I know.

If there was ever a spot for Musa it was left back to allow Manny to play in midfield, now that Elliott has that holding role Musa is, well, Draper in disguise?

Rojas might have more of a look-in, but Daniel deserves a decent run as well.
You know we belong together...

ASB Premiership is a 'League', not a 'Tourney'. As soon as you call it that people stop reading. Just so you know.
