Beggars belief in a grand final just how negative we set up in that first half.. What actually was the plan? I'm sorry but that is all on Bev, unbelievable

Not on Bev, City is better in general and you cannot concede goals like that in the final (first goal).

Surely macey Fraser is thrown into the mix for something different in the attack.

Nunn looks the best opportunity of breaking them open.

Pub has turned the women off in favour of the blues, not that they’re doing any better than the wahinix. Guess that’s my night done unfortunately, people don’t care that it’s a grand final apparently, or at least not in akl.

Oh no!!!! 0 -3. Too easy!
Before that two really sloppy pieces of play by the Nix. Poor passes in the attacking third gave away easy possession.
Woooo....we score!

Momentum seems to have changed. Need to keep on testing that keeper at any opportunity as she looks suspect

I’ll be honest, the 3-0 timed with me having to bedtime so I missed our goal. I’m thinking I should hold off watching in the hope it has an effect 🙈

We have been extremely poor Infront of city's goal. Very disappointing.

Superb effort by the wāhinix this season, definitely gave us all something to be proud of and unfortunately it just wasn’t to be. Hopefully they can take heaps of confidence from the season though (they definitely should do), regroup and go one better next season. Well done to all those who made the journey, looked great on tv. Onwards on to next season 💛🖤

Gutted for the players and staff. Brilliant season by all. So much determination and passion shown. Super proud to be able to support such effort.

Lots of half chances we just couldnt take. Also some really poor passing from the back that gifted up possession.
But the key for me was that we looked really nervous in the first half. Maybe the occasion, being in our first GF got to us. We were certainly better in the second half once we relaxed and started to play our own game.
But its been a great season and we will be back next year even stronger.

Return of the AAMI park curse. 100th game goes down as a loss, 9 games now without a win against City. Hard to compete against City Group with their billions. It would have been so nice for us little guys to get one over them. But not to be. Maybe with Bott and Samba back next season we'll have a better chance.
Proud of the team and still Phoenix til the end of time.

Both Mel C and our shirts and balls have gone up for auction on Match Worn Shirts. Didn't even know about this till I saw the email.

Glad we didn’t go down without putting them on the rack a bit. Ten minutes there they were hanging on at 3-1. They defended like champions unfortunately. Any other team breaks there I think.
Finals are often won on big players and moments and McNamara made something out of nothing with that first strike. Woods and Anthony played well.

Brilliant season for the Wahnix. It's very interesting to hear the discussion about next season when the girls don't get paid for the off season and have to think about how they're going to survive for the next few months. Incredibly poor situation for so called professionals and something that needs to be sorted by the clubs and the a league now.

City beat us twice in the regular season so we can't complain too much, they deserved it.
But what an epic season we played and I'm keen for the next one. I'll definitely be keeping a closer eye on the woman from now on.
Hope the men take some inspiration from this. Next year is looking promising!

What game were you watching, one team in it and that was Melbourne. Yes proud that the women got to the final and had a good season.
I see comments on socials about us owning the league next season, not to be a downer (more a realistic view) but if Bev isn't coach next season, we won't be close to winning anything and the upcoming month will be interesting for the Wahinix.

We out shot them again. But two brilliant finishes by a very fast player and that's the game.
A great season and a good GF effort. They'll be dissapointed but have done us proud.

She also joined us at the pub post-match, along with Domey, Gilly, Rob, Amy and (I think) one of the other Welnix owners.
Obviously I’m gutted by the result but so proud of the team, the way the club has gotten behind them, and the supporters who descended on Melbourne from all over and made their presence felt.

Priestman's wife Emma Humphries is also only about 1 year into 3 year deal at the Nix Academy. Yes people do break contracts all the time, but to exhibit a bit of loyalty does show future employers you come to a club for the right reasons. It's known the Welnix are big supporters of womens football, and the ALW side are one of the better resourced in the comp. They also have a child so probably like a bit of stability having only been in NZ a year or so.
After Dronegate Bev is likely quietly enjoying rebuilding her career and reputation, so maybe in no rush to leave. Being English she may have eventual ambitions to coach in the English WSL.

Absolutely devastating result and such a shame we didnt switch on until it was realistically too late. Loved the fight in the second half, kept pushing and pushing and pushing.
Big shout out to the Christchurch YF contignent who put on an amazing watchalong party at the Loft. Had a blast even if it wasn't the result we all hoped for.
Cannot wait to see what's to come form this team next season!

Well the result was a little dissappointing, just shows the leap in quality between City and the rest of the league. I thought tactically the team set up wel, keeping City scoreless as long as possible had to the plan, frustrate them and grab one late. Unfortunately a coupleof loose defensive moments gave the golden boot winner too much time to make take some quality shots. At 2-0 we were still in it, but the third killed it off for us, even after we scored it was out of reach.
Vlok was marked out of the game, clearly City had been watching and te kept her quiet, and we struggled to create much, leaving Nunn to do all the work which made her a target as well. Leon did ok, in the first but Anthony really made a difference. I'm not sure that Fraser made as much of a diofference when she came on as expected. Lots of movement but nothing really on the ball, her free kick was very nice and could have easily gone in. Cant be too upset, finals are tough, the players that are there next year have now been there lost that, so they will be better for it. Now it's up to Bev and co to strenghten an already decent looking squad for next year and go again!

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's living in Agadez, Niger. Spending more time in town, Agadez, as bad people in the desert are spoiling the good life.
