Can't remember which famous manager said it but it reminds me of the artists and the soldiers football quote. We have a lot of artists in our lineup today... need more structure

Very surprised Tanaka being pulled. Would have taken off Jale. Come on ladies, big second half coming!!
I have an amazing ability to find my way out of mazes. I'm pathological.

Dear lord, some of Elliot's decision-making is academy-level
Elliott has been appalling, but it seems everyone is now trying to match.
This is becoming a train wreck.im struggling to find some praise.Wall looks promising!

McCutcheon has hardly put a foot wrong.
She must wonder what's she's signed up for.
The rest, mehh!

Not all doom and gloom. Thought we played lots of positive football. Were competitive and had better ball possesion. Looked way better with some full backs on the field in the second half. Weren't expected to win this one. So was a good hit out. Lots to learn. Hopefully the last we see of three at the back with no fullbacks. Though we only have two genuine fullbacks in the squad so time will tell.

WU get any cards for that BS at the penalty?
They were genuinely worried. We attacked so well, but the crossing and finishing lacked something. Reckon we had 7-8 chances to score after4-2.

I lost count of how many times the ball hit the top of the net. We were really good at that.

Looking forward to this import defender coming in

You get half a point for that yeah?
If so we bloody smashed them!

Not a great start to the season. Some pretty poor defending at times but we showed some promise going forward.
Mackenzie Barry didn't look as good as I was expecting, especially when she completely left her attacker free for WU'S 2nd - but hopefully it's just a case of still getting up to full fitness.
Anyway despite the bad result I think we still saw enough that as the team gels a bit more, and get a bit more tactically astute they could be pretty good to watch

We could/should have won that, but not with defending like that.

Yes poor decision making and execution at the back cost us this game. But I thought our attacking play was very lively and an entertaining watch. Good games especially Longo and Whinham. McCutcheon looks good quality, hope we can keep her in that DM role rather than as a CB. We do have 4 other CB's in the squad with the arrival of 5th import.
Jale a bit quiet and needs to get more involved. Tanaka looked good, was surprised she got subbed at half time.
In second half also thought McMeeken and Wall were good attacking in those full back roles. And Brazendale was pretty solid at DM.
With those two being the only full backs in this squad, does make me wonder about tactics this season. Is the back 3 going to be a thing. Especially after last nights 1st half failures. (Lots for Temps to think about). Would prefer a more traditional back four with McCutcheon dropping back when fullbacks attack along the flanks, especially for away games.
PS. Heard on an Aus pod cast that Ferguson didn't feature in our first preseason hit out against WSW a while back. So sounds like she has been nursing an injury for a while. I expect she will likely get integrated slowly back into the team once fit.

With Wall and McMeekin, you have a good balance for your full backs, so definitely a back four, I would expect Barry and Lake to be more solid in future, but we will have other options. Depends what they try to do with McCutcheon, as with Longo, Whinham and Tanaka we have a full midfield. Im hoping Tanaka was unfit at halftime, as I thought she looked good. Assuming Ferguson is a starter, we may not see much of Jale, I am yet to be impressed with her, but I live to be proved wrong. But Im fully confident of much better things next week.

I watched this game and although they leaked goals, this really was one of those games that could have finished 6-6 from all the chances.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Hopefully they return to 4 at the back from the start against Canberra.
