A Distance Derby on Waitangi Day, can it get much bigger than that? Yeah, probably but lets keep the momentum going.

Perth’s away record this season is 1 win 1 draw and 4 losses. Their only away win was against WSW.

So we better apply a power of Anti-Jinx then - I'll start..

We always seem to be the team that gets other teams off their long losing streaks - we're doomed I say - Doomed!  There, that should do it......
04 Feb 08:16
We've played 9, won 3 and lost 6.  A daunting task in the distance derby.

Well well well... big opportunity to take control on Waitangi
04 Feb 21:05
Anti-jinx... Argggh no, we've dropped to 3rd because of Brisbane Roar. We're on the downward slide.

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

Also posted in the men thread. Was meant to go to the game today however I unfortunately have ended up unwell so was wondering if anyone would like my ticket? (Will be giving it for free) If you'd like it please private message me. Sorry it is only one.

Fever are trying an experiment for the women’s game of standing right up front of the bay, would be interesting to hear from people in other parts of the stadium and in TV-land what it does for audibility/visibility.

Can't hear the Fever thus far

Edit: no, I can hear them when they're chanting, they've just been quiet a fair bit

Not a fan of Wall.
Nor Pijnenburg really.
06 Feb 03:39
I can hear them but well agree they've been quiet but not sure much is even different with them further forward than what would be in the normal place

I am missing Porirua Park to be fair and the proximity to the pitch. It's a much better venue (for a CROUD this size.)

We had our chances early but since then it's been a real arm wrestle.
I have an amazing ability to find my way out of mazes. I'm pathological.

And as I type the previous comment we get one!! Great press from Leon and Wood!

Wood and Leon have worked very hard, and deserve that goal.

Hard to tell which way the wind is at ground level. We may have it help us second half.

Perth have played quite well. It's good to be in front.

06 Feb 03:56
Talk about placement! When it came off Woods foot I thought she'd hit it way too soft. Turns out it was perfect.

1-0
06 Feb 03:56
Great goal. Now one thing commentator saying if women are to win it is the first time the women would've ever gone top of table? But that isn't true is it? I feel I remember even if it was for like an hour there was a time most likely 2 seasons ago now when both teams were top. I don't have the screenshot anymore but I feel there was one with also the whole 'stop the count' do I just have a bad memory?
06 Feb 03:57
Schoolgirl defending, really bad decision-making by the Perth player. Totally needless
06 Feb 04:09
firs half has been tightly faught, our high press has really tested Perth, but we've been a little gun shy with out chances. great to see Woods sneaking one past the keeper, her and Leon have been working very hard. Vlot is being marked out of the game for the most part, hopefully Nunn and Jale can take advantage in the second.

Queenslander 3x a year.

I'm not sure Pijnenburg is quite up to this level yet. She's often quite uncertain on the ball and loses possession under little or no pressure.
06 Feb 04:35
Ifab need to deal with this fake injury tactical break.
06 Feb 04:40
Damn, that should've been the game.
06 Feb 04:48
I couldn't tell if it were a fake one today but I will be honest I get there is kinda a reason but I've been so so annoyed by them because it is now happening every week. Does it need to be happening every week? But I agree

I dont know how we get a yellow for that but shoving over Esson got a pass

A Perth player rugby tackles a Nix player to the ground: no card. Woods lays a hand on a Perth player: card.
06 Feb 05:03
We are top of the league!!
06 Feb 05:11
1-0. I'll take that. Top of the league. Woop Woop. Was a real potential banana skin game with the pressure of expectation. Lets not make the women play at an empty sky stadium again though, they perform so much better at Porirua park with a crowd pitch side.
06 Feb 05:16
Bloody outstanding work ladies - Hats off to everyone. Looked like

Wheels could have fallen off with all injuries/absences and a middling start to the season, but things are coming together nicely.

Dare to dream! COYN

You’re not officially top until the round is complete.

Don't kill the vibes.  We are top of the league right now.  That will be true until it isn't,  and right now it's true baby.

Only City or Roar could take our spot this round, and they play each other Sunday night. Come on 0-0 draw!

Edit: Beaten to it

We do have a midweek game in hand to fulfill though, so right now we are deservedly top, as we have played the same amount of games as them!

The game.... well great to win and go top of the table, but that was a real fizzer of the game.

We were the better team for most of the game, but neither side really looked super likely to score after 1-0. Disappointing from us not to score more/put the game beyond doubt, but we deserved to win.

Player performances: Makala Woods and Lucia Leon continued to combine well enough though not at their top level today, well done Makala again what a run of form in front of goal she's in! Jale was a real battler again, Vlok put in a strong showing taking on players aplenty, wasn't Nunns best game for me I thought in a tired team performance she often slowed the play down and took more touches than needed.

Ellie Walker and Van Der Meer I noticed making some great challenges and decisions, actually think they outshone Mackenzie today who of course was still Mrs. Consistent. Agree with others that not Wall and Pijnenburgs best day, frustrating because I still see them in our best XI. Wall with some poor crosses today but this is a standout attribute of hers and I think having her as an adventurous fullback suits us with a more cautious fullback on the right side. Pijnenburg has some good moments and maybe just needs to play until she reaches the high level we know she is capable of, but right now it's fair to question whether she or the reliable Brazendale deserves to start. Mackenzie Anthony btw worth a mention off the bench - thought she was on point with her forward passes today and linked up well with Makala, was quiet in her first few games but hoping this can take off too!

Overall just thought we looked a bit tired and low energy today, wonder if the travel and 5 day turnaround played a part in that, thankfully Perth weren't really up to much themselves and really lacked star power.

Oh no, I was meaning that’s why we’ve never been considered top before. Even though there are games to play this round, we’ll have a game in hand afterwards, so we’re definitely top right now

I'm really divided on these double headers. On the plus side we get more fans into the ground for games at the caketin, and it introduces this team to new fans that might not have ventured out to PP, but the downside is the stadium is way too big and looks empty with a much much poorer atmosphere, and the womens team still ends up being a sort of "warm up act" which is just undeserved. Maybe a couple times a season as currently is best? Interested to know others thoughts.

On this note have to say it was wonderful to hear the two boys and their dad behind us talking about the womens team and their favourite players so much during the mens game, I remember on previous occasions people would come in and it would be as if the womens game didn't even happen, really do hope the womens game on all levels can continue the push to be as mainstream and talked about as the mens game. So when are we getting an NZ derby hey?!
