Kopgoff from on here has complained to the Commerce Commission. Article on Stuff;

http://www.stuff.co.nz/business/88743860/english-p...

Good work Kopgoff.

Although I do wonder if this complaint should sit on Sky rather than Bein considering they are the Supplier, and are essentially out-sourcing the online component as far as Sky customers are concerned?

Semantics I guess. Main point is that Kopgoff is fighting the good fight, and has successfully got it into the public eye on behalf of all us whingers who don't actually get off our butts ;)

Sh*t, kopgoff has gone one better and written a whole piece on Sportsfreak;

http://www.sportsfreak.co.nz/to-bein-or-not-to-bei...

Great work mate. Excellent summary of the situation. When I read that I see exactly why you are targeting Bein over Sky, makes a lot more sense to me now.

Edit: Gosh I'm catching up on it bit by bit via twitter... kopgoff also tweeted that he was on radiosport sometime after 1pm discussing it... obviously I missed it, anyone hear?

It's a simple as this: this time last year we were paying less money for a better product.

That was really helpful to read. Gives me a good understanding of how bad this is. Like I said earlier I only watch the Chelsea games either live or record them for first thing in the morning so haven't taken much notice of all the other stuff.

Having said that when I've been away I've had to miss a game as the people I was with didn't have SKY so now knowing that I've been paying for an online service I'm not receiving, I'm pretty annoyed.

I must be the only one who likes the channels. Mainly cause I get to see some  Championshp games, La Liga. The online issue is a pissed off but the TV coverage is decent enough for $12 per month for up to 5 channels.

It's 2017. They should be available ondemand as well.

Yep for me it's the fact I can't watch on skygo (or BeIN OnDenand in this case) when I'm away from home like I can any other sport I'm paying for through my sky subscription.

And perhaps more importantly like they promised.

I'm also fortunate enough to support a big team so games are always live. This is not the case for supporters of teams like Bournemouth who are having to wait until the afternoon for a full replay of their over night match. This is not all games all live as they promoted (and attracted paying customers to Sky from).

And the most frustrating aspect is the disrespectful service and lack of communication when anyone asks for an update.

Another good piece on Stuff, and kudos goes to Sky for finally opening up and talking about this;

I think you've got the wrong end of the issue here.

I love the channels too, plenty of people do. The extra content is great.

It's the lack of on-demand, and the online offering in general, that is the problem, and the fact that it was promised to us but not yet delivered.

So for people like yourself who aren't so interested in the online side of things there is no real impact.

I've been really p*ssed off on a few occasions where I've been in the absolutely ridiculous situation of streaming illegally despite paying a decent amount of money for legal access.

The info coming out in the last 24 - 48 hours has entirely shifted my anger to Bein 100%. My only fault on Sky now is that it took them so long to tell us that the issue lay with Bein, and that they were actually trying to do something about it. They haven't really given a toss until it got into the media this week, which tells us everything we need to know about their priorities. Sad but guess that's the way of business these days. They don't care about the individual until the issues get in the public eye and become more damaging. At least these days it's easier to get the issues into the public eye.

So to re-cap, from the info I've read, this is basically what has happened as far as I can tell;

- Bein priced PLP and Sky and anyone else out of the market with a huge bid that was part of a wider global strategy

- Their strategy didn't really come to fruition, but they now have the NZ rights for 3 years, and absolutely no appetite to actually deliver a good product

- They signed a deal with Sky to provide the content to us in a haphazard way, that would enable them to keep their own costs down by not having to provide the platform, but at the same time double dipping by continuing to own the online component themselves

- In the end they don't really care about the service to NZ customers and tried to do the least possible when it came to the website, probably with inadequate project resource, meaning it was delivered late, and was of a low quality in terms of content and flexibility

- And have since gone underground entirely, leaving their poor social media team to cop the fallout

What are the odds that Colesium could sub-lease the rights back & #bringbackplp?

BeIN made the promise to Sky that if you subscribe to BeIN on Sky then you will get access to BeIN Connect. That hasn't happened, and its all on BeIN

like if you are a restaurant advertising caviar and you get couscous instead from your supplier it is still your responsibility to not serve couscous as caviar?

Nope. You gotta just say nothing for ages, then eventually tell your customers to go and ask your caviar supplier themselves.

Duh.

OK, am I reading their schedule for this morning right? We have 7 games on simultaneously in the EPL. Of these 7 games all of the current top 4 are playing. Yet of the two online channels available to us they're showing Chelsea vs Liverpool (premium game of the round, logical), and Marseille vs Lyon in the french cup.

What is the point in owning all the content if you can't show it all via mediums that don't require programming? Man these guys drive me nuts.

It's almost like the right distribution model for live events is online, on demand, where customers choose what suits them.

Not the Premier League i know, but good news for me and a fair few other expats from next season:

Football League boss Shaun Harvey confirms the following plans:
- The 148 matches broadcast on television in England will be sold abroad as before.This means that these matches will only be possible to review through the channel that purchases the TV package in Norway.This season it is known Discovery that has these rights.
- The around 1,500 remaining matches will be possible to flow through a new service called "iFollow".This applies only to us who do not live in the UK.

So it's taken them a full season to not get the same quality of web based service as the previous rights holders. How many years did they win the rights for? Another season like this is going to suck!

Got up early, came into work intending to watch game on Bein Connect, completely forgot that they only televise one channel for premier league, sitting here watching live commentary text instead.

F*ck you Bein.

Got the letter yesterday telling me that Bein is putting their prices up by 34% from August, to $16.10 per month (from $11.96 per month).

Cancelled today (was going to anyway given the end of the season) and not sure I'll be up for that new monthly cost.

Still considering that myself. Considering not getting any online access as promise last season.
