I think people forget that without welnix we would not even be in the comp right now. While they may not be football "experts" I for one am grateful for what Rob Morrison and co invest each season. I know for a fact they certainly don't make money from it and do it out of love for the club. So to say that they have no ambition is actually disrespectful. If they had no ambition then we certainly wouldn't be around right now and we certainly wouldn't be where we are today. If some people on this thread think we even come close to having the same player budget as say a Melbourne Victory then you're dreaming, yet we are unbeaten against them in three this season. That certainly hasn't been the case in seasons past so I think that puts the ambition argument to bed and proves that we ARE improving as a club.
Mark Judan: Family Time
He won't stay because the people running the club are unambitious and don't really know anything about football.
Spoken like a true Ole Puppet
Their gamble of a guaranteed place in the A League has almost been attained. When [and I'm sure it will] that happens, they will either sell at a good profit or invest in the club properly. I have said before if they weren't prepared to put the money in they should let someone else buy it, that will. From a business perspective I can understand why they have been like this but as a fan it has frustrated the hell out of me.
I'm definitely not claiming inside knowledge. It's been obvious for a long time that the owners aren't interested in investing for success, they target a finals spot and then hope for the chips to fall the right way. The fact they don't know much about football is also obvious from a lot of decisions made in the past. Keeping Kalezic around would have fallen in the "completely boneheaded" range, not the "doesn't know much about football" one.
Bullshark.
They got stung on say Kosta and don't want to waste money. Maybe they're not all football people- that's why they've hired Rudan.
If they just wanted a hot investment there are a lot better ones than the Nix. If they want out so be it- they've made a huge contribution. Now get Rudans signing done.
I hate how the season is so short contracts always hang over the end of it. Get that license and lock in the bedrock

You can say that all you want, it doesn't mean there's some magic billionaire in waiting.
Rob has been quite open that they're looking for investment and a partnership from a larger club in Europe.

If we're making money then it won't be a problem for the current owners to have a much higher player budget.
Is Mark Rudan got the " If The Nix have no future past 19/20" out clause from the final year of contract.
The Owners "Know What I Want" a future in football.
While the owners weren't football people, they certainly are becoming that fast. Heck, our chairman is at the crux of setting up a new league and is well admired by 'real' football people.
Think we are in good hands. Give me Morrison over Sage any day.
Rudan gets a lot of love that I think Kurto deserves.
Our Loss column would look a hell of a lot worse without him.

This.
All we need is some football expert that looks further than a coach is able to do. The coach could be shark or homesick and then is is gone after a year. That person has to build long term plan for players and is able to recommend contracts for valuable players. Long term versus short term success a coach might have.

Like a Director of Football you mean? :) Pretty sure a number of YF have been suggesting the club created that role for a number of seasons now. If only the club would listen :)

This comment is a copy and paste from a few years back. ;-)
Rudan gets a lot of love that I think Kurto deserves.
Our Loss column would look a hell of a lot worse without him.
And who do you think signed an import keeper (and against the thinking of many YF pundits)?
Kurto's been good.
And Rudan absolutely deserves the credit for that, as much as Kurto.
Kurto has been outstanding! Much better than good in my opinion, sorry not nit picking, actually reinforcing your point.

One might argue the keeper coach.

One might. But you've not exactly done so. :)

Not really, he's not going to be the only one deciding who to sign. Team's got a whole host of scouts and backroom staff + Greenie. Doubt Rudan found this guy sitting on the Eredivisie bench and discovered his talents all by himself

I didn't mean to suggest Kurto and others involved in Kurto's recruitment and coaching don't deserve credit.
But I was replying to a comment that argued Rudan didn't deserve credit for the performance of our keeper. Or should get less credit than he's getting.
As I said, Kurto has been good. And for sure he deserves credit for that.
But based on what I've read, Rudan insisted on having a decent keeper as part of his defence and spine of the team, and was willing to use an import position for that. If all that's true I don't know why anyone would want to take credit from Rudan for that call.
He'd get bollocked if he'd started a teenager in goal, surely he deserves credit for the call to sign an import keeper. Especially when Kurto has made a big difference in many games.
Very much this.
I'll be extremely dark if Rudan goes and takes Kurto with him. I'd be seriously fudgeed off actually
If Kurto is on a one year deal then it wouldn't really be Rudan's doing though would it?
Anyway I really don't think Rudan will go until at least the end of next season.
I don't think Kurto will be leaving to go to another A League team. If he goes, it will be back to Europe I'm guessing.

his form
I think Kurto say NZ as a stepping stone. To get back into first team football and get noticed, which he has done. If he leaves I'll be happy because it means we have had a strong and successful keeper, which bodes well for us as a team.

From this mornings Radio Sport interview
Anyone have the audio to the interview?

Doesn't fill me with confidence that he'll be here next year.

I just caught a sound bite from him this morning on Radio Sport. along the lines of, Next season my family will be with me, whether its here or somewhere else. I didn't get the feeling that was positive or negative, if I was a glass half full guy - I'd think he will stay as long as his family is here with him. I wonder if there are negotiations afoot to get the Nix to pay for them? I'd have thought that would of been part of the original deal. I say that because I was hired from NZ to a job in Australia and they paid for everything and more [including free accommodation, then subsidised rent, then payment of stamp duty when buying a house, storage of furniture - the works]. I thought that was pretty standard for trans Tasman moves where they want you to move and they think youre the best person available for the job.
The other thing that Rudan said in the interview is that Rob is telling him the license is sorted but when he talks to people in Australia he hears the opposite. Of course he's probably talking to Fox and the FFA.
It really seems like it's down to the length of the license. He said if he's taking a coaching position next year then his family will be moving with him, his priority is to stay with the Phoenix but he's prepared to take a year off if need be.
My guess is if he goes to Melbourne it will be a multi-year deal and his family will move. If he stays at the Phoenix it will again be a multi-year deal and his family will move.
It's a bit annoying because he knew the situation when he came here. In fact he said the challenges of the role is what attracted him. He knew from the get go that the license is up in the air.

It was the right move for his career and the club at the time. Get it done Rob.
Can't help but think that if the family were going to move they would have done it at the beginning of the school year.
Also how are the various Scots College teams positioned for centre backs this year?
a bit annoyed that contract talks (and the endless mean spirited license chatter) are hanging over the end of our meagre season once more- Krishna hurt us last year and we haven't been playing great recently and the only media has been contracts.
His family are going to pull up roots in Sydney and move to Wellington? Let's face it, that is not going to happen, meaning he will be gone at season's end no matter what line he continues to take. Which is fine, I never thought it would last, and at least it's given us long suffering Nix fans a rare respite from perpetual gloomy frustration. Hopefully all the media blather and uncertainty won't affect the team heading into the most crucial series of games the Nix have had in years but I suspect it might.
Really the only thing that matters to me right now is getting the ink dry on a new A League licence for the club's long term future. The Rudan issue has become a tiresome distraction.
Why not? Sydney is a horrible place.
He's in football. If he wants to be a pro coach he's going to have to lead a nomadic existence.

Because he has teenage boys that aren’t going to want to leave their friends behind for Wellington.
Kids move when their parents move.
If the Sydney gig happened and that turned to crap, eh knows where he would have to go.
Maybe benefits for his kids are part of the deal, we won't really know.
