This is nothing about core values. Our off field organisation is poor and Rudan has helped with that. If we lose Rudan we need both a new coach and some off field leadership. That's manageable, but we need to sort both things

100% this

Nix management got lucky getting Rudan. ..............

Nix management appoint a coach and then expect them to take on the whole recruitment, publicity, media roles etc . Rudan is now Mr Phoenix. He is the face of the Phoenix....he is the go to guy that drives the recruitment, coaching, media, publicity...everything. Thats a lot of weight on one persons shoulders. Especially when the coach's primary job is sporting. Thats why if he leaves it will leave a huge, huge hole. When we had a proper footballing CEO like Pignata, he took on lots of the off field stuff.

This issue has come up quite often on the forum. There have been calls for a director of football appointment. There is probably not enough fat in the Nix budget for this extra position but IMO there would be plenty of competent football managers who could do the dual CEO/football managers role.

Its not the title that is important, it is the actual role. Someone will be playing the role of 'football manager' in that list, its unlikely all of the things necessary to run a football club are just not done because they don't have someone with the title CEO Football or similar. This may something else that will receive more attention by the owners when their A Lague existence is assured.

The current management appointed Kalezic and nearly appointed JP.

If Rudan goes, rather than playing hardball, I hope the club ask him to help appoint a successor, maybe from the NPLs.

I'd rather have a successful manager from there than a multiply-sacked smooth talker from Europe.

From memory the prospects are looked at by a committee(group) including a lot from the top group plus outside football contractors for want of a better description.

Rudan specifically said that pro coaching is easier than amateur because he can focus as there's people to do all the other jobs.

I knew Mark Rudan was going to have a good year at Wellington this year because he comes across as the uber alpha type for whom young men will run through walls.

The speculation around Mark Rudan’s future is just that.

The first and top strategic priority is for Welnix to secure the new license for a decent term, ideally with no end -date.

Everything else is secondary.

We may get an announcement by the end of this month but it’s more likely and realistic for it be May, June or even July for the organisation to be in place and implemented. The new organisation working group will need stakeholders’ approval before its proposal can be implemented.

To be fair Welnix are a bunch of well-meaning business people who will want to make a success of it and be able to make sound low risk decisions for the medium / longer term. People forget it’s their money that is being spent and not ours or the players.

In the last few years they have been hesitant to outlay huge sums for good reason, as they have basically been in a holding operation.

Rob Morrison, who I have great respect for, has said that Welnix will invest more (with the right shareholder / partner) in the future of the club, including the academy. This won’t happen until the license is in the bag.

And this includes a deal with Mark Rudan and family. That’s the reality.

So we are going to have to wait a little bit longer.

Morrison and Welnix will have an organisation and management plan in place no doubt that they want to roll out, and it will happen in good time. If there is no new license they will also have a plan B.

There are critical results required  on the field that ensures at least 4th place is secured after round 27.We supporters should be focussed on ensuring we get as many people along to the remaining home games in Wellington. Mark Rudan and the team need only concentrate on this for the rest of the season. Very clear and simple.

Let’s get rid of the angst and enjoy the ride over the next 10 weeks.

I had another YF Rudes tshirt idea:
Black background
Rudes stylydes face (in yellow, a la Retro Ricky but with colors inverted) and in block letters the word:
RUTHLESS

(apparently he kept yelling to his players to be ruthless against CCM).
If this isn't a $1m idea I don't know what is!

Western United are targeting the signatures of Wellington Phoenix pair David Williams and Filip Kurto.

The new A-League club has already announced Panagiotis Kone, Josh Risdon, Connor Chapman and Aaron Calver as their first signings.John Anastasiadis and John Hutchinson have been appointed as the franchise’s assistant coaches. But The World Game understands United are keen to lure forward Williams and goalkeeper Kurto across the Tasman.
The Victorian club’s new head coach, believed to be Phoenix boss Mark Rudan, wants to bring the duo with him.
Williams is off-contract at the end of this season, after signing a one-year deal when he left Haladas
, and as a free agent would be free to join Western United.

The well-travelled former Socceroo, who has played in Denmark and Hungary, has recaptured his best form under the coaching of Rudan in New Zealand in the past six months. Williams has started all but one of Wellington’s A-League games this season. The 31-year-old, who can play up front or one either wings, has banged in seven goals from 20 appearances for the much-improved Phoenix, and has two caps for the Socceroos.

Polish keeper Kurto joined Wellington on a one-year contract from Dutch outfit Roda JC Kerkrade in July last year, and is also set to leave the Phoenix at the end of the 2018-19 campaign. The 27-year-old, who has represented his country at junior international level, has impressed in New Zealand. Kurto has made 19 appearances in the A-League, notching five clean sheets. The shot-stopper leads the competition for saves with 78. Central Coast Mariners keeper Ben Kennedy is second with 70.

Earlier this month, reports linked Kurto with interest from European clubs. “I really enjoy it here. The level of the league and the team, it's very good. [Wellington] is really good, it's really calm which is what I like.” Kurto told reporters.Rudan has declined to commit to Wellington for next season, despite having a year left on his contract with the club. The 43-year-old has also said publicly he won’t be with the Phoenix next year unless his Sydney-based family relocates to New Zealand.
"My family is the big one," Rudan told Radio Sport. "They are first and foremost. I have struggled to live without them. We have had discussion about it, but I've made a decision that my family has to be with me. “It's not going to be a come and go situation. It just doesn't work. My boys need me, I need them as well. The club are working hard to try and improve the situation."

May not really be Western Melbourne. It can simply be The World Game.  Their trolling setting goes to eleven.

Yeah the reason it continues is because folks give them exposure and therefore clicks and therefore ad revenue.

Just ignore them and they'll go away.

To be fair the this new club, if true, they are simply looking at all available players for their first season. why would they not look at good a-league players who are off contract? Especially those that are potentially unlikely to re-sign for their current club as it has license issues.

But that's not how it works. All clubs have been free to negotiate with players coming off contract since Dec.

Both you and theprof are obviously correct on this.

In reality, we might be hampered in our contract re-negotiations by the licence status.

We need the licence extention or permanent position in the A-league before we can do anything.

Love Rudan and would support any moves he makes. If he does go, hopefully the Nix organisation realise people like Rudan and Popovic arent born out of nothing. Aussie lower leagues may be the way to go for coaching talent, rather than some European with a dubious CV i.e. Kalezic or Hudson. Replacing Kurto might be a bit harder.

Surely as he is contracted to the club, if he is not at Wellington doing "his job" there must be something in the contract that says he wont be paid.  This would also mean that he cant coach another club (unless the Nix agree) - there has to be some form of compensation to the Nix should he go.

You'd hope that if Rudan does go WU pays the Phoenix compensation.

I don't like the idea of holding people against their will, but what absolutely shouldn't be happening is Rudan being involved in any of the hiring at WU while still contracted to the Phoenix.

Rudan says he hasn't made a decision yet, and you have to take him at face value. The problem is that the Phoenix have been lied to in the past by people trying to get a release to join another team.

Yes but from Craig Moore's rant (as quoted in other thread), dodgy SBS reporting is not just scurrilous stories about the Nix. Loose stories undermines and pisses off other clubs too, like the Roar.

Can't go round accusing SBS of solely targeting the Nix, without following all the half arsed stories they release about the other 9 A League sides. Seems more shark journalism, that any vendetta against NZ's sole a League team.
