It's the article further down which I found more interesting. They were picking on city (rightly so). That's 3 positive article right there.

They were actively suggesting City reviews their relationship with the coach.
I hope Welnix are reading the tea leaves and writing a "no-Joyce" clause as we speak.
Lets be honest- Williams was flipping amazing and an understrength and nominally vulnerable team came up with a huge result
I've been saying this for a while. I think the club's plan when they signed Rudan was for him and Greenacre to groom Dura into the next manager once Rudes' two years were up (assuming our licence is extended). If Rudan leaves that obviously mixes things up a bit, but if we exist past next season, I fully expect Andrew Durante to become the manager of the Phoenix one day.
I thought Dura wanted to move into marketing, not management?

Yea that's what i thought, he has a business degree which is more backroom focused (about managing an organisation from a sporting business sense).
Sorry to clarify above when I said 'management', I was referring to being the manager of the team (I.e. Rudan, Ricki etc). Not the manager of the club (I.e Tony P, Domey etc).

"In the media release which confirmed Durante's contract extension and the signing of academy product Liberato Cacace on a two-year deal, the Phoenix revealed the 36-year-old would also take on an off-field role as commercial manager. But the player himself said he would just "dabble" in the role initially and his intention is to take on a fulltime position, possibly with a similar job description, once he has retired."
Mark says he had a chat with Edge about brining in McCowatt and Just at the start of the season but both coudn't agree

Well good to know Edge, is at least prepared to talk to people at Nix HQ.

Probably had to include Harry as part of the package. Lol.
Thing is, Rudan's style suits the Nix and the Nix's suits Rudan. Neither party should consider rocking the boat. It could end up in tears for everyone.
Liked Dura's long memory on Bosnich.
Fair enough- welcome to the bandwagon, but if Rudan goes to WU are we then expendable again? And once great CCM, once perennial title contenders likewise?
Is Aussie(tralasian) football about more than Fox sport and therefore endless Melbourne and Sydney teams?
Dura for manager? Interesting. Not as bellicose as Rudan, nor (unfortunately) as accustomed to success. But definitely a great Phoenix leader and a club legend. Rudan trained in a tough lower league first and proved himself there. Be tough to start at A league level. Even a leader like Nelsen foundered in management. Might need a Phoenix Mike Phelan if we're in a rush?
So much chat about next season for Wellington Phoenix. Don’t forget to enjoy this ride as it’s happening. Finals football and a team fans can be proud of. Whatever happens beyond May will happen. Forget that. Enjoy the present. Drink it in. Live in the now. Just my 2 cents. pic.twitter.com/n7l9qB4Dk8

I would be OK with Dura as Greenacre's assistant, but not the other way round.
Slap in the face for Greenie, that's what it would be.

Question of licenses?

Sure but then Greenie would have got his by now wouldn't he?
As above, Dura is lining up (or is being lined up) for a back office role. Longer term, maybe he's seen as a successor to Dome? Whatever, Greenacre needn't be worried - Dura ain't coming for his role(s).

Nope still hasn't got it, the problem is it requires FFA to run the pro course for it and they haven't run it in YEARS. So there are no knew coaches coming through with the required license.
If Greenie wanted it, he would have to go away overseas to get it and give up coaching at the Nix in the mean time.
Weren't they supposed to run it this year?
I'm guessing you probably need a critical mass of candidates to make it worthwhile, and since having a Pro license isn't a requirement for Aussie coaches to be A-league managers, suspect that the numbers probably aren't there.

Yeah, I'm sure that has to be an option on the cards. From memory, though, I think the intake of non-confederation affiliated coaches is limited to something like 10% of candidates, so there's probably a waiting list on that front too.

From memory (so I could definitely be wrong) it has to do with where you got your previous qualification - so for example, if you have AFC A and want to get UEFA Pro in England, you're down the pecking order as an outside candidate.

Perhaps NZF could do a deal with FFA for them to come over and run a Pro licence course in NZ. I'd hope a bunch of local coaches would jump at the chance to upskill, and even if NZF had to spend something on the exercise, it could be a great investment in the local game.
Asking the FFA to do us any favors would be waste of breath wouldn't it.0
We would still pay for it and recoup all of that money (or most of it) through fees.

How many AFC A-level coaches are there in NZ? Not many, I'd imagine.
Many contracts are up for renewal on June 30th, and there's a risk some (more) good players will be lost because nobody knows who the coach is going to be. It's time for Rudan to declare his intentions, and for the Nix to start on plan B.
There are about 90 NPL teams and coaches. Go through them systematically and identify the *successful* ones - those who have consistently done much better than expected with the resources they had. Like Rudan did.
Make a short list and approach them now for an EOI.
IMO there's no harm in this process being public - the uncertainty is already public.
The 'right' coach might not be there but it's a good place to look.
The nix can't really go offering the coach a longer/better deal if they don't know if the club is going to exist past next season. Rudan is unlikely to sign anything that has that uncertainty hanging over it. He wants his family here and I'd doubt he'll consider moving them for one season.

which, if the rimours are to be believed he would break for a longer term deal.

Whoever is next needs to continue/build on the culture that Rudan has (re)created at the Nix this season.
far too much hype over Mark Rudan. Sure the Phoenix have had a good season to date and some of it will be down to him. Not the end of the world now he’s going and it will be interesting to see how he goes with his next club. Let’s wait 5 years before judging how good he really is.
Good luck to him.

Sour taste in my mouth to finish the season knowing he is not going to honour the two year contract he signed.
