Have to appreciate Rudes ability to generate spin. Clearly all his talk was designed to foster this mentality the team currently has. Hopefully this pulling out doesn't crack their belief.

Christ, in my contract it says if I fudge off, I can't take any staff member or client for a period of 12 months thereafter,

Why the fudge does it say it in my contract and not his?

And why are we not making him honour what ever contract he did sign?

If this guy pulls this off, then it shows what a bunch of hicks Dome and Morrison really are

Then take them with him!

Because they put an 8 week notice period for termination in there that either party could trigger.

I'd just like to thank him for coming in and what he has done this season. But also I'd like to thank the club for taking the gamble on him, after their previous one had failed.

I'm probably almost as guilty as anyone, but I don't think we should go too emo here.  Yes, it's not great he's going, and it makes life tough, but I can't get behind the 'traitor' or the 'sack him now' type talk.

I've enjoyed this season and it's not over yet, especially after the last few.

He's gone from one job to another with better conditions for his life, I'd do the same.

have to agree with this, he knew he'd signed on for 2 years, he knew where the fudge he was going, he came here with a plan and talked a big story and was determined to make football great not only for the nix but NZ. Then after 7/8 months he decides he's missing his family, oh boo fudgeing hoo, fly them over here more often do what you need to but dont go throwing words like legacy and pride and being a Kiwi when you dont fudgeing believe it. We, as fans deserve better, from the club and the manager. He has not left us in a better position, he leaves us with 15 players off contract with 1 year to go till we are folded. He leaves us with our #2 keeper and our second string players. Most of our starting line up are gone end of this season.

well I'm not anti him, but I've seen plenty of examples of things going downhill once a guy's head is turned.

Not just coaches, players too.

Sometimes you need to protect yourself.

If he can't get the players up playing for him, it's time to make changes.

It actually wouldn't be a bad move to get a new permanent coach in; at least you. Might get to keep a couple of players we want

What coach is going to sign on for 1 year? Especially when the club is not likely to exist the next year, and he has to find at least 15 players to fill the roster, no player is gonna want to come here for 1 year with no future....we are fudgeed!

How Welnix respond to this is going to be interesting. Ernie struggled to get them to open the purse strings and to some extent Rudan has too. It's all about the licence and the inability to comit anything until it is in cast iron that we are either in or out.

and rightly so, why would they start spending massive amounts of more cash when the club want exist in 18 months under the current model. They, as much as Rudan, probably want to make big changes, but there is no point if they are just going to be wasting it. Welnix would have said to Rudan, give us till April and we'll know about out license. That got shafted by the lower league clubs. No club, no investment. The least Rudan could have done is wait until the season had ended to announce he's leaving.

I've never felt this pessimistic about the club and its future before.

At least if we kept Rudan it seemed likely we'd retain a decent amount of the squad and build on this year maybe play decent enough football to prove our worth to anyone not completely biased and secure the existence of the club.

Now it seems like we'll struggle to retain important players, recruitment will be an absolute nightmare with a new cashed up team looking to recruit never mind that we don't have a license to operate the season after.

And I type this as our strikers miss two chances that should have been goals as we lose to a 9th place Brisbane which deals a massive blow to our home playoff chances.

The future is looking among the bleakest its ever been despite the highs this season has delivered. Thrown another curve ball and running out of time.

Jeepers, seems a touch hyperbolic.

I would take a new job if it paid better and was 20 minutes closer to home.  Doesn't mean I am not building in my role for the future with or without me in that role.

Moving 20 minutes closer to home would make a significant impact to my life.  Doesn't mean I don't care about my job now, and won't until such an opportunity arises.

Nothing about 3rd world countries or any other exaggerations like that.  If good opportunities arise, people go for them, that's life.

I've been more pessimistic. The future was bleaker when we literally didn't have a license. We've got the commitments of the clubs and an upcomming independent A-League. That's more than last time.

IMO we ditch Rudan and give Greenacre the reigns. Rudan will have lost a lot of players, Greenacre will rally them and focus them on how important their performances are not just to their careers but to the survival of the club. He's a club man through and through.

We also get that new coach bounce.

There's a difference between your average joe switching from Company A to Company B for a better work-life balance, and an unproven professional coach taking a job with a franchise on the brink of extinction hailing himself to be the saviour and preaching loyalty, only to go behind the club's back to accept a better offer halfway through your contract and take all their star players with you.

I'm okay with people putting themselves first... I don't think being selfish is a bad thing, if I got offered enough money I wouldn't think twice about leaving my job. The problem I have with Rudan is that all of his press conferences are about wanting a challenge, caring so much about the club and football in NZ, etc... but I just don't think it's true, it's actually all about himself which he isn't honest about.

The reason he is a good coach is that he made the players care about the Phoenix, and because of that they have been playing with passion instead of the usual apathy. I don't think he will be such a good coach at Melbourne C as he can no longer take the line that the club is so important, etc, etc... He is not a tactical genius, and without people wanting to buy into his emotional acting - after fudgeing the Phoenix over - he will not be such a good coach. At least we have a rival now! Looking forward to smashing Melbourne C and any traitors he takes with him.
