Football fans would have to content themselves with actually discussing how the players did.

If the foul is committed inside the box it is a penalty, if it happens outside it is not.
I thought this was common knowledge; bit surprised to hear a referee doesn't know this.
In a counter-attack, the AR is often best placed to decide where the foul took place - so when a foul is close to the area, discussion is a pragmatic choice to be clear about and 'sell' the decision.
Yep, I'd agree the AR should be well placed to make that call, especially since it was deepest Phoenix player, so he should have been at least in line, and would easily have been able to see it was 4 yards outside the box.
I guess those that think someone 20 yards out with his back to goal is imminently about to score could easily consider 4 yards to be "close to the area'.
Personally I expect better from officials in the top NZ league.

I disagree. Studs were never heading towards the player, always ahead of and pointing away from player.

Fair point. For me the arm is already (just!) on attackers shoulder before the heavy touch, so the test if the player had control (he did) , rather than can they gain recontrol, hence dogso.

Fair point. For me the arm is already (just!) on attackers shoulder before the heavy touch, so the test if the player had control (he did) , rather than can they gain recontrol, hence dogso.
Arguable both ways probably. I felt the heavy touch was before there was enough contact to be considered a foul.
The second one was a definite, but for an 18 year old to speak to a referee that way is often indicative the referee has not controlled the game well. Probably would never have said it f he had been given the decision for being pulled down in the first place, or the referee had been doing a good job to date.
Penalty didn’t look like a penalty on initial challenge, but maybe when the Weenix player went down he fell on the guys heels. Didn’t have the angle so maybe, I couldn’t say.
And he should probably read a dictionary to find out what simulation means. You don’t just book people because they end up on the ground when you didn’t see a foul.

It's 100% an indication that the player has used Offensive, Abusive or Insulting language - not sure why you feel the need to clarify the 'often', rather than the 100%?

4 straight reds from one referee, 2 of which nobody is arguing about: foul and abusive language and a definite DOGSO (although he sent the wrong player)
1 second-yellow from another referee, a middle of park shirt pull to stop an attack, then a poor challenge, milked by opponent, but probably cardable and he'd done a couple of other fouls.
So they have the least wins, most losses, lowest points total, most red cards, and a free ride to the National League every year.

In the Oranje world, it's pretty clear that players are never accountable for their decisions that lead to the issuance of a red card, only referees.
As it's been said here, and elsewhere, player mis-identification aside, All of these reds have been backed as the correct decision, and reinforced as such via NL ref coaching - except the last 2 of course, because coaching points won't be available till the back end of this week.
Young players make mistakes; these are learning opportunties for them.
The Weenix are not there to win the national comp.
They are there to give our best young players a place to develop and a team for our injured/part-time first-teamers to find fitness. Forgetting covid, it has achieved these two goals admirably.
Singh, Waine, Cacace, Bell, Elliott are all 21 and under and playing in Europe!! Two of our other non NZ eligible players are also doing well with one at Olympic Marsaille and the other the number 2 draft pick this year for MLS.
NZF and the NIX don't need an uppercut, but a well done.

Personally I don’t give a toss who wins the NL, but enjoy watching young players develop and get signed overseas. Des’s successful U20’s had a core group benefit from being in the NL with Weenix and ES.
Hopefully Wests can join Weenix every year in the NL playoffs.

Ah they left at the end of the 2019 Scots College school year to go back to the Solomons, then went to trial at Victory at the start of 2020. Same issue as before though, couldn't sign a contract as they're still both not 18. They're both back at Henderson Eels in the Solomon Islands S-League. 17y/o Raphael Lea'i has scored 53 goals in 24 league games, when he turns 18 I wouldn't be surprised to see him go straight to Europe or similar
Shame we couldn't keep them around. I know they couldn't play but they could train in a professional environment for a few years
There are actually plans to setup a quality academy in SI. Would be great for football in the OFC.
Be nice if someone like Paul Temple could visit, if it does get off the ground. A link between the Nix, and any academy there wouldn't be a silly idea.
