Contracted Players - Return of the Long Pins
DeVere - whilst he came in and did well for us last season in partnership with Taylor, generally think he'd been pretty ponderous this season. Also a guy that's been pretty injury prone over the past few seasons. Massive respect him as a senior, experienced player but I feel Payne and McGing have done well since they came in and I think they've pushed their claims for more squad involvement, over and above what would be warranted for DeVere.
Laws - hasn't really impressed me at all. Could be a squad option, but don't think he's up to it just yet. He's still young too, but honestly I wouldn't be in for him for an extension.
Hemed - For a visa spot has underwhelmed. Injuries aside, I think we could do better. The one thing I would say though is that his inury has allowed more game time for Waine, so I'm appreciative of that. Of course if he starts to bang them in I would reconsider.
Ridenton - Could be re-signed on the cheap as a squad player. Don't think he's up to it however, think we could aim higher.
I did think Fenton was worth two ✅✅ but forgot to add that in.
Also was unsure on the keeper situation - think if Sail keeps up his form he'll be our #1 going forward. He'd be considerably cheaper than Marinovic, and we could use the money saved if we let him go elsewhere and invest it in other areas of the squad. Plus, we could potentially elevate Paulsen from the Weenix squad to a first team contract.
.@WgtnPhoenixFC coach Ufuk Talay has confirmed @wufcofficial have approached goalkeeper Oli Sail and they are yet to re-sign any of their off-contract players, even without announcing.

A decision on Jaushua Sotirio's involvement against WSW was to be made after training today. https://t.co/Ynu9Tf6fRE

We always lose players to bigger and better clubs so no big deal there, I'm all for Sail leaving as this will develop his game and he can move on to better things. We have a academy and it has produces some nice players lets just see if it can produce a goal keeper worthy of a A-League start.
Great reflexes and seems to always be in the right spot.
Still makes errors that said, but he is young.
He is very highly rated, 18 years old Kiwi/South African. Made some fantastic saves in WeeNix games watched this season, Piney had him on his team of the season.

I'd like to think this is what will happen, but I guess we'll see how contract extension talks pan out.

I think staying in the reserves would be best where the mistakes like that can be ironed out, and if worst case scenario happens (both Sail and Marinovic don’t renew I’d like the Phoenix to take a good look at Cam Brown, I reckon he’s the best keeper in the country atm, positions himself well and a decent distributor for his level, is athletic in the same way Marinovic is, albeit less imposing, but I still reckon he’s a very solid keeper.
Need to lock in Devlin for example sooner rather than later.

Undoubtedly a harsh system. Let's drum up some debate. I'd like to think I'm not too far off what most people would go for.

I dunno, I dont think he has really had an opportunity to sho his skills, as an U23 player he wont be costing much so no harm in keeping him around as a squad player.

Given he's 35, I'd want to taihoa on re-signing Taylor until we see how he gets through the next couple of months.

Shouldn't be a surprise that good players attract interest from other clubs. Hopefully we can offer both deals that are satisfactory for them to stay

Devlin i'm predicting will sign with an Aus team, especially if he continues to come off the bench
He’s the striker who has a cheer squad almost everywhere, hosted Prince William and played vs Maradona in a game endorsed by the Pope.

This is the remarkable story of @TomerHemed10.
Not just a footballer. An ambassador.
The @WgtnphoenixFC striker speaks to @JakeRos95.
Because Rufer has a get out of Jail Free Card that keeps on seeing him picked ahead of Devlin. Hopefully last nights game will prove for once and for all that Devlin is the better player. Busier, quicker and scored an awesome goal the other week.
Rufer is the better passer and we had a good run with him starting.

Devlin's made as many bad passes as Rufer last few games, and Rufer is always capable of that defence splitting pass to setup a goal.
Pity he looked pretty average that game he had as a makeshift RB. At the moment of the 3, Fenton is the one I'd rather have on the pine. He was pretty poor last night
I don't think Payne was better than Fenton at RB this season. In fact, he was quite awful and had been since golf cart gate.

I think part of think problem was team balance. Ball and Davila can't play without any pace to work with and Lewis and Payne out wide were slowing us down. Payne was great for slinging crosses to Hooper, but wasn't able to get the same dynamic going with Hemed.
It's an interesting choice. Maybe if Reno's back on the left wing we can have Payne at RB?
