4-1 WU, haven't played a competitive game for years and it will show in this match, new imports haven't had time to gel so not expecting much out of them after the loss, however at least this will be a good hit out until we find our feet. COYN!
Snakes FC GRRRRRRRRivals! lets win this one 4-0, hoping to see this lineup image.png148.68 KB
I like the look of that lineup (assuming everyone is fit); I think it's likely Talay will go for Piscopo over Waine though.
Perhaps, in which case Ball would be upfront with Hoops.
Ball up front with Piscopo in the wide role for me
Somehow though i suspect that Talay will find a way for Rufer to be included. Not mmy call but what i redict. Probably for Pennington.
Has it been confirmed that Hooper did actually come back? I know it was meant to be by the end of December or something, but did it actually happen?? Not read anywhere one way or the other
Missed Melb City FFA Cup game only because hadn't been back in Australia long enough, to satisfy some VIC border Covid requirement? Or was it the Adelaide ALM game. One or the other

Hooper, along with Payne and Surman were the 3 that missed that FFA Cup game due to positive COVID tests.
I'm pleased that he says he's trying to be a better leader and performer on the park looking to improve each week...... but then also a quote from a little green pointy eared man comes to mind "do or do not, there is no try" - which I kind of wish Rufer would live by. I want him to be the best midfielder we have and be a leader, not try to be a better leader.

Yes trying is so overated. To quote that great sage, Homer Simpson -
“You tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is, never try.”

How do you be a better performer without trying to be a better performer? I'm confused.
Will be a tough game… their defence is quite strong with Leo lecrioux and they play mainly down the wings, with pain and Peiras, an area we struggle with (defending down the flanks). It will be tough.. but we can do it
simple formula really, play well enough to keep the ref and VAR out of the game.
This is the same VAR who red carded Rufer for getting fouled, and missed Hemed shoving Elliot of the way to get a free header earlier this season. It's kinda hard to play well enough to avoid that level of incompetence.
Yessss!!! I can blame the officials if we lose regardless of our performance. Love it!! Maaaaaaatt

Hmm given the availabilities then, Rufer will almost certainly start. maybe centre back again?? Could this be his making a la Michal Kopchynski when he moved to centre back in the Rudan year??
wouldnt be adverse to him playing at CB again, means Pennington would get to play in the middle with Lewis. Paulsen Elliot Rufer Payne Sutton Pennington Lewis Ball Piscopo Waine Hooper
I think Mcgarry will start at LB, he seems to have more energy this season than Sutton to me. Maybe Rufer and Pennington will be in midfield with Lewis heading to the AWs.

if Lewis is out for tonights game due to AW's duty then so is Payne which means Rufer and Laws will be at CB, meaning Pennington is at CM.

Would they be leaving Australia already? AW's game is in 7.5 days.. Wood will be playing for Newcastle on Sunday...

Listening to the press conference I doubt Rufer will be playing at CB unfortunately

Think this is probably our strongest XI with who is currently available (would probably have Wootton, Sandoval, or Sail). Instead, Laws is gonna start at CB and Rufer in midfield. Not sure who misses out of Lewis and Pennington - maybe Lewis to give Pennington some more minutes given he'll be playing there while Lewis is on international duty?
Interesting to listen to Rufer on TV 3 Sports. Sadly Alex, giving your best isn't up to standard. You mean well but it is creating a weakness. You've said you've had a couple of bad games this season. I'd like to know which other ones were your good ones - Except your CB game where you really did well.
KG-J as VAR, means no decisions to go our way and poor Alex is probably going to cop yet another bullshark call. KG-J must really dislike the Nix in a bad way and Alex Rufer seems to be his target. It is unfair and unwarranted. I think it is about time we were given a different VAR person and in fact, I'd just like KG-J removed completely from any A League involvement.

there is no try, just do. trying to give your best just sounds like failure talk, I expect my captain to be the first name on the list, or at least in the first 11 names I think of, sadly Rufer is not in that list.
Still don't understand how he's not starting... Offered so much in our last outing and was our best player on the park.
And no I'm not hating on Rufer, but it's chalk and cheese for mine. Hopefully it doesn't matter in the scheme of things but if we don't get things going our way, I'd hope to see him sooner rather than later...

Talay said for this game it's not about putting the best team on the park, it's putting the fittest after everyone had covid.
