Anyone got their membership packs or heard anything about them? They were supposed to start being sent in December. I emailed the club last Monday, but no reply.

I know the club is hurting financially, but we paid a lot of money for not having any games and now not having any swag either.

This year membership is a total write-off for me. I do not expect to get anything out of it. Club should just forget it and give us something extra for next season. To be honest, I always saw it as a donation anyway.

Yep, we're definitely not getting games and i see it as a donation too, but if there's no membership pack then the club should be up front about it.

It's the end of Jan. There's some chance based on experiences overseas, that the Omicron wave could have well peaked in 2 months (end of March), and some restrictions including travel then being eased.

If the Omicron situation is no worse in Australia than NZ at that stage, could the Nix return to Welly and host some games to end the season? Longshot maybe, but not an impossibility. That's provided of course that spectators are allowed back into stadiums at that point.

Admittedly being overseas I'm a bit out of touch with the day to day news on what the Govt maybe planning, but expect it's still very much wait & see at this early stage.

Understand things are tough at the moment but sorry thats not an excuse for not keeping members who have parted with cash informed of whats going on. Only has to be short sorry message. Sadly not an area the club has ever done that well in unless your rubbing the right shoulders.

Looks like any small chance of some home games this season, fully dead & buried now. Personally I don't understand why vaccinated Aussies won't be allowed in sans MIQ until July.

Yet Kiwis living in Aus will be allowed in with no MIQ, 4 months earlier??? Don't really get the Covid/science logic behind that.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/300509477/covid19-nz-border-reopening-to-begin-from-late-february-to-proceed-in-five-stages-stuff-understands

New Zealand citizens in Australia will be able to skip MIQ and enter New Zealand from 11.59pm on Sunday the 27th of February, Stuff understands.

From March 13 New Zealand citizens from the rest of the world are expected to be able to return under similar conditions.

Then in July the country is expected to open up to non-citizens from visa-waiver countries – like Australia, the USA, and UK, before the rest of the world joins them in October.

It says that kiwis will have to self isolate though.

It's about reducing risk, if you have New Zealanders returning home then they usually will have a place to isolate and usually won't be going on a big holliday. Australians coming here usually wont have a place to isolate and usually will want to get out and about.

Okay thanks for the explanation, does make some sense.

So returning Kiwis will have to keep self isolating up to July, when non citizens from visa waiver countries can enter sans self isolation/MIQ?

https://wellingtonphoenix.com/news/a-leagues-announce-february-football-frenzy

It was always going to happen, but to have this announced after knowing they won't be home before seasons end will be a bit of blow.

How many points are we getting out of those 5 games? I'm going with a hopeful 10. Win Macarthur, Brisbane and Sydney, draw Adelaide.

Will need everyone on deck and minimal disruptions with suspensions and injuries, but I think Uffie will be targeting that amount of points at a minimum. That, and we're coming into our favourable middle of the season surge where we can hopefully go on a bit of a spree.

We roll on, COYN!! 🟡⚫ 🦅

It's the same going the other way too.  Only Aussie based or work visa kiwis allowed in there.  Both countries prioritising the millions of nationals they have shafted through Covid border restrictions over other countrie's people who will in the main be tourists, rightly or wrongly.

One of the factors is a legal one. NZers have a right to return to their country. The Bill of Rights Act allows for some restrictions on your rights (ie MIQ) provided it is proportional. With more cases, the legal justification pretty much falls over for NZers. So if you want to slowly open us and assess what impact that is having in your health sector, then doing it by nationality helps in a legal sense.

As for isolation, it was flagged that isolation rules (read: length) is likely to come down at some stage. The PM also said the isolation requires would also help pick up and potential limit the spread of which ever new variants comes along.

We are rock bottom on the table after the Jets win over Roar so coming last/wooden spooners once again, I expect nothing less then to stay there until we can start playing like a team in the 2nd half of matches. Talay needs a cattle prod for some of the players i swear.

Does any body really believe anyone is going to self isolate as they are meant to might last a day or so. People struggle to do the right thing at the best of times. Had somebody visit us at home yesterday after they had been there for an hour they casually said they had a Covid test yesterday as they were a close contact. WTF some people just dont get it.

Yeh- that’s the reason MIQ has lasted this long basically.
Sadly I think the assumption is at that point there’s going to be so many cases one or two more won’t make much difference…though that’s omicron

And also why the MIQ was extended again from seven days to ten, because people weren't doing the three day self isolation at the end.

I remember at the start of the outbreak people were supposed to self isolate, there were those people that came here on holliday and decided to ignore that and go for a helicopter ride, the helicopter pilot took them straight to the police station.

I stand by shafted.  Having quarantine is fine but have to win the lotto to use it is bang out of order.  Across the ditch it was and still is worse in a number of states eg WA locked up forever.

I prefer to think of it in terms of WWII rhetoric- those overseas have been asked to sacrifice to save lives. And so far our figures are truly outstanding. As are those for vaccination rates and boosters. It’s been the right call.

Yes it is comparatively unfair, but sometimes countries ask things like that of their citizens.

It is an uneven sacrifice, even overseas, affecting some very deeply and others much less. And we’re lucky to be in the vid call generation.

If they weren’t doing such a poor job of adding insult to injury with the cost of housing cutting out many from Auckland home ownership, with Welly and Hamilton getting more and more difficult, I’d be pushing the idea more.

But that war generation just got on with it as no one gave a crap what they thought anyway! Well, until in Britain they voted in a Labour government at the end of the war. But such a rebellion in NZ is unlikely as both main parties are responsible for the housing issue and many overseas are doing just fine dollars wise anyway.

Ali Mau’s view in Stuff: “and yes, thousands of disappointed New Zealanders unable to secure a place, the MIQ system has worked without issue for hundreds of thousands of others since 2020.

I'm not discounting the pain experienced in those cases, but there's been more unreported plain sailing in MIQ than there has been pain. “

I actually recall early on, about a month before the first long down. Winston Peters came on the news and said there is a global pandemic, it could last a while, if you want to come home, do it sooner rather than later. I also remember when the Au-Nz travel bubble opened they said that it was at every individuals own risk and they have no grounds to complain should the bubble close. It baffles me why are giving these views so much oxygen and not just focusing on the fact that we have a good economy and 1000s of people lived long enough to get vaccinated.

This year I was sure we'd perform out of the gates. Hooper back, Taylor at CB, games at home, stable coaching staff, apparently someone from South America who was better than Uli lined up, it was looking good...

The mid season surge is related to the teams instability recently, firstly because of coach changes, and then more recently because of Covid.

Some reasonable agruments in there.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/league/warriors/127782936/warriors-ceo-cameron-george-calls-for-sporting-transtasman-travel-corridor

Pre Omicron from memory, Super Rugby, Breakers and Nix were trying to work on a solution with Sport NZ, for TT sport?? Don't think Warriors were involved in those discussions having commited to making Redcliffe home for 2022??

Edit - and see that Domey actually made a similar plea a few days ago.
https://wellingtonphoenix.com/news/phoenix-women-forced-to-play-out-inaugural-season-in-australia?fbclid=IwAR2CmzrxKLX8PWXxy6A6T5zidE0bozYn3n1irZeH3KYYHfAIO7PN8g8GNBQ

The Wellington Phoenix are calling on Government officials to be more proactive and innovative in their decision making to see if it is possible for the men to return home before the end of the 2021/22 Isuzu UTE A-League season, having spent the best part of two years stranded in Australia.

“Professional sport is a business and like many New Zealand businesses that rely on the free transfer of people, goods and services, and capital across our border we need proactive solutions for the re-opening of borders, not the rigid, no flexibility mindset that currently dominates decision making,” Dome said.

“No one in sport is asking for special favours but the trans-Tasman competitions like Super Rugby, the NRL, NBL and A-Leagues stimulate the flow of money in the economy, especially in the hospitality and tourism sectors, which have been hit hard by COVID.”

“We need Government officials to proactively work with the private sector, to think laterally to find solutions and start making proactive decisions that are real world based, so we can return live sport with crowds to the benefit of the broader community.”
