Time to get some of the young boys on?
We HAVE the young boys on..... Lewis, Rufer, Hooper, Sotirio all out injured.
yeah funny hearing the commentators saying roar lost their captain in the buildup and another player ito international duty when we're out seven of our best players and our coach.

36 shots on Goal and Sail keeps them all out...well those that were on Target. And he collected the coach with a goal kick to boot.

Hey also- what a good game from Ben Old! Thought he had a bit more to show us than he’d been doing of late.
Great game from him and cracking finish.
David Ball just himself as ever. Top man.

I totally disagree with the comments about Sandoval. He lost the ball a few times, that's true. But his hard work was key in defending the lead. His corner forced the first goal. In my opinion he was outstanding.

Lads looked absolutely gassed for the last 20, hopefully get a couple of reinforcements back for the run in.
Do we know how long sotirio is out for? Pretty light on attacking depth at the minute

Will miss about 5-6 of the remaining 9 games apparently

Payne and Laws the soonest to return

36 shots not all on goal, I think it was something like 9 or 10 on goal, Sail was busy but not that busy.

He does make a few shockers but I think its because he is trying something rather than being poor. Some of those passes that come off are sublime.

I'm just rewatching the match. Despite too many errors by Pennington today. In my opinion  he's the only real midfielder in the squad. By that I mean he's the only midfielder that takes the ball and distributes it accurately to where it needs to be; on the defensive, he effectively disrupts opponents attacks.

Let's be fair, put the too many errors down to a boggy pitch.

As Pennington gets more and more game time there is every reason to suppose he will continue to improve and minimise those errors.

I have been impressed with Sutton too. He's got skill, pace, a pretty good passing range and tackling ability. He's got good positional sense, he's calm and has a surprisingly big engine for a 20 year old. So far he hasn't let the side down at all in that midfield role.

A word for McGarry too who defended the back post well last night, an area where he has often been found wanting. And when he builds up speed in attacking areas he looks a genuine threat.

Of course, the last two games have been against frankly quite weak opposition so it will be interesting to see how we shape up against the stronger teams coming up.

Definitely weaker opposition, but they've been made to work for it. I've been pleasantly surprised by McGarry's form since he's returned. Seems a bit more solid than I remembered earlier on.  Hopefully this gives the lads the confidence they need during these testing times. Is Payne back this weekend?

I went to bed at 1/2 time, and couldn't believe our luck with going in ahead. Thought we were very lucky but hadn't been overly tested. Good counter attacking football on what looked to be a very heavy pitch.

Sandoval sometimes seems casual in possession, especially when his teammates have fought to retain it playing out from the back. But he was a key creative player who’ll be even better with Piscopo back.

Can we defend against better teams? Not if we give them that many chances I’d say.

In my opinion, it'll be a completely different game against Melbourne than it was against Brisbane. In the cup, Melbourne couldn't break us down. I expect that it'll be the same again. If Piscopo, Sandoval and Ball are playing then we'll score. I have total confidence in another 3 points.

They didn't have Maclaren for that game so that will make a difference. I think it might be a high scoring game as they're defence hasn't been great

And the Nix also had Rufer & Lewis back then, so not sure the Cup result is very relevant now.

Expect Melb City to heavily dominate the possession stats, and Nix to play on the counter again. Though Piscopo starting would be a big boost.

We're struggling to field a full squad, I'm not holding out hope.
