I'd say mental/physical fatigue has a big part. Especially cruel reminder for Sail about how fickle football can be.

Aw well, you get 0 points whether you lose by 1 goal or 10. To be fair, given the circumstances of Covid, no home games, injuries, and not the deepest squad from the get go (not to mention having to play 2 games every week) I certainly did not expect us to be anywhere near the top 6 but we are right in it which is incredible. Put yourself in the shoes of Perth or Brisbane... Overall we are punching way above our weight.

Not pretty tonight but we go again next week ✌🔥

City is just class.  There is a reason there is such a gap between 2nd and the rest.

Ah well.  Hopefully the team learns some lessons and we kill Central Coast on Tuesday 8-0

First half shows we can compete, the squad is just too thin at the moment to see out games. These guys played Wednesday and they'll play again on Tuesday and Ufuk won't be able to rotate because he doesn't have enough players to even make a bench.

Still, they don't get their lucky goal and we get one or two of our chances in the first half and it's a different game.

We can beat the bottom teams with 5 starters missing. Needed a miracle vs City.

The trolls need some mental health support. Either that or to get a life, or simply grow up. Tedious, fellas.

Chalk this one off and go again mid week. Some good learnings tonight, something in the legs for Piscopo and more time and experience for some good youngsters.

Pretty sure we've seen this team has a never say die attitude and can win games that previous Phoenix teams would have crumbled at. But, you can't deny realities. My opinion is that the Nix would have won the league in one of the last couple of seasons without covid.

Its called reality. Too much going against us. But I do agree, once Covid is no longer an issue the owners can't afford to let their top 4 players go and replace them with kids. There needs to be more of an effort to keep talented players and add quality to the squad each year. At times that's been lacking, hence no titles

Bitter result. I thought in the first half we had the chance to win or draw, but we where really crap in the second half. City incredible lucky to score six. It’s not the end but with all the injuries, this will be a tough task to stay in the top 6.

If the Nix are losing home games (this was a 'home game'), next year to City (or anyone) 6-0 then yeah for sure lump in the criticism.

But for the last 3 years the Club have been shafted by Covid. Only Perth this season have been close to being hamstrung like the Phoenix. Not playing at home with fans just sucks. Plus all the difficulties of signing decent visa players. It's like having 1 hand behind your back all season.

But yipe next season, no real excuses. And if Welnix give Uffie close to the budget he wants for visa players, they will give it a good lash. Though Sail will be a big loss, as almost certain he's off overseas.

That 2019/20 season when I think the Nix were lying 3rd before Covid (Hooper, Ball, Taylor, Steinmann & Davila - all quality imports at the time) does sadly have a real sense of the 'what could have been' season.

But this season team still has ability to grind out a result against CCM, Roar or similar. Especially when Payne and then hopefully Piscopo & Laws come back in. City are just a brutal class act.

It's not all doom and gloom. 38 or 39 points should probably be enough to crack the finals. Most of our games are against teams lower than us on the table and there are wins up for grabs, and two of those winnable games are properly at home in front of actual cheering Nix fans.

You can't easily wave away a 6-0 loss but the opportunity is there to use it as motivation for a huge late season effort to get us over the line. I still think we can do it.

5-0 second half loss.

The first half the Nix outplayed City, we’re let down by finishing and conceded an unlucky one.

It would have been another unexpected win- but not an impossible one.  I think the quality of 5/6 of the last halves of football we have played has been good.

Tuesday is go again. Scratch this. We have points in the bank. Go get some more.

Agree martinb just bank it and move on. Sadly the finishing issue has been with us all season and is one area that needs dramatic improvement for next season. We just seem at times unable to turn good attacking moves into genuine chances. Really hoping Talay has marked out some games as must win as despite our goal difference we are still in a good position to finish 3rd or 4th.

What I don't get is that in the first half, we were all over them except scoring. Even the halftime stats supported the Nix. That second half for the first 15, despite them scoring their second, we were still in it with a shout. Then it just fell completely to pieces. Everytime the shot, they scored. The pitch was crap but that's not an offered excuse, because they had to play on it too. The pitch on Wednesday night was crap on the right hand side and way too boggy.

Onwards and upwards. a Blimp of a game.

first half we bossed them and could/should have had at least 1 goal. Old misses an open goal when glover was out of his box, we score that and it's a different ball game. I think we lost our legs in the second half and a team like City doesnt take a step backwards when they have a hint of luck. We go in to the half at 0-0 and again its a different second half.

The scoreline really didn't do us justice. The second half shows when you can bring on quality people like Tilio, Metcalf, and Griffiths with an already quality 11 is always gonna be tough.

And tbf we had some luck go our way against Brisbane. Also City fouled us to stop our counters and didn’t get carded. That would have helped us too.

Missed the game (thankfully) but the YouTube highlights did bring up one important stat about us this season that we MUST RECTIFY if we are to have any chance in the playoffs:

Nix NEVER WIN after CONCEDING FIRST.

I was encouraged by our first half showing, but I think a few people here are sugar coating what a terrible result for us. Defending has been an issue all season, and we can't survive by hoping Sail has a blinder every game. a 6-0 drubbing like that will hurt us mentally.
Going to be a tough game against a good CCM on Tuesday. We looked very tired in that second half and without any quality to rotate and another short turn around I am not at all confident of a result ( But really hope I'm proven wrong).
McGarry worries me in defence. Thought he started poorly and put us under pressure a few times early on with his passing out of defence or giving away soft corners. One of which resulted in there first goal. He looks good going forward though, I think he's more of a wingback then a LB. Fenton was also out of sorts, very reluctant to go forward and his first touch/instinct is always to pass backwards and it kills our go forward. Is it time to give Elliot another run at RB. And bring Payne back into CB to shore things up a bit. Sandaval looks pretty cooked and needs a rest. Piscopo looked pretty disinterested.
We are not the team we were this time last season. But we still have 8 games and a chance to make finals. I only hope that from this low point we can build some momentum over the next weeks get a few back from injury and work towards being more competitive come finals times if we make it.

Thank you for explaining it this way, i think the fact the Sail is our best player this season and keeps us in games is not something we should proud of to be honest, although were good at grinding out results at times, it appears we relay on Sail to keep us in it more often than not
