the club and manager are always under scrutiny,
Only because of the massive over reaction by some though never ceases to amaze me how quick some are to criticize but you rarely see the same haste to praise when things are going well.

Ironically, comments like these are more negative than fans giving criticism. Fans are allowed to feel aggrieved by their team - it's clear that there are genuine decisions for Talay to make and problems to solve

Pointless negativity gets tiring (for example, when some fans blame everything on referee bias or similar), but I don't see much of that at all right now. It's also strange to insinuate the team doesn't get praise when we do well - what?

I feel like it's pretty common for football fans to be pretty bipolar with their opinions if you look at any fan forum or Twitter feeds. When their team is losing its sack the manager, get new players, and then as soon as they're winning it's happy days again. Just the ups and downs with football. If we win the next two games we'll be looking good on the table and it'll be Talay is a genius or if we lose those two games it'll be should we sack Talay.

I don't know if there are really genuine problems for Talay to solve, we dominated the start of the game until the penalty then lost a bit of momentum which we regained in the second half.

We've had mitigating circumstances in most games. It's one of those things where the other teams have had a bit of good luck and we've had a bit of bad luck and momentum suddenly turns against us. It doesn't mean we're doing anything really wrong, and at some point it will just click.

City attempted to intimidate us and it took a while for the ref to deal with it.  Plus it took till the second half for us to stretch the field more and make it harder for them to multi-team us in narrow spaces.

Just a thought but I think these guys need a bit more Siggy, Manny and Vinnie about them. 'Cause if we don't stand up to some of these sides it'll be a frustrating season. To be fair, and in hindsight, City mugging the heck out of us, particularly in that first half, was probably a compliment. We'd made them look silly for 15 mins before they resorted to that and we had the better of them in the second half once we adjusted and the ref started calling more.

Missing Siggy flattening a few Aussies, who mostly deserved it, Manny's willingness to body up and Vinnie's occasional cynical hack. The current team are a better side but imo could do with hardening up a bit against the Aussie sides that start to dish it. I'd say the Black Ferns are tougher than our guys, at the moment, by a long shot. Bring on Portia. 😂

League leaders, won their first 3 games, playing at home and the Nix show up. An interesting game with a frustrating first half. Gifting them two goals. We had 58% of possession. There are positives to see in that performance. No 6-0 canning happened, No heads dropped, The defence did not capitulate. The kept plugging away and got a result. Nearly stealing all 3 points in the last minute. Well done to them.

  • I agree with all of that.
I'd add that we still don't know our best starting 11. In my opinion, our best 11 will be better than this Melbourne City side.

A very interesting analysis - and some quite different views on the contribution of various players than those that seem to be dominant here.
Good to get a neutral (presumably) view  .... makes us sound half decent too, which is nice to see.

its a fair analysis! the tactical fouling that almost all a-league teams engage in needs to be reffed out of the game. if the league eant fans to coem back to the game they need to stop the bully boy thugs of the game attacking the star players. Every marwuee player gets smashed every game and it is hurting the spectacle.

In Gaelic football, a tactical foul gets you a "black card" - you get sent off but you can be replaced. Could this work in our code?

I assume it would take FIFA approval to introduce it, but something needs to be done.

Didnt insinuate at all that they never got any praise read it again i said there isnt the same haste to praise the team as there is to criticize them. Not only here but across other social media as well plenty of criticism not so much praise. LMAO if you think that sort of comment is more negative than some of the stuff posted.  Better keep my negative posts off the forum then i guess.

Zwanda is quality IMO - I don't know if he will be a scoring machine, but he is very strong on/off the ball, moves well and has a good touch. One of the reasons Barbs kept finding room in behind to run into, was because Zwanda's movement was pulling the defence out of shape.

I checked the Polish pages on his stats, and it is clear that he is not famous for being a scoring machine.  But he does have a knack of being able to get into the right places (even if he is not the fastest runner at all), drawing the defence with him.  If the defence leaves him alone and focus on the other guys then that is taking a punt on his low scoring rate.
