Sack The Manager
Solve the problem. Sack the Manager. Yeah Right!!
Ferguson did not deliver his first trophy to Old Trafford until his fifth season in charge. He and Wenger are the proof that stability and consistency is the basis of success at any club. Money is also essential. Curbishley kept Charlton up for his lengthy time there, and West Ham, until recently had only had about 6 managers in their history. In both cases though, lack of funds hindered further progress.
List of sacked managers this season (with my unbiased opinion)
Jose Mourinho
Chelsea
Worst decision in Football this season
Chris Hutchings
Wigan
Lack of time allowed
Sammy Lee
Bolton
Perhaps thrown in at the deep end, or just a stopgap.
Martin Jol
Tottenham
Totally deserved. Millions spent over the years of his reign and nothing achieved. The laughing stock of other clubs.
Steve Bruce
Birmingham
Did he walk or was he pushed. Would have spent better at Spurs. One for the future
Billy Davies
Derby
Second worse decision. He is going to be missed next year when they need to fight to gain promotion again. Look at Watfords success this season as an example.
Lawrie Sanchez
Fulham
Not provided with the magic Nike wand. Neither was Coleman. The club deserves the relegation that awaits them.
Sam Allardyce
Newcastle
What do these guys want? 7 Managers that read like a whos who in 10 years. Sam told them that it would take 3 years to build a team to challenge at the top, and management accepted that. The Northern Monkeys who call themselves fans didnt, and then got shat on by Shearer who was going to be their saviour. Who would want that job.
So, Who is Left
Alex Ferguson
Manchester Utd
There till he dies. And with that line up of stars they wouldnt need to replace him for 5 years
Arsne Wenger
Arsenal
Doing it right. Moving will be his choice
Rafael Benitez
Liverpool
Jurgen Klinsmann waiting to take over. Another draw could be enough.
David Moyes
Everton
A club that gave the manager time and is now reaping the benefits
Martin ONeill
Aston Villa
6th with a squad of 23. Should be given time, but will the owners be prepared to wait? One of the best.
Sven Ericksson
Man City
Built a team quicker than Ricki. Hes safe. They will have him well Thaid up.
Mark Hughes
Blackburn
One of the up and coming Managers who will eventually succumb to offers, but not from Newcastle.
Harry Redknapp
Portsmouth
They love him, he loves them, never going to be world beaters, but arry is 60 and semi retired in this job.
Alan Curbishley
West Ham
His job is to develop a Hammers team capable of challenging for top 4 by the end of next season. Then he will be replaced by someone to take them the next step.
Steve Coppell
Reading
Doing well with limited resources since taking over from Pardew. Money may bring a change at the top.
Gareth Southgate
Middlesbrough
Living just above the relegation zone, but they did that with McClaren too.
Robbie Keane
Sunderland
Chewing gum doesnt make you a Sir Alex. Time will tell how good the man is, but I think Sunderland will persist.
I havent commented on the 8 managers who have been appointed following sackings or where the sackies are likely to finish up. You may wish to comment.
Perhaps Graeme Henry should hold seminars in England for Managers feeling the blade on their throat!!
certainly seems to be a season made for the bookies
unless Newcastle play the Roeder clause again surely Shearer can't be top man as i don't think (but stand to be corrected) he would have his UEFA badge
agree Mark Hughes and O'Niell seem to be excellent managers
to be honest I thought Jol had done well lat season
of them all, it's Sanchez and Billy Davies who i feel most sorry for
Keane interests me, I imagine he'll do well - though his buys have been criticized (I struggle to believe my eyes and ears when he continues to come across as a rational human being after their losses )
West Ham ? - given your aspirations for their next manager ... I'm not so sure anyone less than God would take it on and survive (but all the best to you if they do surprise in the years to come, and /or get a billionaire backer)
once again, a class post imo
Absolutely, he's on his way.
Absolutely, he's on his way.
we'll see, there aren't too many Champion's League winners currently available to replace him

agreed, i thought someone would've been dead or close to it by now...maybe a changed man, or maybe he's smart and unleashes hell on them behind closed doors
i agree Hughes & O'Neill are top quality manangers and the future big players of the division, but i wouldn't write of Coppell...he's had very little $$$ to play with and i think given a decent bank budget he'd be right up there
I seem to remember that he tossed coaching/managing away for a while
I suppose he could work with a right hand man who could lift the mood in the dressing room, for me he's closer in temperament to someone like Wenger than say Fergie or Steve Bruce who seem to have a (more obvious) sense of humour
i agree he's astute but and his players seem as 'loyal' as any but something seems missing in his attitude for him to be a truly great manager (though I'd be happy to be proved wrong)

Good point Tigers. The fans jury is still out on Curbishley. Is he the guy to build a top 4 team or is he a manager who will only produce a mid table team.

nothing wrong with a serious chap who takes things seriously...he doesn't get paid to crack jokes. he seems to be friendly to the fans and as you said the players (except for $teve $idwell) seem loyal. foundations are there thats for sure.
[QUOTE=theprof]The bookies will be crawling all over Keegans reappointment at Newcastle, how long do we give him?
he'll be around come end of season...its about time something good happened to Newcastles poor poor fans
