Should help get prime time scheduling of 2 huge derby games next ALM season. No 7pm on Sunday stuff, though regardless I'm sure the APL would be smart enough to schedule those 2 games well. They will know NZ football has been waiting awhile for this to happen, and the audience will be big. Good news for the ALM has a whole.
Every one realises that the point of a board is strategic leadership right? if they are getting involved in operational decisions like match scheduling then they are doing it wrong.

Sure, they wont be involved in the actual scheduling of the match, but they are involved in things like kick off times across the league to avoid the heat. So why wouldnt the board have some influence over the "big" derby matches and how/when they are scheduled?

because its an operational matter and not the job of a board

Board is the boss of operations, operations do as the board requests. Board wants more $$ from big matches, operations schedules accordingly.
Really involved in kick off times to avoid heat? I cant imagine Rob researching temperature stats for different stadiums across the seasons and going "you know what this is a valuable use of my time" Board is not the boss of operations, board is boss of strategy. CEO is the boss of operations. Not sure how many boards at a high level you have been involved with, but none that I have that operate effectively get into that kind of operational detail. Good board governance focuses on strategic decisions & priorities moving forward. Trusting the CEO that they have hired to manage the operational staff and deliver on the Strategic priorities.
Also not trying to be a dick in the not sure comment I genuinely do not know your background so I am not sure what your experience with BOD is, I can only comment based on my own experience.
Yipe Rob will have a million things to do more important, than sitting in on ALM/ALW 2023/24 match scheduling meetings. That will be Domey's domain. But Domey will report back to Morrison, summarise the draws, and mention anything the Phoenix ain't happy with. I'm sure the dates & times of the 2 big ALM Auckland derby games next season will be front of mind.
What the Board incl Morrison will for sure be discussing even now, is how do they make the launch of the new Canberra & 09 teams as successful as possible. They can't afford more damp squid like Macarthur & Western United. On the other hand the A League became stronger with the introduction of WSW. Be interesting to see what relationship Rob has with Foley & Auckland's CEO, and yes effectively representing all of NZ.
Interesting that Super Rugby has at last got approval to setup it's own Independent body to run their comp. Seems Australia Rugby (ARU) took a long time to agree to let go of control, to an independent organisation. NZ Rugby & NZ Super franchises being keen on the idea for awhile.
I agree that the Board is not going to be involved in scheduling, directly, but I expect they would be involved in seeking an operational policy on player welfare including heat stress and on optimising TV and match attendance revenue for the financial health of the League and clubs. I'd expect the later would include scheduling policy for the big match up games. Plus they would oversee the operational performance to those policies. While not involved in the day to day scheduling I would have thought they would have significant engagement and influence in how well all that was being managed. Would you agree? RoriM6

which is exactly what I was suggesting, not operationally involved but creating the strategy that the ops team have to work within.
I think the conversation has strayed from the original point I was debating which was that the board is strategic leadership not operational leadership so Rob being on the board wont necessarily "Help get prime time scheduling of 2 huge derby games next season".

Well we may differ slightly. I'd think he might have a word, or shall we say a question or two of the operations management, after more than a passing look at what the current policy expects. But sure, what you quoted might be over-egging it a bit. We're getting down to splitting hairs a bit now.
