I understand that desire for "entertaining" high scoring games to draw in the crowds every week, but that just isnt football. If you're relying on cricket scores to draw in the non-footballing fans you'll lose the purists who love the actual challenge of playing away and coming home with a 1-0 win. Defense wins championships, pure and simple.
I don't want to be too negative but we've got an A league with the top side defending in a 5-3-2 and scoring only from penalties.
Not entirely true of the season, as a whole, but you can see why the League is in trouble.
I'll take it, but I'd like to see us back to where we were during our best spell of the season when we were scoring some great goals. Though even then most games were tight.
Your right, attack looks a bit laboured in recent month. They are still not switching to faster to attack, no really good through balls or little one-two around the box. It was better early in the season.

The lack of Old has taken some of the sting and speed out of our counterattacks. Also Pennington has been showing good attacking qualities in the midfield in recent times but he's not there today and is struggling a wee bit trying to get to grips with an unfamiliar role. Slightly worried about him getting a second yellow frankly.
lol at Jets player (Goodwin) not knowing where the hadball line starts, gets hit on his lower arm and points to his upper arm to suggest that would be better.

That was the time when we were a new team because Italiano made us play differently from Ufuk Talay. With time the opposition worked out what we do differently now, so the element of surprise is gone.

Chiefy has said we play defensive on the road, and attack at home. All part of the plan! That said this doesn't feel like a game for the neutral

I don't need cricket scores. So you're creating a bit of a straw man there.
But sure. It is an entertainment game. If we want to see a thriving league it'll need to be better than this. In the meantime I'll settle for winning.
At the moment we're nearly playing an under 15 side and walking it.
it's a way of contolling posession, especially when there is nothing up front. a lot of teams across the globe are using the tactic to very good effect. Posession based footy doesn't necessarily mean attack with the ball all the time, it's about holing onto the ball and making the opposition chase you until they are out of position creating a chance for an attack.
Looking like Louis Fenton in the latter years of his career, couple touches then turns back to the centre back. Frustrating given over the years he's always been better in the attacking third

The whole "need more goals/entertainment thing to bring in crowds" doesnt work. Remember the 24k that turned up at our first game back home after Covid? We thrashed WU 3 nil scoring some great goals. And how many of those turned up a week later? Just saying

Well I'd expect the faithful to be defensive. But if you think this business isn't about entertainment I think you're over doing it a bit. Lots of reasons why we got 24k one week after two seasons affected by Covid and why they realised a week later there were better things to do.
At least with Old on we're seeing a bit of pace and attacking intent.
How greedy is Ben old could have bumped it in to Kostas path ten times over
In fairness I think Old fancies himself against Grimaldi. Done him like dinner just after coming on. Good to see him running at the man, although it probably didn't help having Kosta run into him.
there have been plenty of seasons where entertaining football has been played across the league, yet the so called casual ounter doesnt turn up? noone has figured it out in all honesty, maybe there just isnt the curiosity for the game in Australia/NZ to get the casual punter along? Maybe there never will be, they're alltoo interested in cricket/league/AFL and rugby.
We look quite panicky now. It's the problem with defending deep like we do: no matter how well you defend you can cop a screamer or a lucky deflection, and we are getting plenty of both recently.
