Curse you coochiee, with your logical argument & valid points that I can't disagree with.

Yeah look Foley's stated aim of a 20k-25K downtown purpose built stadium would be great, but sadly it just doesn't fit in with what Auckland needs right now. I'm sure since he first made that comment late last year he's been told that. But yeah doesn't mean it won't happen at some future date - just that he would get alot local opposition to that idea - especially if a larger National Stadium that can go into club mode is built. The 2 venues then in a zero sum game competing for events.

Probably his best hope is that the revamped Eden Park 2.0 option wins the day of the 4 National Stadium options. I think a lot of Aucklanders/Kiwis would see that as a short sighted choice, and yes then throw some support behind Foley's proposed smaller downtown structure.

I thought Foley said a 17.5k stadium is what he wanted to build for AKL FC. And he was putting it out there for what land might be available for that.  A re-vamped NHS might be appealing, unless there is some other land that might come available. Building a national stadium is a whole different thing entirely.

if he's going to pay for it with his own money, who cares!
Just put it someone easily accessible by public transport.

Correct, you should consult stakeholders before undertaking major construction. (But also please build infrastructure, we need it badly)

Love the speedway guys. They don’t seem to talk as much as everyone else, but they get results. You wouldn’t wanna bet against it being more than one year either…

I mean let’s be honest- who wants it more between the test cricket crowd and these guys?

“…will pay for stadium AND for two additional rapid mass transit lines within the Auckland isthmus to be built within 15 years, that are not busways.” Intialled BF and BFFs.

I wonder what the average attendance for speedway is?

I think it would surprise many locals how popular motorsport is in New Zealand. Every time I've been it's looked pretty crowded.

"To be nominated in such Illustrious company and globally iconic stadia highlights Eden Park’s standing as a world leader in the industry"

I can name you 100 stadiums from across the globe that are head and tails above Eden Park, if not 150 +

The only reason they are nominated is because they hosted the WWC.

These "awards" that we have for everything nowaday aren't to be taken too seriously

Maybe Foley can grab some land from Avondale Racecourse for a small stadium?

It passes the "easily accessible by public transport" test, especially after the CRL opens

Wouldn’t leave much else. Therefore not a goer I’d say (what the locals want that is).

Well, SOME locals. The ones who own property and don't want its value tarnished by a bunch of apartments filled with poors nearby . The ones who say "I'm not a NIMBY but..."

The Avondale markets should have space to continue but the racecourse is garbage as a sports field, I know, I've played on it.

Depends which way the wind blows! I know a couple back in the day who told all their friends not to buy Stones tickets as they could hear it all at their house.

Despite Pink Floyd having come through loud and clear when they played there, even with the windows closed, the Stones couldn’t be heard from anywhere, even the edge of the deck with hand cupped to ear…

Burgess article in 2day's Herald on the proposed new Downtown Quay Pk stadium, mostly interview with Rugby boss Mark Robinson, but a few references ... "New A- League franchise Auck FC  turned down the chance to play at Eden Pk" ... and quoting Robinson "It would be a really interesting proposition to bring value to the table with a potential partner in the stadium and think about how we could help each other to create value".
Red herring? Or have NZR and Foley been having a recent chat or two?

The nix's annual revenue is thought to be $9-10M.  Victory most recent annual accounts suggest annual revenue at around the $20M mark.

What makes you think Foley could/would consider fund a stadium build, other than pure fantasy?

Yes but neither VUC nor Nix have talked about building their own purpose built like Billionaire Foley.

Auckland could technically be the richest club in the ALM before even kicking a ball, by some people’s definition

And Robinson could be referring to a partner co tenant. I don’t think the NZR want to pay for a new stadium they want one built for them

Foley’s Bournemouth are apparently building a new 18000 seater stadium ( which seems small to me but their fanbase might not be that big). So maybe just use those plans and make Auckland’s cheaper

Vitality holds less than 12k, so 18k is 50% larger than current.

Yip current ground is one of the smallest decent stadiums in British pro sport, especially at the highest level.

Vitality is a good ground and would be perfect for the Nix or Knights Mk2.
